Though, this is technically off topic since Gokaiger has currently next-to-nothing to do with PR: Samurai (Gokaiger is two years ahead of Shinkenger).

In my defense I only saw Power Rangers here and there back in the day, not having cable or satelite at the time. Plus by the time they went "In Space", I was pretty much done with the show. From what I remember though there were very few instances where the individual main five Zords fought the monsters.
The only other Ranger series I've seen since then was RPM, and that didn't happen very often, but they were vehicles so it was kinda hard. I've also seen most of Dino Thunder, but other things got in the way and I kinda forgot about it. But yeah, not a whole lot of individual Zord fighting there either, but there is some from what I've seen.

Episode 3 -
Is it just me, or does Emily's character seem like it was written for a much younger person than she is? I get that she might be acting on the "dumb blonde" archetype mixed with a "goody-goody" trait, but she doesn't really seem to act like someone her age would.
In fact, the only one of the Rangers whose acting seems believable is Mike. His character seems real, while everyone else seems to act a little more wooden.
Why does Jayden suddenly already have the Beetle Disk? Why don't we see him getting it first?
Spike's trying a little to hard to be like Skull.
Oy, a stereotypically Texan-accented monster who won't stop talking. This is gonna hurt.
Jayden learned to master the Beetle Disk quite literally through Burning Justice. So the moral here is, if you want to achieve something, keep at it till you pass out and scream as loud as you can.
First appearance of the Fire Smasher Kayden Blast Mode and the Five-Disk Beetle Cannon.
"Sure." "Hope." "This." "Helps." - *facepalm*
Say, what is the method used to make the Nighlok grow giant in this series? I can't recall if it has been said yet.
First appearance of the Beetle Zord and the Beetle Blaster Megazord.
Jayden: "Well, guess what! Things are about to get real buggy for you, buddy!" - *double facepalm*
So. Many. PUNS! Gyaaahh!
Hello! Giant Moogers?!! Aw, YEAH! Now we got the enemies thinking smart for once! Making the foot soldiers giant sized is brilliant! At this size, they greatly outnumber and out speed the slow-moving Megazord... unless of course the Rangers have another Deus Ex Machina up their sleeve.
And next week... another filler.

I seriously hope that there's something wrong with Emily's mentality to explain her unusually high level of child-like behavior (as opposed it just being "lost in translation" writing basing her on her younger Shinkenger counterpart).
Negatron: "I better go vent somewhere else." - *Gets KRDK vibes from that line.*
When Bulk and Spike clashed "swords", a background simialr to those seen in the MMPR2010 recut appeared.
So, the Rangers' Samurai powers were literally passed down from their families? Let's see the canon work around that one.
So, Emily was picked on and clumsy as a kid, and never really got over it. I guess that's a start to explaining her behavior.
"Sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me!" - Oy, she just had to go there.
Can't they just have a decent Megazord fight doesn't require a pun-induced vocabulary?

Hmmm, regarding what you said about the Rangers' Samurai powers being passed down from their families. I think it can be canon. Just because their parents and family member had the powers doesn't mean they actually got to experience being a Power Ranger. Yes, they had the Samuraizer morpher, but maybe the Evil Master Xandred & his monsters were not a threat to Earth yet. Now that he has awoken, the current generation of the family is young and thus, get to fight as the new Samurai Power Rangers! (the previous samurai rangers being the ancient ones from centuries long, long ago)

I mean, let's see how it relates to the canon established by past series. Like, where the powers came from and when in regards to the previous Disney era series. I mean, do we still not know when this series takes place? Like, how long after Jungle Fury? Two years? Three? One? And we still need them to address when RPM occurs in this timeline (if it is in this timeline, that is).sdknight76 wrote:Hmmm, regarding what you said about the Rangers' Samurai powers being passed down from their families. Officially, RPM isn't in the timeline. As far as Power Rangers goes, it's non-canon. however, it's been officially stated that if Samurai does a crossover event with RPM, then they'll canonize it.

