advice: should I open my SDCC Nemesis Prime or keep sealed?
I only started collecting a year ago, but so far I've opened every figure I've bought (mostly newer figures). I don't really think it's worth buying an action figure if I can't enjoy it out of the package. But I haven't opened Nemesis Prime yet. I've already got the OP version of the mold to "play" with and display, so I don't have that much desire to open NP, and I figure it might be worth good money years from now since it's an online exclusive not available in stores (even though it's easy to get online).
So what do you guys think? Should I keep it sealed, or open it up?

Open it or sell it on. There are few things more pointless than an unopened toy.

For anyone who hasn't seen Spotlight: Sledge (and why not?!), my gritty and dark fanfiction piece "Holiday" is posted here.

For the most part, I agree. As I said, I always open my TFs. But I'm wondering if this is one that might be worth keeping sealed. Maybe in 5 years I can sell it for $100 (or more) on eBay. I guess my real question is: Do you think this figure will increase in value more than other TFs from this year?

Well, I guess it depends how long you're planning on keeping it in package. Keep in mind that there's going to be a Japanese release of the SDCC Nemesis Prime, so some might be holding out for that (I guess some people think red windows make the toy?). And keep in mind that Nemesis Prime has also been announced for the HTS/Asia-exclusive Special Edition toys. So if you think it's valuable enough, keep it sealed away for ten years or so and sell it then, you'll probably make some good cash.
But personally, I think the toy far exceeds the original Prime colors. It looks cooler, feels cooler, and overall is cooler. As I am also one to free my minions from their plastic prisons, my advice is this: If you plan to sell it, do it right now (before the other versions come out) or in a good number of years (or maybe try to peddle one at the next Botcon or local convention), or open it and enjoy it for the awesomeness that it is.
Of course, this is also coming from someone who had the same debate over Wildrider. Now, he's standing next to Thrust in all his shiny glory, so I may not be the best example of holding off XD;

I really can't see the point in "investing" in Transformers. You can't know what's actually going to prove desirable in the future, or even if HasTak are going to release something similar but better that will become the desired item. I just come back to the point that they're toys. Open them, enjoy them. If you want to make money, invest in gold, or Coca Cola.

I only keep those figures sealed, that I have opened from that mold allready - currently I have an alt. Shockblast, an anim. Elite BBee and a Cyb Skywarp sealed.-only bought them because they were very cheap.
But if you hadn't opened a figure from that mold allready: FREE IT FROM THE PLASTIC PRISON!!!

Considering it's still available on HTS I think you'd be selling at a loss within the US and probably only for about your post-shipping costs selling internationally...aka little to no profit. In other words, unless you're hooking someone up, there's no point in selling it now.

Exactly.
I don't see much point in keeping toys as investments. There is no real money in it. If the toy is worth $100 in ten years, then you kept a toy that made maybe 10% a year. You're better off paying down credit card debt or buying some cheap stocks. Invest in gold or silver.
If you want to keep it in box because that's what you like, then fine. If you buy stuff cause you know it will skyrocket in price (Botcon figures, for example) then there is money to be made. But keeping a single figure is chump change at best. Better to enjoy the toy.

I just got my Nemesis Prime in the mail today from HTS, and he's already open and on the shelf. I personally open everything, I buy TF's my own personal enjoyment. Any monitary value they have is a sidenote.

I'm starting to think you guys are right. It's not like an unopened one is going to be worth a ton more than an opened one anyway. I'll just save him for a "rainy day" to open.

You might consider holding on to the box since he is an exclusive. I usually don't keep boxes, but I will make exceptions for certain specialty items.

Ya know, if it is really weighing on your mind that much you can do what I know others members do, buy another one.
One to open and one to keep MISB. Not to mention buying one now from HTS will be better than buying one later from someone on Ebay for an inflated price, should you change your mind. Food for thought. Yum

I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by how many people open their transformers. I did buy Nemesis Prime and I did open him mainly because my classic Cons need more members. Him with Fracture make me think of the New Stunticons (which is why I went ahead and ordered Dragstrip from HTS). And i agree, keep the box. Also I find the profile interesting.

yeah...don't do that. If you open it and THEN sell it don't be deceptive towards a fellow collector.
On subject, I keep many of my figures captive. I also am assuming that we are talking about universe nem prime and not alt nem prime. If i am correct than i say open it. This is one repaint that needs to be opened to fully appreciate it (imho).

I opened mine.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Yup, if anybody wants to do more business than one, don't do that, behaviour like that will earn only a freakin' big negative feedback.

In other words: lie, cheat, break the terms of service of eBay, and screw over a fellow collector? No, thanks. How about this instead: I'll take him out of the box carefully, save the box, and if I ever want to sell him I'll carefully repackage him and explain in the auction that the figure was removed from the package for display. I may lose a few potential dollars, but my honesty and integrity will be intact and I won't be selfishly screwing someone else over for my own benefit.

I'M that dumbass who buys 2 of all exclusives. I have one Nemmy P opend and displayed with classics Decepticons. I have one in a GEORGIOUS box as well. considering grading it....just for the hell of it.
If you know you want one MISB yet you GOTTA open it and mess with it...(what good is a Transformer you'll never Transform?) buy 2.

Hopefully this is just a joke that didn't go over so well...but if not, be sure it sells to your neighbor so he can come over and blast you in the package once he receives the item you scammed off on him.
And just for the record, I don't condone package blasting...despite probably deserving it.
