I think it's a great figure when you look at it as mainly a limb combiner Transformer. As a standalone figure, Energon OP is kind of ugly(he's built like a barrel) and the alt form of the truck is fine but the trailer is a bit odd. However, I find those unconventional details interesting and appealing(beauty really is in the eye of the beholder in my case). I also like the way that the drones store in the trailer.
The figure truly shines for most people in the super mode with the 4 vehicle drones. The limbs are all solid. OP's shoulders, hips, and knees are all ratcheted joints. No rotational articulation in the legs but it's not a serious detriment to the figure's overall articulation. The vehicle drones, when used as arms, have ratcheted joints for the elbows and are able to rotate at the elbow. So overall, the figure has really good articulation in super mode.
OP is an ugly guy by himself but the figure is solidly constructed. Good thick plastic on all the parts. The same goes for the construction of the drones. One thing to be aware of is that the drones all have gaping holes in the rear sections where they connect to OP's limbs.
The figure can also combine with Energon Wing Saber and Energon Omega Supreme/Omega Sentinel so that's a bonus if you enjoy the super mode design. I have an Energon WS so I'm hunting down an Omega Sentinel to complete my Energon OP combiner options.
Energon OP doesn't seem to be as popular as his Cybertron/Galaxy Force version so the prices you'll find should hopefully be much easier on the wallet.

That's one of the things I really dig about Energon OP; all the different ways he can combine with the other characters you mentioned.
I always thought Energon Optimus Prime was silly-looking, mostly because of how tiny his arms and legs are compared to his torso, but over time I grew to like him, to the point that I bought Fire SL Grand Convoy (the one whose knee broke right out of the box).

I read about your Fire SL Grand Convoy. That sucks.
I had the same reaction about Energon Optimus too. It was kind of odd and goofy but it stands out from all the other Optimus Primes and I like that. The super mode is really neat and it's a functional toy that is great for just fiddling around with as well as displaying. The Flight and Fight modes with Wing Saber are cool and the combined mode with Omega Supreme/Sentinel is pretty impressive for its scale. I actually like Energon Optimus more than Cybertron Optimus, which is super cool too.

My primary issue at this point is what do I do with it? There are so many options. I have Shadow Commander, City Commander, and DIA Powered Commander, so I could display the repair bay mode with one of them, or remove the armor from one of the figures and display everything together as truck-and-trailers mode.
I'm very hesitant to remove the Fansproject armor sets, mostly because of the difficulty and force involved with putting on and removing the leg armor.

Human Alliance Sideswipe with Tech Sgt Epps. Haven't tried transforming Sideswipe yet, but it'd be okay to keep this one in vehicle mode anyway.
Star Wars: Clone Wars Jawas 2-pack... Because somebody's gotta sell all these droids I've got laying around, why not a couple Jawas? Besides...if I ever get the Pit Mobile Command Center - which, in its vehicle mode, reminds me a bit of the Jawas' sandcrawler - I'm gonna want some Jawas on hand to display with it.

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

Excellent win! Congrats!
I mentioned previously that I saw a review on Youtube where the reviewer held the Devastator repaint of Landfill by the head and shook it like crazy. I've got the yellow repaint and I'm still looking for the original Build Team and the Devastator repaint. I love that combiner set!
Ah, so I guess it's you that I have to thank for getting that Devastator set. I watched that same review and suddenly got the urge to look around Ebay for the figure. I had just gotten paid and figured I'd splurge on a figure. My max bid was 80 bucks and I got him for 40. Thanks for the heads up on a great figure Convotron. Any other recommendations? I've noticed that we have similar tastes in figures.

Nice, I got the Energon Optimus Prime from the 2pack with Megatron. It kind of bothers me, the huge helmet, I know it's suppose to make it look ok in combined form, but I like it better if they leave it off when not in the combined form. Anyways, gratz on the haul.

No problem! I was only recently enlightened on the great qualities of the Landfil and Rail Racer combiners from RiD.
Hmm, I've got a bit of an odd taste in that I'm all across the board. There's no one toyline I'm totally ga-ga over except TFA. I also have a penchant for chunky aesthetics. I've mentioned it before but Classics Hound is my ideal TF figure. It's got a nice chunky G1 style for the new millenium. It's my favourite figure of the line.
As for recommendations, there's so many! What qualities are important for you in a TF figure? Alt or bot aesthetics? Transformation design? Articulation? Throw me a hook and I'm sure I can offer some suggestions that you may dig.

