So, I purposely held off on buying a Predaking from a third party because I didn't want to sink a load of money into something when there was a possibility that HasTak would make an official one. Now that it's here, I'm not sure I like it. The combined mode is good, the individual robots look pretty good, and the beast modes look like blocks with tiny feet and heads attached. I've always accepted that a figure with three or more forms will typically have one weak mode, but that usually doesn't apply to combiner figures. In that vein, I've been looking at third-party Predakings, and since some of them are more affordable now, I'm trying to find comparisons with the official release. Has anybody seen anything like that yet, or does anyone have any experience with both the official and at least one third-party version?
Another concern I have is that I'd like for Predaking to be closer in size to HasTak Devastator, but that's probably not possible outside of an OS KO. Didn't somebody make one a while ago?
Thanks,
Glarryg

UW/CW Devastator is the same height as the new King isn't he?
You nailed it though, I've got him and your suspicions are whay my in hand opinion ended up being. The beast modes are pretty lacking. But I do think he's a fantastically solid and fun combiner.
Ares might look a lot better (IMO) but he's not as stable and costs more (though BBTS has him on sale). There's also those OS KO Feral Rex's to consider, crazy cheap for what they are.
Just gotta decide if PotpieKing worth it. I'm getting upgrades, and after that he'll be reaching 3P prices already. Not to mention the awful beasts modes won't be fixed by it either.

Re: My Predaking Conundrum
I got the official Feral Rex and I'm happy with it. UT's attempt looks alright combined but it requires add-on parts (like all new wings and hips with upper legs) to combing making it feel kinda cheap. Also it broke when I tried to uncombine it. The leg popped off. The store gave me a new one, but I won't uncombine him again. And things fall off. TFC's looks nice, but it also falls apart as soon as you touch him. He's worse than Toyworld's Dinobot Combiner in terms of stability! I regret getting him.
I don't have the official Predaking and, TBH, I don't feel I need it. I usually get an official version of a 3P TF I have, but this time I think MMC did a great job. And, apparently, the oversize KO is passable, although flawed.
So, if you're looking into 3P Predakings MMC (real or KO) is really the only way to go.

Thanks, guys. I did manage to find pics of the OS Feral Rex, which is apparently as big as CW/UW Devastator, which is apparently as big as POTP Predaking. Feral Rex definitely looks less blocky than HasTak's Predaking, which is starting to become a factor in my decision. I mean, vehicle robots looking like squares is one thing, but animal robots looking like squares seems a little off.

The one down side I see with my Feral Rex is that the legs are so bulky, there can be some issues posing him. He has major Popeye calves.
But, overall, I love my Rex. The animal and bot modes are very nice! He has a great sword. I'll soon be shipping my PotPie King, so will have a better opinion on the comparison in a bit...

(I answer to Ag or Ags. Agamemnon is too long to type. Plus, there is something elemental about calling me Ag.
