Congrats to the brave forces members, who took part in the mission. Also to the intel operators and mission planners who coordinated this action. While a long time coming, this is news many have waited for, and hopefully a blow against the extremists still working for him or in his name.

Sadly the legacy's of his actions have altered the lives of too many, and his death will not change or revoke some of the more fanatical reactions we have seen in the past 10 years.

It's about time.

Here's the problem...

Someone else will just rise up in his place, or a new terrorist organization will spring forth, or some other fear along those lines.

We're not safe, not at all. In fact, I'd say we're a bit worse off, and I hope we've prepared for it.

There are plenty of crazy zealots willing to die for a cause, and the next kook could be even worse.

It's a time for celebration because we made him pay for his horrific crime, but it's definitely not a time to kick back and relax. We're far from free and safe.

It is good that he is dead. A shame that ex-palestinian soldiers were hiding him though. To think that our men and women protect them and this is how they repay it. Its a good day in the history of the United States. I remember when Saddam Hussein was captured. I was really young, but I remember it fairly clearly.

Of course a country and people must remain vigilant, but no country, person, or people can walk around for all their life looking over their shoulder every 2 steps.

I couldn't believe it when I first heard it. I still remember EVERYTHING I did on September 11th, 2001. Everything.

I do agree with Counterpunch, though. The people of the United States (or any Western country, really) cannot walk around being skittish about every Muslim idiot who condemns the West. It is good to be vigilant, but that's why there are agencies such as the CIA. To determine the real threats from the blowhards. We don't want to end up like Israel.

And no one said the next person would be Muslim. You said it, not me. I used no labels, I said someone, meaning anyone, will rise up and take his place.

Do we need to live in a fearmonger state? No. Do we need to be "ignorance is bliss"? No. We need to keep an eye, and we can do it without going overboard.

Yay for muslim-based fear. Fun fact: I live in the Netherlands. Since 9-11 we (as a country) have had 3 big terrorist acts. 2 of them commited by dutch people. Very much white people.

If we wish to be the global arbieters we claim to be, we must take the higher moral ground - we cannot condem others actions and retort in kind, it will only act as an example to those that are against our society to our hypocrisy.
