I guess Im asking this, should I keep it and repaint it to look like the original, or should I just dump it on ebay?

There were 3 Lio Convoys in the Beast Wars II series... The standard Red, White and Blue Conovy, Flash Convoy (White Lion with Gold Paint and Glitter) and Black Convoy (Black Lion with black glitter)...

True, but as far as I know there is only one Lio Convoy knockoff that appears in Big Lots -- the yellow lion with a glittery mane and grey robot parts.

But First Gen might simply have meant in terms of size when he/she wrote "the Japanese one", referring to the larger Beast Wars Neo figures rather than the smaller classics Leo Prime. The knockoff is about 8" tall.

Oh, I wants real bad. Could use those for repaints. And I like how they gave Starscream's jet mode a quasi G1 color scheme. Gotta get 'em.

Just grabbed me the oversized WSTF Prowl and Red Alert. Gonna repaint Red Alert into Tigertracks.

dunno if this is old news, but Big Lots has a HUGE lot on KO.

All the constructicons, combaticons, insecticons, and arialbots, but no center pieces(onslught, etc.) and no combiner peices(feet, chest etc.)

There are also tons of other TF junk too.

Oh yeah, we're all familiar with Big Lots -- I just came back from there today with another $25 worth of knockoffs, as a matter of fact. Mine doesn't have any Combaticons, though, and the Insecticons -- which I finally picked up the last of today! -- aren't actual TF knockoffs. I have no idea what they originally came from (if anyone knows, please enlighten us...), but I've heard the name Insect2Sides bandied about.

This guy makes me way happier than the Big Lots bootlegs, though...

I think those insect robots are knockoffs of old 1980s Convertors. I had some back in the day.

I've think I've seen this KO's before. Do you have the Sludge KO that have wings and it's a dark color with gold trimming?

I've seen pics of it online, but alas I do not have that one. I'd kill to get my hands on it, though... even though I'd probably rather have a knockoff that looks more like the regular G1 Sludge (or even a legit Sludge). I think the wings look kinda wrong on him.

Now if they'd made a Slag or a Snarl with wings... :P

Indeed, but that's not the only thing (he transforms into a Mechagodzilla sort of deal)! The head almost looks like Perceptor's.

I spotted all four of those at Walgreen's yesterday on the top shelves throughout the store. They were priced at $5.99 each or $11.99 for 3. They had similar sets a couple of years ago, but no Bruticus. Also, the Constructicon set this year is in the green and purple color scheme as opposed to black and yellow or multicolored. I thought the quality of Defensor looked to be cheaper than before. Still, though... they are nice pieces to put on display if you never owned the originals or get a kick out of the variations.

Got this bootleg Prowl months ago.

If you're wondering, this is an upsized WST Prowl. So basically, I have the biggest WST Prowl. :D :D :D

Image

Super Robot Warriors, made in China, definitely no manufacturer indicated.

I was actually looking for bootleg robot masters Mirage (which just disappeared from the pegs last month before i could snatch a few), but this police car just grabbed my attention! Checked the pegs, and this is the last one. Lucky?

ALT MODE

Image

Here's Prowl. Faithful colors, except for the missing Autobot insignia.

There are some paint mishaps on the front fenders, and the rear lights are just painted on (see robot mode's feet).

The doors open, but there's no interior. Although, I think the door opens for the benefit of the robot mode, but hey, thank God for small blessings, right?

ROBOT MODE

Image

Image

Good robot mode, I'd say. The face lacks detail, though. A light wash would have brough out Prowl's facial features. The arms are too loose, and I don't know how to adjust them. Leave 'em alone, and they swing inwards, making Prowl do a hands-on-waist pose.

Here's the best pose I could do.

Image

Let the arms swing out too much and Prowl looks gay.

ROBOT OR CAR MODE

Not much detail in Robot mode, not much detail in car mode. Looks good in both modes, though, so it's a tie. Tie, meaning either Robot or Car mode works for displays. Don't display it in mid-transformation, heheh.

SUMMARY

Pros
- Looks good. No, really, this is a good bootleg!

Cons
- Loose arms
- Needs more details
- Plastic seems to be a bit brittle

BOOTLEG PROWL AND ALTERNATORS SILVERSTREAK TRANSFORMATION COMPARISON!!!!

Yes, Prowl and Bluestreak are repaints of each other, right? So, I was wondering how different or similar are their transformations now that one is a Subaru, and the other is a Datsun...

Image

Check this out...

Image

See that? The front fenders both fold outwards for the arms!

More pics from vehicle to robot mode!

Form the feet from the rear part of the car. Check out the tail lights, and the rear window.
Image

Here, we twist the waist.
Image

Arms fold out under the hood. Check out the front doors. Silverstreak's torso was formed from folding the floor/chassis. Prowl, obviously, does not have this.
Image
Image

Finally, pull down the hood, put up the head...

Love the review, mechajol -- great comparison pics! I hope you didn't pay too much for that upsized WST Prowl, though, seeing as how you can find him at Big Lots for $2.50 these days (along with blue and red versions of WST Red Alert).

Speaking of Big Lots knockoffs, I picked up the Terrorsaur/Lazorbeak BW one with intent to repaint him into Swoop and have been fooling with him tonight. Man, this dude is loose! It's almost impossible for him to stand under his own weight, so I've got him in the one-knee pose (using the wings as additional supports) for now. Hopefully the paint job will tighten his joints up a bit, though.

Speaking of tightening joints, I used clear nail polish on my Prowl for the job. Didn't help as much for the side to side motion, but it keeps them from swinging back so he looks like his arms are broken at the shoulders. Doesn't look like yours suffers from that problem, though.

I'd be interested in getting a oversive WST Prowl but I'm in the United Kingdom and no-one offers them up on ebay.

If anyone were to pick a few up and offer them up on ebay (via paypal and quoting shipping to UK) I'm very sure I wouldn't be the only one to buy. (Just see the Official Disgruntled Brits thread - Waaaghlord & Robo-Chugster will probably second this post any moment)

In fact if anyone was interested in making a few extra dollars via ebay there's definately a market for getting Big Lots and similar KOs into the UK as most KOs we see are from China and the shipping equates to $20.00 and upwards.
Anyone offering up decent KOs on ebay with sensible international shipping rates will also make a lot of friends in the UK.

Alternatively if anyone was wanting to sort out a bulk shipment to save on the international postage I'm pretty sure that the ODB crew would be able to sort out UK distribution among ourselves and keep costs down. So, anyone want to raid Big lots on behalf of your Brit cousins?

i'm asking because there are molds that even have the takara/hasbro stamp. That so called reissue of rumble/ravage or ratbat/frenzy is a ko.I have one of those :BANG_HEAD:
The rubsign is below standard quality of course and the joints are very loose. They don't slide into Soundwave, you need to force them a bit to fit in.
