Even though the new Devastator looks awesome, he has flaws. A lot.
To name a few;
- Head slightly too small, and has no glasses.
- "Knees" are too high.
- The constructicons, some elbows look terrible.
- Long Haul is too bulky. They could easily create a piece to connect LH with Scrapper and Mixmaster. No worries there.
- Two purple colors?

But, there is one reason why I simply cannot buy this thing...is...
Mixmaster.

Vehicle mode:
- The cement barrel and the pipes are reversed?
- The front of the truck is not a front of a truck.
- The back is what? Back windows?

Robot mode:
- The mixer becomes a tail?
- Every head of the Constructicons is awesome in detail, but Mix has no guns on top of his head?

Well at least it saves me a lot of money.

We keep telling them, Mixmaster is a front-discharge cement truck now. Yes, they do exist:

The thing that becomes the foot is the engine: the painted areas are supposed to be the vents.

Mixmaster does retain the guns over his head, they're just unpainted.

Personally, I'm going to go with Takara's Devastator. There's more articulation (hooray) and better paint apps.

There's also a couple 3rd party kits coming out that would correct many of your issues.

Completely understand where you're coming from. But luckily Perfect Effect is coming out with a couple of sets to help.

Some of us are well aware of that but find it ironic that people that constantly talk about G1 accuracy are okay with that.

I don't care personally, I went 3rd party for my Devastator. But it is amusing watching people white knight the Hasbro/Takara Devastator's shortcomings when any other figure gets a full G1 analysis and browbeating.

You know what, the thing that I like the best about that upgrade set is the new crane for Hook. I loved that crane boom sticking out over the back as a child, and I still like it, as dumb as it really is. I like the Mixmaster front end as well, even though I don't have a problem with the new Mixmaster alt mode.

I have to disagree. They're charging a full Voyager price point for each one of these guys, we're not even getting a discount for buying them as a set. A Voyager class figure not having proper elbows in this day and age is not acceptable in mine and many other's opinions. Not to mention Takara and Perfect Effect are showing us these figures were fully capable of having them. Any other Voyager coming out with these flaws would get slammed, they're being overlooked because fans are frothing at the mouth for a decent official modern Devy. To me the only way the these flaws can be overlooked is if you're viewing this set from a "Devastator" point of view. However, that's not what everyone wants. I would prefer to view them from a "Constructicons" point of view, I want good Constructicons who additionally have the ability to combine. That's why I will be getting the Takara version plus the Perfect Effect kit.

If I have the money I will get the Takara version and Perfect Effect PC-06 set, and might even go for PC-07 to get rid of some of the hollow forearms. It wont make Mixmaster perfect, but he will be damn close.

Which I do, not that I consider them "flaws" anyway. In fact I feel the individual bots are far too big. (But that's just me)

I get people want more, and I'm okay with that. I just think people NOT buying him at all, with or without upgrades, well ... they're really missing out on what is a great figure.

To the OP, a couple of your complaints are only with the SDCC version.
Retail version has no chrome, so only one purple colour, AND Dev's head has a visor, not individual eyes.

Thanks for your response, I was wrong about his head. But there are trucks, machines that are too ugly and worthy of becoming a Transformer and this is one of them. I still consider this thing to be a big mistake to use as a Constructicon, or even a new Transformer.

The nerdrage over Mixmaster is truly puzzling. Why is it THAT important for the cement mixer to of a specific type? Wasn't the idea behind Classics, and therefore it's spiritual successors in Universe 2008, Generations, and all of its subsequent sublines, to do G1 characters with MODERN alt modes. I'm sorry for those folks who find modern cement mixers too ugly to exist, especially in their toy hobby.

As has been said (and answered) in the main devy thread. Their problem is that only mixmaster (appears) has been changed.

Jay a lot of the people I see being fine with the new mixmaster here, I've never seen complain about other g1 accuracies.

As for me personally, if I wasn't broke, I would snap devy up and wouldn't worry about any upgrade kits, I'm just very laid back like that

Hey guys, I think Deathastator2212 is talking about the SDCC version. He mentiones 2 purple colours and the head not having glasses. That's just with the SDCC.

Deathastator2212, go with the Takara version. They have their own head with the glasses which can be switched on and off, it has all the elbows you would need plus some reworked knees for some too. And the purple is great everywhere, he even has purple on his hands, which neither of the other versions have. They even added paint apps to Mixmaster's back so that he can be used anyway you want. I agree with a lot of the original post's complaints, and that goes double for this stupid front discharge Mixmaster, but if I could afford it I would still be getting it. I'd probably import the Takara one, though.
