Does Hasbro have plans to release a new updated G1 Optimus Prime mold in the Generations line? It seems possible based on a piece of art from the latest issue of Toy Hobby Retailer magazine. The Australian fansite Ozformers has shared an image from the magazine's Hasbro 90 years collage that features a redesigned G1 Optimus Prime holding what appears to be a Targetmaster type weapon with a Generations label. The weapon has a blue cab and windshield section, so it definitely transformers into something. Take it with the normal grain of salt, we should know more about the 2013 Generations lineup after next month's Toy Fair. Check out the images mirrored below.

was hopin on something of the sort as i haven't got a voyager leader for my classics (missed out on the release and now they're a bit too exp)

Doesn't look anything like G1 to me. Bayformer? Yes. Transformers Prime? Yes. G1? No.

Whats that? The head? Nah, I don't count 5% of its anatomy as making it G1. Not trying to be trollish with my observation, just hugely disappointed.

i will still probably get this prime if it is a toy just cuz prime

If this is the size of TW Hegemon, I would be extremely interested.

I'm not familiar with the IDW comics. If it has some g1 nuances I think this would be really a cool toy, however it seems IDW prime doesn't have smokestacks on his arms like G1, which is kind of a bummer for me?

It looks like the design of Optimus from the current ongoing IDW comics. I wouldn't mind having a figure of that design, I rather like it. Now just give us a figure of that series' design of Megatron to go with it. It IS an awesome Megatron.

It looks like the prime from classics line that came in a two box with the megaton tank. That tiny prime that has a knob on the back for his spinning action.

Yeah. It's got those distinctive tapered arms and the split windshield of Prime prime. Does it mean a new mold is planned though? Or could it be a GDO style new-head/repaint job?

Something tells me that this guy won't have a trailer, and roller is included as a substitute, a little like Hasbros MP Rodimus, giving us OffShoot instead of the trailer. Better be a figure though...

I'm sure it'll be a deluxe or voyager, so there's no "instead of a trailer," since there wouldn't have been a trailer with it to begin with. If you had said "Targetmaster Minicon Roller instead of a regular gun or kibble-gun," you'd have been totally right though! :grin:

I'm gonna stick to my original assumption that its that tiny classic prime with the megaton. I think I have it laying somewhere on the floor, next to to junk transformers pile. That's how poor that mode is. Too small to display it anywhere

The robot mode is really nice, even if it's a bit derpy in altmode. :lol:

I wouldn't mind having it myself, he's the perfect size for a computer desk! I could easily live with a remold of that.

I don't mind the mode, but the swivel action on the waist makes it extremely difficult to display in any pose. Sorry, I'm kind of biased regarding size. Like leader and supreme class transformer.

I thought exactly the same thing, but that's cool finally we got more IDW Comic Toys, maybe. I wouldn't mind also for the IDW G1 based Megatron or Megatron from Tarn and all the other great IDW Transformers characters.

Yeah, that's my issue too with IDW Prime. I don't mind the change in design, but the smokestack is his signature character identification. Just like UM with his long shoulder post and missile at the side, or Red Alert/Sideswipe with shoulder rocket missile, etc. Despite this, I thought it's a good approach by Hasbro. If I have the space, I would certainly support the line.
