Re: MP Prowl & Streak - Official Images
of EITHER one... Hopefully we get the entire LINE over here. Picking and choosing with these is unacceptable, given what a perfect version of the original G1 lineup we're seeing out of them. I've had ZERO complaints from these cars, and very few about Soundwave, the jets, and prime.
Okay. My ONE huge complaint with the USA version of Prime is that I never saw one. Needz better distributions, plz.

That's because they're always produced in low numbers in the US and sold as store exclusives. Hasbro still doesn't believe there's a viable market for these 'adult collectibles' at mass retail.
Between that and how they invariably screw up the colors, I'm sticking with Takara regardless of cost.

How big do the Masterpiece figures (Specifically, the car-formers and the jet-formers) look next to, say, a standard Deluxe? As someone with very little shelf-space who doesn't segregate his figures by continuity (I'm still 8 years old at heart, despite being twice that) it would kinda be cool if they were well scaled with "regular" Transformers.

Re: MP Prowl & Streak - Official Images
I understand this, but being through Toys R Us, a guy should be able to eventually find one... and/or get it on Ebay without the market drying up. I heard of stores getting a couple, then never again. Seeing them at $250-300 on eBay, they have to think there's a LITTLE bit more market than what they released. That's pitiful. Sheesh, put some up online or something.

The Seeker mold is about the same size as a Leader class figure, where Sideswipe (and most likely these guys) are about the same size as a Voyager class figure.

Ah, OK. Thanks!
I reckon that the Alternators figures would look pretty good scale-wise next to the Masterpieces. I have Silverstreak and Windcharger, and seeing as they're roughly Voyager sized, from what you say they should be the perfect scale (which is good, as I love the Alternators line, sparse as it was).

Yeah, I wouldn't say these guys scale perfectly with any other line. They're an odd size... slightly large for normal line... and small for Alternators.
That said, I kinda love the size. It feels like the originals did in my grubby little child hands. It's kind of in scale with you being a grown up, which I like.

Re: MP Prowl & Streak - Official Images
found this pic via google search. If it's bad form to link it, somebody let me know.
As mentioned, the size is definitely small for Alternators. Just larger than Classics in vehicle mode, though CLOSE to alternator height in robot mode. Scroll through the guy's pics below for that comparison.
The guy's Flikr gallery is below:

Thanks, that's mighty helpful!
Hmm...they are an odd scale. I think they would have to have their own standalone display-they just don't fit in with the other figures. They look OK with Alternators in Robot Mode, but silly in Vehicle Mode.
Anyway, if I do start a Masterpiece collection, I'll probably pick up Prowl, and maybe Bluestreak later. I love'em both, but Prowl is just a little bit cooler.

Glad I could help! Yeah, these are too amazing not to pick up. If anything, I'd be shooting for season 1 autobots at least. (ie. Sideswipe, Prowl, Bluestreak, Prime)
Mind you, I just opened the cassettes. They're ahhhh-freakin'-mazing. Tiny, but like... perfect. When that whole set comes to the USA, and at the great deal it's rumored to be sold, I'd highly recommend that.

And they're not even the right colours for any of the 3 of the Datsun trio either. The warheads might be the right colours, but the launchers should be the same colour as the thighs and waist.

Smokescreen might get his colored right, or his own custom-made ones integrated into his toy remolded from the show cannons and colored right that way.

I can actually see Dr Wu capitalising on Takara's omission here.

As much as I want these and as great as they look, MP-10 has made me think waiting for a Hasbro release might be a worthwhile gamble. I preferred the Hasbro Optimus colors, especially the eyes, and the pics we have seen of the mythical MP Soundwave also make me lean Hasbro. I do dislike how Hasbro releases always turn into a nightmarish debacle with TRU, but the price for these is pretty steep given they are just over Generations deluxe size. That solid red crest on Bluestreak also turns me away from these, the shots we had earlier of him his head looked much better and more accurate. If my funds weren't so tight and we weren't getting so many great Generations releases this year, along with Metroplex and the Hasbro MP Soundwave at some point(hopefully
), I wouldn't care so much to grab these, but being what it is I think waiting for a domestic release may be the path I take.

As has been discussed in earlier threads about MP Sideswipe, Hasbro might have trouble getting the rights to licensed car designs. MP-10 Optimus and Soundwave had no problem getting a Hasbro release because of their non-patented alt modes (generic snub-nose truck and micro-cassette player).
Of course, there's the question of whether the rights Takara Tomy bought to make MP Sideswipe and Prowl/Bluestreak can be transferred to Hasbro, and/or if Hasbro is willing to buy the rights separately.

Point well taken. I was aware of issues with Lamborghini, and I believe I also read Porsche, not wishing to be associated with violence and weapons and so no longer wishing to issue rights to their product likenesses. However I had thought that Nissan, who own the rights to the Datsun 280z likeness, were being more reasonable about this though I admit I based that opinion solely on how much they have participated with the Alternity line. Sort of a shame everything has become so overly complicated in today's world that getting a toy car that turns into a robot sold in different countries becomes a legal quagmire, but guess you just have to roll with it

The very first release of MP Starscream (by Takara, ironically enough) begs to differ.
Seriously though, all the MP releases, whether they've been Hasbro or Takara, have been faithful to the character they are homaging. What MP release wasn't accurate to their characters? The only differences between Hasbro and Takara releases are subtle deco differences (for example, Hasbro's MP10 was colored more like the original cartoon, whereas the Takara release emulates the original toy).

Takara is more accurate because they are colored like the g1 toys and what comes first, the toy or the cartoon? Answer: the toy.
