Weapon: Flamethrower Cannons

I recently got the upgrade kits for the Dinobots, and I've noticed the original screws on Grimlock (that you have to take off) are super soft (easily damaged) and on too tight to remove.

Can anyone else who's successfully used the upgrade kit tell me how they got around this?