Thanks! I really dig the Energon OP.
Yeah, it's too bad that the design didn't make the helmet better integrated so that you can conceal it when you don't want to use it. I don't plan on having E OP in bot mode without being combined with his drones or E Wing Saber. I do like the helmet harness in alt mode. I flip back the helmet and fold the side panels down in a way that makes it look like some sort of winged ornament on the back of the cab. I think it suits the futuristic truck design.

I actually think I agree about liking E-Prime better than Cyb-Prime. The combining is really cool, and he looks especially impressive combined with Wing-Saber. And I really don't mind the regular ol'Fatimus look either. Not a fan of the Power Ranger-esque colors of the drones, but I can get past it.
I do recommend the faceplate version though, for anyone still looking to pick this guy up. I've never been fond of mouths on Primes. If they all had a feature like GF/Cyb's moveable faceplate, I'd be happy. Oh, and if you LOVE chrome, the Superlink version of Energon Prime is worth looking into. It's also got brighter, more traditional colors, if that appeals to you. But, like all Japanese TFs, expect it to be more expensive and harder to find than the domestic version.
magnusalpha wrote:I'm very hesitant to remove the Fansproject armor sets, mostly because of the difficulty and force involved with putting on and removing the leg armor.
I've added & removed my CC armor set several times now, and it's totally fine. I admit it was scary the first couple times, but I've gotten used to the process, and the plastic is very sturdy, showing no sign of stress. I wouldn't worry too much.
Haul:
Universe Legends Brawn & Beachcomber
Beachcomber is great, I love the fun and surprisingly complex transfomation, the detail, the colors... it's the perfect homage. He's even got functioning knees for once (in this class)! His vehicle mode could look a little more dune buggy-ish, but that's a minor thing.
Brawn, on the other hand, is a little disappointing. He looks good in robot mode, but the vehicle mode is less than satisfactory. I'm not fond of the legs being visible on the top, but I can get past that, it looks like some sort of roof detail I suppose. What bugs me most is how his feet extend below the chassis, almost to the ground. It looks really stupid and seems kind of lazy on Hasbro's part, considering how well they did with Wheelie & Beachcomber.
Edit: Dammit! I just got outbid at the very last second on an Energon Galvatron. Literally less than 30 seconds left on the clock. Outbid by $1.

My younger brother loves Star Wars, maybe even more than me, so I gave the figure to him. I warned him to keep it in alt mode because it would look nice on his table. He didn't listen. He admitted his folly after transforming it for himself. Once again, big brother knows best.

I enjoy E OP so much, if I can find the faceplate version, I'd buy it.
I don't mind the Power Rangers colours of the clones but then again, if I can get an E Omega, I'd want Sentinel rather than Supreme due to Sentinel's red/white/blue colour scheme. I like having Submarine-4 and Copter-2 as the legs, while Digger-3 and Fire-1 as the arms. I've got the air and water vehicles for mobility and the fire and earth vehicles for offense.

Yeah, I was very nervous about putting on and removing the Commander armor but it's not so bad now that I've done it a few times. I'm still super careful, though, hehe.
Edit, update:

Dang, sorry to hear about that. I really like the E Galvatron figure. The ones I've found so far are asking a pretty penny and the auctions on eBay go high fast. Yet another to-buy figure for me.

I usually display mine with Wing Saber, or in regular robot mode if there's not enough space. I do acutally have it in 'Megazord mode' right now, but I can't even remember which drones are where. I never did pick up either of the Omega figs. Although they look pretty cool I don't normally buy huge TFs, and I only collect certain characters.

Ah well, better luck next time, right? Yeah, I was too indecisive (and broke) when it first came out in stores, but I started collecting Galvatrons more recently. I thought for sure I'd get it this time since it was a Canadian auction...cheaper shipping, and less visibility to US fans, right? No such luck. Oh well, I swear I'll get one for under $80 eventually!

Yeah, he's awesome with WS. I love the different looks Fight and Flight modes give the figure. It's awesome having Digger for an arm in super mode because he has a DRILL HAND OF BURNING JUSTICE!!!
Gotta love the fighting spirit in anime, huh?
I don't know how soon I'll even consider getting an Omega unless I get a really cheap one. I can barely store my Transformers at the moment so it'll be a time of just watching...and waiting...on auctions.
