Re: my dad is going to iraq should i be worried?
I don't think you should worry. Keep in mind that the media has a thing for glamorizing every horrible thing that happens over there. I've talked to a ton of soldiers who returned from Iraq and they were horrified by what the media was doing. It's not as bad over there as you might think. Don't get me wrong, things are still bad, but not on the level CNN and MSNBC want you to think. It's why I watch Fox.
Also, considering that he's an electrical inspector, he's going to be pretty safe. He's not going out on the front lines or anything so he should be fairly well protected.
I don't know how religious you are, but may I reccomend keeping him in your prayers?

No, I wouldn't worry. A friend of mine is one of the "Cat Herders" that helps protect the civillians. He's proud to report many, many successful missions.
The best advice (This coming from more fear of personal loss than Militarian in nayure) is to keep a loose eye on the possible tangent futures. Be ready for the "what ifs". If you prepare for the worst, you will usually get good results. The trick is to keep a close enough eye on things to be ready for anything, without letting it get to you. And if you need to, vent into a pillow. They're soft, so you can punch the stuffing out. They wash, and hold up to a good cry if that's what you need, and sleep is always a good comfort. It relaxes the body.
And talk to people. If it gets to ya, get online with a good group of guys. You'll know them. I;ve found it easier to talk via a keyboard than in person. You get the privacy of a journal, but with the give and take of people that paper and MS word don;t have.
Best of luck to you, family, and Dad.

That would have been funny in another topic, but this is serious.
War is no joking matter. doubledealer25's dad may not be in the front lines, but we still should'nt be trying to make TF references to this.

Another thing to remember is don't freak out if you don't hear from him regularly, because things won't always be routine when he's there. That's what I had to keep in mind when my half-brother was in Iraq. But he came back fine and I'm sure your dad will too. Best of luck!

well it did cheer me up a little and yes this is serious but i find that making a joke out of a serious matter helps make it not so erious

My girlfriend's "uncle" does exactly the same thing.(He's a mechanic, however.) He's done this for about 20 years. He's always come back unscathed.
All of that work takes place on the actual base, or highly secured facility they might be building. Either way, terrorists aren't going to be anywhere near your Dad.
In fact, he'll be safer than the soldiers by far. And he'll get paid a pretty penny to boot.
I mean, there's always risk involved in anything of this nature, but your Dad's chances of survival are so high you can't even see 'em from here.
Seriously bud, he'll be fine. Before you know it, he'll be comin' back and making up for lost time.

anything in life requires risk. But your dad sounds like a pretty cool cat just for going over there. That's awesome. He's a construction guy/contractor going over there to help, he sounds pretty tough, man. Most people don't have the cojones to do something like that. I wouldn't worry, he sounds like a pretty cool guy.
Plus you've got all us weirdos to talk to.
Cheers.

No worries man, he's gonna be just fine. He'll be back before you know it. I know it's hard on you right now, and that it's difficult to imagine, but seriously...he'll be fine and he'll come back.