Hopefully, they'll do so in a way that makes sense. I mean, who thought it would be a great idea to make a non-canon series? We like continuity! We get that they tried it before with Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, and Ninja Storm, but those attempts were wonky at best. Why would they intentionally try to dissociate RPM with other series when it doesn't build upon to existing story?Shadowman wrote:Officially, RPM isn't in the timeline. Plus, the Red Overdrive Ranger's helmet cameoed in RPM once.
As for Samurai, here's my write for episode 5 (I didn't do write ups for those after 5 since this thread kinda died out for a while, and I haven't seen any episode passed 6).
Episode 5 -
So, they gotta capture wild zords in order to use them like in Wild Force?
A fishing pole? Really? And Why is Kevin talking to himself?
Is it really that strenuous for him to draw symbols and then cast them?
So, the Swordfish Fencer Megazord is just the Samurai Megazord with a new backpack and helmet? Oh, and the Megazord's sword attaches to its head.
Oh, hello mysterious white monster. What are you doing?
Next week: An interesting turn of events. The rangers face off against both the female Nighlok commander seen on their ship (Dayu) and the mysterious white warrior mentioned above (Deker).

Haha, I totally agree with you on that. RPM is like the 1st Power Rangers season to ever be non-canon. The incredible storyline itself separates it from the timeline. I mean, if it WAS canon, then the Time Force rangers should've done something about Venjix so that RPM's post-apocalyptic world would not happen. It's so tragic that all the rangers we have known actually died. Thus the RPM rangers are the only ones left =\. By the way, even though RPM was not a complete rip off of Go-onger, it amazes me how the season feels and IS out of continuity. That's how it's done with all Super Sentai seasons! So that they don't have to deal with the canon issues. But Power Rangers is canon, so let's hope non-canon seasons do not happen again. Although, I can't see how the future seasons can be in continuity, considering the themes of pirates and what not.

Not unless it takes place before the year 3000. Like in a post-SPD, pre-Time Force era. After all, from what we saw of Millennium City in the year 3000, the outsides of the city looked a lot like wastelands, like those seen in RPM.sdknight76 wrote:I mean, if it WAS canon, then the Time Force rangers should've done something about Venjix so that RPM's post-apocalyptic world would not happen.
Aren't we forgetting about Goseiger? It's Gokaiger that the pirate one. Goseiger came before it, and after Shinkenger.sdknight76 wrote:Although, I can't see how the future seasons can be in continuity, considering the themes of pirates and what not.Things are getting too weird and will be a challenge for Saban now!

The wastelands in RPM were caused by Venjix's nuclear (?) attack, and at the end of the series, it was shown that the damage was coming undone and life was returning.

Also, this isn't entirely Power Ranger-specific, but this Gokaiger footage is awesome.

Yeah, I saw a bit of that during Linkara's Ninja Storm review. Of course, he didn't show the epic bits, just every...single...Ranger (For lack of a better term) together. That was impressive even WITHOUT all of them fighting together.

Though, I've seen other vids like this one that are previews for something, but they include the five Gokaigers in the front of the army (in this video, the five Goseigers are at the front). So, this series could feature another all out battle with everyone a second time.

Totally, all of this makes sense. I really believe that RPM takes place before Time Force though. Just like in the Terminator movies (the former producer of RPM was probably influenced by the story), the humans send people back in time to prevent the young John Connor from being killed from terminators from the future. However, maybe Time Force chose not to mess with that part of history because if they helped destroy Venjix, it would cause Time Force to not exist in the future at all. Another reason why they don't stop Venjix, is probably because of their policy. SPD only went back in time to chase Gruum. Time Force only went back in time to chase Ransik & again for the Wild Force team-up of course. And humans send someone back in time to chase Terminators. Now I see, they only use time-traveling technology to go after their current enemies. They will not change other parts of history unless they have to chase someone from their time because they have to. Their goal is to preserve and leave history the way it is. Otherwise, so many things would change drastically if they don't take action & stop them as best they can.

Episode 6 -
Deker has become my official reason for watching this show. His formal debut has piqued my interest in the guy.
Episode 7 -
Ricardo Medina Jr., who played Cole in Wild Force, both voices Deker and portrays his human form.
Also, it is mentioned that Xandred was defeated by a previous Samurai Red Ranger. I guess that these Ranger powers have been used a few times before. Let's see the canon tackle that one in regard to past series.
Episode 8 -
I would so pay money to see Bulk perform a complete play of DDR (instead of the brief moment we see here). Though, I'm still not used to seeing him bald (I starting to kinda miss his ponytail
).
I also kinda hoped that Spike (and Bulk) would have found out (or at least would have come closer to finding out) the Rangers' identities, since Bulk and Skull spent so long wanting to find out their identities and never once got the chance to become fully fledged Secret Keeper allies to the Rangers. I'd think that Bulk especially would deserve such an honor, considering how much his character developed from high school bully to hero (he and Skull led the charge of civilians in the final fight of "Countdown to Destruction"). Not to mention that he suffered under tyrannical dictatorship of Angel Grove High, where students can get detention just for failing an assignment even if their behavior is good.
Additionally, this episode shows a sequence of flashbacks to where the Jayden and Kevin had used their Symbol Power in civilian form in previous episodes. However, the first of these flashbacks shows shows an even not seen in any previously-aired episode (Jayden uses his symbol Power to manifest a horse). Could this be a scene from a possibly unaired episode set before the first one that aired?

