I'm going to guess the hand is a separate piece from the figure. If you look at the CAD drawing in the background of of the Exgraver figure, you can see the hand is a separate piece.

There are a few threads of different stages of these floating about. That pic is from one (well, not originally, but you know what I mean). Unfortunately, TFC's site (where these all come from) requires a log-in and so they only spill out periodically.
