Opinion: Best Combiner?
Opinion: Best Combiner?

I'm new here. I'm mostly a fan of looking at pictures and reviews of transformers toys. Also a fan of serveral shows (mostly TF Prime).
There is a question I want to ask since the seibertron gallery is pretty vast.
What is the best Combiner in your opinion?
Here is what I mean by best:
1) The combined figure has good proportions and good mobility, it should be modern
2) Each individual part also has a good transformation with nice robot modes and vehicle modes.
I'm not interested in animal or beast transformers. I prefer "the good guys" over the bad.
This is an opinion because I imagine the people here have a lot better knowledge base to share a link and different people will have different taste. To give an example this is one of the best that I've seen.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/transformers-co ... rmvSB=true
At least the combined mech looks really well proportioned!! (Althought I have no idea what the "the perfect effect upgrade kid (white version)" is, and It might have somehting to do with that)
I'll be waiting for your opinions!!

For the parameters of a good guy and going with what would be the best one proportionally... your best bet is probably Superion, Computron or Sky Reign from the Hasbro CW line. If you're not afraid of importing exclusive Japanese products though, your options open up a little.

He is also who I would have recomended as a retail release on this side of the world. However, I see the original poster wanted a good guy, so I would reffer him to Computron.
Whats great about Computron, aside from answering every wuality the OP is looking for, is that he is still selling for his retail price, so no markups

Though of course some (like Computron) are boxset-exclusive, so you can't buy them individually like most others.

Thanks!!!

Yeah, because its not a great torso, and because Combiner Wars Optimus Prime is by far the most expensive solo figure out of combiner wars. he easily sells for double his initial retail price out of the box
Plus its not a combiner from G1.

Because Prime / Motormaster is one of the weakest molds.
Proportions are way off, torso mode is not as good as others. Leg ratchets make posing quite difficult.

It doesnt look great in its normal configuration but a slight change makes him look pretty good:

Still not as good as the silverbolt/cyclonus/ torso though.

I love cars, so I have a soft spot for the individual limbs of Menasor, but as a combiner, it's def my least fav for the reasons others have mentioned. Pretty much why I keep my CW Optimus and other autobots un-combined.

I have five Combiner Wars/Unite Warriors combiners, all Autobots, and I think they're all fantastic. Even Ultra Prime, who I see other people are dissing. Four of them are in this pic:

Meanwhile, Computron hangs out on a different shelf, but mine is disassembled at the moment:

I did pick up Perfect Effect hands and feet for the three actual G1 combiners. I left Ultra Prime and Sky Reign with their stock hands and feet. Especially necessary for Ultra Prime, since Sunstreaker's hand/foot gun integrates into his other modes in a somewhat necessary way:

(The Combiner Wars one is on the right in the above photos.)
I love all of them, but I think my favorite has to be Computron. Mine is the Unite Warriors version. The Hasbro one doesn't look bad, but the Takara one (in my opinion, at least) just blows it away. I know someone posted pics of the Hasbro earlier in the thread... Give me a moment to hit up Google Image Search, see if I can find a comparison...
Here they both are in their combined mode, with Hasbro on the left and Takara on the right. Hasbro's Computron came with specialized hands and feet, while the Takara one pictured here has the aforementioned Perfect Effect hands and feet, as I would have on mine:

But, of course, your mileage may vary. I like the Takara one better. You may like the Hasbro one better, and if you do, more power to you! Or, if you're on more of a budget, the Hasbro one can also be quite a sufficient option.
The Perfect Effect hands and feet can be kind of cool, if you're looking for alternate options. They add articulation to the fingers and the ankles, and like the stock hands and feet with most Combiner Wars figures, they do turn into guns:

Here's my Aerialbots armed up with them:

Although I will admit that they sometimes don't always work super great as guns for the Deluxe Class figures... but if you have a Titan Class figure handy... Well, some cross-figure accessorizing can do wonders:

Especially nice in the case of Fort Max with Computron's guns... The color works great with Max, and you can give him G1-esque hip cannons!

Anyway, I've rambled on enough, and even maybe gone off topic a bit. So I shall end things here. Hope I have been of at least marginal interest!

Also, if the original poster is going third party and fans care to talk more of that, the discussion should be taken to the third party forum, where more users will be able to interact regarding these toys.

If you're going for FoC Bruticus without upgrades or heavily tinting your glasses with roses... you are not in for a fun time.

FOC Bruticus is obviously enough the worst, but I'd say Sky Reign is almost as bad, mainly because Sky Lynx stinks as a torso, super hollow and the torso mode shoulders are 100 TIMES WORSE THEN MENASORS. Yea I hate the Sky Reign torso that much

Oh I've heard mostly how it falls apart if you try the Spinny blade weapon thing and doesn't want to stand depending on your configuration. Honestly I kind of want the set just for the Combaticons itself and keep them more or less separated. I liked their portrayal in FoC. Plus playing as Vortex and Swindle was kind of fun.
Though I might just say to heck with it and just go for CW Bruticus and call it a day.

Sky Reign is no where near as bad as FOC Bruticus in my opinion. Ok, the shoulders and hips are a bit loose but he's not overly hollow and he's far better proportioned. Plus he looks great and he's Sky Lynx, how can you not love Sky Lynx?

Sky Lynx was the biggest let down of Combiner Wars for me. He deserved a Leader Class figure that brought out all his own unique combining features and what we got was a small, hollow, flimsy and floppy abomination. I expect much better from Sky Lynx.
