Still you make an excellent point about the interactivity of the toys.
And again I say battery corrosion seems to have been exaggerated a bit too much.
Where did the phrases come from with those figures? Out of the figures themselves or seperate voice boxes as with 20th Anniversary DVD Optimus Prime? Either way, the Animated Leader-class figures will take the talking feature a step further and include moving faces and mouths.
As for battery corrosion, it can be unpleasant. When I was home for Christmas, I was going through a collection of toys my parents kept from when my brother I and were young. Of these toys was a Mighty Max playset, "Mighty Max Storms Dragon Island" with batteries still inside. The batteries had begun to leak and eat away at their plastic casing. I really only resulted in corroded white dust and scarring on the plastic. It certainly wasn't like sulfuric acid had begun to melt the toy or anything. Minor damage at best, but I can certainly see how, over time, it could ruin the toy or its packaging.

The figures had sound boxes inside parts of themselves. Prime had it under the Siren Lights, and Magnus had it in his Thruster pack, the are not removable.
O.k so no their mouths did not move, but they did have Voice clips from the Show.

- First, my Gen2 Prime still has it's original batteries, and still working condition, no corrosion or anything (however the sounds are a bit weak for now) - for it's 17 years, it's not bad...

Not quite. That Prime is the Cybertron Prime combined with Cybertron Wing Saber. Each was available at regular retail by itself.
But there was a 2 pack in Costco of them. So basically its the fact they came packaged together that's exclusive. But the actual figures themselves weren't exclusives.
Still Prime is very cool. And you can now get Wing Saber in his new colors (White and Green chrome) as TRU Exclusive Movie Allspark Power Wing Blade I think it is.

Exactly. I could have bought them separately, but I bought it thinking..."This would be a cool addition to my MISB stuff." Lot of good that did when I got it and couldn't help myself

I haven't heard of any batteries leaking in recent months, however they are most likely the same cheap chinese batteries that can be found in all other TFs, which means it's better to be safe than sorry.

I don't care how rare a figure is. If it ends up in my collection, it's getting opened. Not even AFA are safe in their plastic coffins.
I don't know why collectors feel as though they need to buy 2 of the same figure just so they can have the satisfaction of never opening one.
I've been using wire cutters on my toys since Unicron. Nail cutters work great too. I'd rather have chopped up wire than carpal-tunnel. Only figures I'd not use cutters on would be convention figures, but that's only because if I ever needed to sell my collection, I'd want the convention figures to be in the best of shape.

I cannot sympathize with you man, as a kid I hated getting toys without batteries, it was a let down.

i like the idea of the batteries being packaged in the box, but not in the figure.

I haven't seen batteries melt and corrode something since I was a kid. I don't think modern batteries have that problem.
Anyway, it serves you right for buying a toy and sticking it on a shelf somewhere where nobody will ever play with it. That's like complaining that your cat was dead after you took it out of the plastic bag you kept it in for the last 10 years.

I don't have the willpower to look at a toy in a box for more than about 10 seconds. I don't collect toys so they can sit in a box. you leave a toy in a box and that is exactly what you have. A box. You can't play with a box. Well, I suppose you could, but what would be the point?
I am a big fan of batteries included in the packaging. I think all toys that require batteries should be packaged with them. I mean, who hasn't had a Xmas or birthday ruined because of a lack of batteries?
However, batteries should be packaged with the toy instead of in the toy. I don't like buying a toy that hundreds of kids pressed on while it was sitting on the shelf. Over time, the mechanisms would have to wear out from use.

Oh, and is it a sign of serious TF addiction that I'm thinking of getting some wire-cutters solely to cut those smegging twisty ties?
Yeah, we will, and it will be sweet. Imagine this, you're an MISB collector and when you wake up one morning, ALL of your TFs are opened and the boxes smouldering on a huge bonfire on the front lawn.![]()
Wire-cutters! Genius idea mate! Why did I never think of that? I'd better go and buy some, then to do some 'quality control' I'd better go buy some TFs to see if the cutters work
Just a year or two ago I thought of using nail clippers, and suddenly thought; "WHY IN THE HELL HAS NO ONE (including myself) THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE?!?" It really is quite an ingenious idea, an yet its a wonder that it takes so long to think of it...

I always use nailcutters. I keep a pair in my end table drawer (along with my box cutter for slicing through the tape) specifically for opening TFs. I use the toenail clippers, which have a convex blade instead of concave like the fingernail clippers, to reduce the possibility of scratching the TF with those sharp little corners.
