I have a pretty significant G1 Collection in which I put the surpassers in. Those are (in my opinion) the Classic Seekers, and TFU 2.0 Cyclonus and Brawn. There are also others which come pretty close to surpassing including TFU 2.0 Silverbolt, Dreadwind, and Classics Overkill.
To me most of the TFU 2.0 Deluxe line fail simply because of lack of duability. I have to worry about them breaking because of the plastic. I don't have to worry about this with G1s.
And then there are the major FAILS: TFU 2.0 Galvatron, and Hot Shot!
One that surpassed the original?

Re: One that surpassed the original?
I don't understand the "durability" argument when it comes to G1.
I destroyed Ultra Magnus in my childhood. Power Master Prime? The trailer's leg was broken off. Yeah, not the figure itself, the TRAILER. Perceptor? His arm snapped off. And this was all "battle damage" which I ignored and fixed with duct tape or Super Glue. I played the Hell outta those guys.
Modern toys are better. Becayser those arms? More often than not they are MADE to snap off instead of break. That's not a flaw, it's a feature.
More often than not, I prefer modern TFs over G1 TFs toy-wise. Ones that I still like would include the Dinobots. Still.
However, I'd say MP Grimlock beat out his G1 counterpart. Finally. Classics and Energon couldn't do it. Animated almost did it. But MP finally saw a Grimlock that beat out G1. A complete G1 Grimlock now is on par price-wise (and soom more because of the domestic release) and MP Grimlock simply beats it in every way.
Going back to G1, Optimus Prime was beaten by Powermaster Prime. Once I had it, I thought that was the way OP SHOULD have been made from the start (I had Magnus to compare it with). Primes have just been getting better, though, so this is rather easy.
