Alright, so I haven’t done much in the way of customizing AT ALL in the last 3.5 years, for a couple of reasons: First, TF Figures are HARD to customize and it just got to be exhausting. Second, Titans Return probably had some of the best figures of the last decade since Generations/RTS started, that for the most part I just didn’t have any inclination to change who/what/how they were.

Third, I kinda fell of off of the Transformers (Astro)Train due to a combination of Skids dying in MTMTE, Power of the Primes not really doing anything for me, and having been promoted at work, so I didn’t have the free time I used to be involved in the boards here. Only recently have I gotten back into Transformers by way of the MP line, but that’s another story.

Well, during my break from TF, I discovered the joy that is Marvel Legends. Lo and Behold, they are SO SO SO much easier to disassemble and repaint then TFs ever have been or ever will be. And the ease of doing so has really inspired me in a few cases. And here’s where it stops being boring.

I loved X-23 in the Logan film, she kicked as much ass or more as Hugh Jackman had for the nearly 20 span he held the mantle of Wolverine. And so when I saw a figure of her, I just had To get her.

Now the base figure is good; the X-Force uniform is aesthetically pleasing and the articulation is phenomenal as is to be expected with ML. However, my particular figure had a mangled left elbow for whatever reason (I had ordered it online as ML figures are significantly less expensive on Amazon 75% of the time), and while it didn’t hinder any movement, it got me thinking.

I liked the look of the punk rock/biker boots so much that I found myself wishing the rest of the figure had more of the beautiful detail/texture/design work that Hasbro is capable. So I popped off the arms of Gamora from GotG V2, painted the green bits tan to match Laura, and put them and the jacket onto X-23. Voila, a unique X-23 figure that fits even better into my mostly ‘90s era X-men.

It’s so simple yet effective that this is still one of my favorite ML figures, even after I now 20+ of them.

That's really nice! Looks almost "out of box" as if that's how it was always meant to be. Really good paintwork.

That really means a lot, Black Hat! Thank you! But just to be clear, the only parts I actually painted were the skin tone bits on the forearms, which used to be green. The rest of the figure is 100% as it was.

They came from the Mantis BAF Series GotG V2 Gamora, which in it’s own right is also an awesome figure; the likeness to Zoe Saldana is spot on! I just happened to have two of them.
