At least 31 dead in Va. Tech shooting rampage

You know that something bad happened when non-TF news is on Seibertron. The last time that happened (as far as I can remember) was Hurricane Katrina.
Condolences to their friends and family.

Hey Everybody,
I am a student here at Virginia Tech (They were the Fighting Gobblers before they switched to the Hokies). I was in Randolph which was right behind Norris Hall. I am acctually a freshman engineer here and me and my friends were all a little shaken up by the events today. I presonally was kept in lockdown in the Randolph Hall for at least 3 hours and saw several police officers (FBI, ATF, State, etc.) outside. I spent the majority of the time locked up in the office where i work.
I got online just a few minutes ago to check my email and to let my friends know that i was ok. I thought i would check my favorite Transformers site and then i saw the news post and I
just want to thank everyone for the kind words and toughts you have expressed for the school and students.
Thanks again to everyone and Heres to hoping the police can get everything figured out and everyone stays safe,
The Fighting Gobbler

Might I suggest that we be offering our prayers and condolences to all 30,000 Americans between the ages of 15 and 24 that die each year?
Sorry if this sounds crass, but the Availability Heuristic (overestimating the impact of things like school shootings b/c instances come to mind more easily than car accidents) is the reason why people get hyper in response to an event like this and start trying to outlaw guns and games.
So I just wanted to put things in perspective. If that 1996 data is consistent to the present, approximately 10,000 high school and college aged Americans die in a year from car accidents, but that gets little to no coverage, versus what happened today. And surely their lives were worth no less, right?
And additionally, to those that are so hot to use various explitives regarding the killer, and fantasizing about doing horrible things to him, remember that while your feelings are certainly human, they aren't necessarily right. It's that human capacity to feel such hateful impulses that causes this sort of tragedy in the first place. Like it or not, this is the real worl, not science fiction - that guy was as human as any of the rest of us.
Frankly, I always feel that the public reaction to events like this is really the most disturbing part. The fact that this guy can, through his actions, drag so many others down into fear and hate, is truly disturbing.
May God understand him, forgive him, and love him in spite of what has happened, because no one else will.
And Ultra_Jetstorm, kudos to you for hanging together so well. It had to be as scary as something really scary.
Edit: And same to TFG.
Anyone else amused that one of the first things these guys do after a near-death experience is visit Seibertron?
I probably would.

First: My condolences to the familys of the victims including the shooters family... who're probably more shocked and embarrassed than sad at this point.
Second: This is what you get when allow everyone the right to bare arms in the good old USA. Either stop selling these items which are only for one reason... or allow people who've got a few screws loose continue to use others as target practise.

This is indeed a horrible event.
I woke up this moring and the death toll was 21 as posted on Yahoo...turn on the TV and it's 22...go to the mall to get job applications and return to a front page on Seibs saying 31...and now I'm hearing 33 from other places. What a mess.
My deepest condolences to all effected by this tradgety.
The_Fighting_Gobbler, glad to hear you're alright.

You can't blame gun laws for every time something like this happens.

I was in Whittemore Hall (two buildings over) at the time and we were stuck there for several hours. Norris, where the incident happened, is the location of the ESM department and the Dean's Office. Just last Friday we had a bomb threat to one of the other engineering department buildings. Before this morning, people believed it to just be a student who did not want to take a test. We are all unsure whether or not the two events are connected now. I will admit that Tech has had massive growth during the last ten years. However, the community is still small without the students and this is VERY UNUSUAL for blacksburg. In reply to the comment about wealthy students, we do have some but I personally am lower middle class and had to go somewhere close by due to expenses.
Glad to hear you made it out alive bud. Hope everyone you knew also made it out of that place in one piece.

If you don't give people the tools to kill (especially since they're built for that purpose) then at least you can cut down the fatality rate. It's easier for police to stop a guy with a knife than with a gun.

I'm still surprised the guy did that much damage with just two 9mm pistols.

How dare they put that ambulance chaser on to asses this horrible tradgedy.
You think they wont blame Videogames? Fist it was comics, then Heavy metal Music, then tv and movies, now games. They just want a scapgoat so they dont have to report on how his family treated him or how he was bullied in school. I agree i think its Bullshit that games are being blamed (again)but thats the "in" thing these days. I can tell you right now, games didnt do it. They might have influenced that coward on how he planned how he was gonna do it. But unless he did some kind of Metal Gear, Same Fisher sneaking **** then games had nothing to do with it. And also why the hell do they always kill them selves? If there gonna kill them selves do it with what ever honor you have left and stab your self in the gut while some one else chops your head off with a sword.
Why can't they just say "People are crazy." Just look at Hitler... he didn't have video games or hardcore rock music. All these stupid people who blame media as the cause are full of ****.
I've been playing Doom, Quake and UT for years and you don't see me going around and shooting people for the fun of it.

Making it harder for people to get guns legally only makes it harder for people to get guns legally. It does nothing to stop people who would get them illegally from getting them illegally. Thus, in the end, all you're doing is making it harder for people to protect themselves from bad people.
And PLEASE understand this is NOT an argument FOR guns. I've never shot a gun. I hate them. I think they're horrible tools. But I'm not going to throw out logic because of it.

Background checks aside, there's no need for guns. Period.

Well, a regular 9mm can hold up to 16 rounds and he had a 22 caliber revolver plus a few magazines

In Japan, you cannot buy guns. If there's ever an incident of a gun being fired it's either because the police had to shoot someone or it was Yakuza related.

Why must people do stupid sh!t like this. Seriously if you see someone open fire, grab the first metal object and knock him across the head before he does more damage.

Terrible thing to happen. I feel bad for everyone affected.
I don't post much here anymore, but I'd like to say thanks to the News Crew and Seibertron for keeping us up to date on important world news, as well as the regular TF stuff. It's good and important to take time and give attention to stories such as these.
Again, my condolences to the victims and their families.

Yes, but in a society that, unfortunately (and when I say that I mean it like... I don't believe the 2nd amendment gives us the right to have guns, as a for instance), has guns all over the place to begin with, you can now not take them away. to take them away from people only means that the people who would them legally can't get them. the people who would do bad things with them still can get them, because such a rule does not effect the way they get those weapons.
