Anyone here actually likes their protoform Prime?

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anyone here actually likes their protoform Prime?

Postby Bonecrusher27 » Tue Oct 30, 2007 10:51 am

In stores towards the end of the last droguht, the only toys available were the protoforms. On Hasbrotoyshop.com and Target.com for a while, the only toys left were the Protoforms. And on Amazon.com, the only Deluxes you could get for $9.99 were the Protoforms. See a pattern here?

I just received my Protoform Prime, and I have to say that he's one of my favourite Deluxes. In my opinion he looks good, and the level of articulation rocks! Not just the ball joints, but also his torso articulation at two levels: chest and waist!

He also makes sense. I can see where parts of him actually become parts of my leader Prime, such as those two shoulder flaps and of course, the chest piece. Love those toes feet: both aid in stability plus give it a primitive feel, very in line with the protoform idea!

The only two things that spoil it for me are that stupid flame (easily disposed of) and the fact that his ball-n-socket hips are loose. Anyone have suggestions to fix this? I keep hearing references to applying vaseline: but how to actually do this is never detailed. Would appreciate any advice here. If I can fix it, he'll take up permanent space on my posing shelf.

I'm trying to find one. I passed on him the first time, i thought he was just too small and pointless. But since then I've done a 180.

And now I can't find him anywhere.

Thanx, but Hasbro won't ship to where I live, and Walmarts down here don't have that feature.

I don't think I'll buy any protoforms, they didn't and still don't make sense as transformer toys to me.

I love my Protoform Prime. He was my first toy from the movie line as well. His poseability is excellent, and he's a nice size to pit against Robot Replicas Megatron. Makes for some great ideas about their battles on Cybertron before the Allspark was cast into space.

Absolutely love my ProtoPrime. He has amazing articulation and puts a lot of other Deluxes to shame. His Ion Rifle just kick ass, looks so much better than the Voyager or Leader class weapons. He is easily one of my most favourite movie and Prime figures ever.

He's pretty cool. I wasn't gonna bother with the protoforms, I picked him up in a 3-pack with Deluxe Jazz and Brawl, and despite my initial misgivings, I've grown to like him. The transformation's pretty clever, the gun looks good, and the articulation's great.

I had no desire to get either of the protoforms, until I got Proto Prime in a lot of other TFs that I won on ebay. I transformed him once and was hooked.

Went out and got Starscream too. I like them b/c they are so different than any other TFs that I have. I also like how you can "map" parts on the proto to their earth mode (like someone else mentioned).

I saw them, infact tons of them on the pegs here when they came out, and I passed.
I wish now that I picked one up.

For those of you still looking for Protoform Prime, Amazon has him for $9.96.

I like them, after seeing the movie, they made sense. I kind of think of them more as an action figure of the line. I also just ordered the Japnaese exclusive crystal ones.

This begs the question if Prime's true Cybertronian look was similar to his ProtoForm, which is basically only a mode for space travel. Did any prequel comic depict Cybertron Prime in alt mode?

I don't think so. There might have been some flashbacks in the UK magazine but I don't recall anything in IDW's output.

Certainly, in the IDW comic, his robot mode resembled the protoform toy.

I love my protoform Prime. He may look really different than most figures, and the alt-mode might be a tad strange as well, but he's got terrific details and posability- especially considering he's a deluxe toy. I've been tempted to pick up starscream, but that color pattern is sorta turning me off (also, did anyone notice he looks MUCH better on the back of his box- almost a different mold even?)

Also; this may be cheesy, but I was thinking of getting another protoform prime to recolor in a traditional red-white color scheme. Anyone else think it could work well?

I like both Protoforms. Oddly, they are two of the only movie toys my opinions haven't changed about....I liked them from the first time I saw them. Don't find interest in more Protoform figures, but these two were cool and different.

I think it would have worked if his alt mode was a Cybertronian vehicle. Being an entry mode form I don't see how the colours would work.

Anyone read the prequel? Did the TFs have a vehicle mode on Cybertron, or is the protoform mode it?