I hope you guys can help me, I'm looking for a set of Shinken-Oh candy toys from Japan. I can't find them anywhere on Ebay or any of the imports sites. I've been buying a few Sentai kits here and there as I don't have space for the DX versions. Looking for Dekawing too by the by.

I'm about a week behind, but here's something from episode 9 (last week's episode) that I gotta comment on.
"My only desire is to find someone skilled enough to be my opponent. Someone worthy to clash against my sword, Uramasa... That was too easy. This isn't the battle I want. Robtish's Double Slash took too much out of you. Uramasa won't be satisfied unless you're at your peak. Next time, you will taste this slash... Now go. You'll need to be at full strength to even have a chance against me... Red Ranger, you will satisfy my hunger. You will give me the battle I have desired for centuries. So for now I leave you be. Until you are again at your best, then we will duel... I am Deker. Nothing more, nothing less."

Why isn't this guy around more often?! He has become the reason I watch this show!
EDIT: Just watched episode 10 and am now caught up. Turns out his human form isn't a disguise, but that he is actually half-human!
Also, Jayden's got some ominous-sounding secret that he and Mentor Ji are keeping from the others.
And, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the term "Power Ranger" has never once been used in the show? Only the term "Samurai Ranger" or just "Ranger" have. Even Bulk uses the term "Samurai Ranger" instead of "Power Ranger" to refer to the Rangers, as though it the term "Power Ranger" was nonexistent in this show outside of the theme song.

Episode 11 just aired today and introduced Antonio, the Gold Ranger.
Four words: Worst. Sixth. Ranger. Ever.
I mean, this guy is just... lame. He lacks everything that was cool about all other past Sixth Rangers. He comes off as a this guy who thinks he's mega-cool and that everything he does is/has to be done in a "fantastic" way. He even describes how he's going to reveal himself to the other Rangers as his "big moment". And when the Rangers see that he looks kinda suspicious to them (before they find out who he is), he's all like, "No! You guys are going to ruin my big moment!"
Personality-wise, he's basically a direct rip off of the DC Comics' Booster Gold character, right down to his color scheme. All he lacks is his own version of Skeets and a desire to capture the media's attention. And, he keeps speaking in Spanish-esque slang terms like "Excellente!" Even Dustin from Ninja Storm was a little more dignified than this guy.
Sure, he's a great and awesome fighter (moving faster than the naked eye can see, as well as performing fighting techniques none thought possible), but that's to be expected of any Sixth Ranger. And because he's so good at these moves, it makes him come off as being even more of a Deus ex Machina than any of previous Sixth Ranger.
We also got to see his zord too. It's a squid. Regardless of them calling it an "Octozord", it's still a squid. They made the grade school mistake of calling a squid an octopus, when it's so obviously a squid.
However, I can say that I did find Antonio's Mega Mode to look cooler than that of the others. While their shields look more like rubber/plastic/spandex, his actually looks metallic (even if it isn't). It looks reminiscent to the original MMPR Green Ranger's Dragon Shield (the Sentai version, not the cloth shield from the U.S. footage).
But, despite all my disinterest in the guy, I'm sure he'll wind up growing on me like many of the others in the past have (even Gem and Gemma of RPM grew on me over time).
Though, there's something else of notice to point out. This episode had a short flashback to when Jayden and Antonio were kids, and both of their child actors kept their Down Under accents instead of trying out Amercian ones. This means that both Jayden and Antonio must have lost their accents as they grew up.

Re: Power Rangers: Samurai
I don't know if we have a Super Sentai thread but I just found this clip of 34 Sentai teams teaming up.
I haven't watched Power Rangers since Zeo but this piques my interest. Plus hearing about Gokaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle, the 35th anniversary movie sounds amazing.

OMG I love the 6th Samurai Ranger's megamode!! I bet Saban wanted it to be gold and black just like the 1st Gold Ranger from Zeo!
