A question about animated bliztwing?

I was messing around with my animated blitzwing the other night and I came across these purple switches on his arms. I was wondering if anyone had figured out what these were original designed to do since all they seem to do is make a clicking nose.

They just pop out so his forearms will be thicker in robot mode, yet thin enough to not disturb the other two modes.
