My two companies I'd trust to make it if it were to be :
PlayNc / Blizzard.
Now this is how I feel it could work :
Set vehicle and species types for alt modes.
Choose Alt mode FIRST.
Then you use a special creation program that allows you to select
parts of the vehicle or species to become specific parts of the head, torso, arms, legs, waist, etc... by clicking on portions of the alt mode. From this data it would alow people with the same vehicle or species styles to transform entirely differently depending on their choices for which parts become what on the robots.
Now, Training rooms will be Moon Base 1 and 2, Autobots and 'Cons respectively. Then once you've reached an established level, you either go to Earth or Cybertron depending on your faction choice.
Or you might just choose that part yourself with any faction.
But the main thing will be these two worlds joined by periodical space-bridge missions to the other world...
You'd start small like Bumblebee or CLiffjumper minibot style and progress through the classes and maybe take special missions to adopt secondary alt modes and become a triple-changer, and those mishes would be very hard.
I'd like to see PlayNc do the character generation because they did so well with CoH/CoV. (City of Heroes/Villains). But I'd also like Blizzard to be involved for gameplay reasons. I think that would be advantageous.
The real characters could be contacts for missions and tutorial-spewing bots while the players would have to create their own robots and name them with original names.
I think expansions would bring more planets, like from Cybertron series, the speed and jungle planets and such... but that would come later.
You'd have a power on each arm that augments your hand/forearm (like Ironhide's nitrogen or Jazz's grapling hook) You'd also have one main characteristic-based power for that character as well, not sure what that could be yet, but it'll come to me.
Everyone could get Cyberton-key like enhancments that last for short bursts or they could get total permanent upgrades by visiting wheeljack's lab. They could get repaired by Ratchet or Perceptor too.
Soundwave/Blaster styles would be allowable with up to 6 minions each.. but you'd have to earn each minion through time and missions and start out with none or maybe just 1.
That class would be unlockable after totally leveling one character all the way, so it would be a status thing to have a soundwave/blaster toon. Totally customizable.
The Decepticon version of this would be able to generate energon by itself, just as an extra kick while all other bots have to find it.
And the balance of that on the Autobot side for the Blaster-style toon would be able to call Prime for assistance at any time where no other bot could do so and Prime comes and helps you through a mish!
This is my basic idea of how a GOOD TF MMO would be.

Re: Considerations for a GOOD TF-MMO
Does it play like WoW with point and click spells? If so no thanks, TFs deserve an MMO first person/third person shooter/brawler type game. TFs don't cast spells and have to wait 13 seconds to use ability "squeeze trigger" to attack an enemy with. No thanks to WoW clones.

TFs for trade, let me know if you have any of the ones I want or if you're interested in the ones I have.

um,obviously you should take what I said about having WoW's gameplay and substitute spells for character-based skills as I have already mentioned that aspect in my originating post. And as a fact of the matter in character-control, You CAN have total arcade-feel control with WoW if you configure your settings and use WASD with the number keys for your "spells". That's no different then using WASD and number keys above in CoH/CoV for powers... Please tell me you've actually played WoW long enough to figure out your own controls before giving up? Point-and-click movement and spellcasting is an OPTION but never a requirement my friend.

while this is true, you still have to wait for many 'abilities' to actually happen, where as a TF game should be instant action from a key press, not waiting to 'cast' or 'charge' anything!

Exactly. That was my whole point but I think he missed it.
@ OP: If you want to play WoW and transform then be the guy who turns into animals, a TF game with WoW play mechanics would be no fun at all.
I have an entire thread devoted to the perfect TF MMO, which is not a WoW clone, and has all the character customization a TransFan could ever want. It has action, adventure, stealth, brawling and all out gun fights. I think a WoW clone with TF skins would more than likely kill off a lot of the newer fans and would-be-fans simply because it would be a "new look, same game" type of deal.
The Transformers deserve their own game engine, with transformations happening at an instant and no standing still and waiting to transform while your 'mana' bar fills up. Transformers do NOT cast magic spells, so please never recommend a TF WoW clone ever again so help me Primus.

I never said I wanted a WoW clone and I'm against waiting to cast spells... all you said originally was that point-and-click was bad, and did not mention the waiting thing. I agree that waiting is bad too. I also said PlayNC is a great choice for a character-generator and I'll add gameplay to that now that Cryptic is out of the picture.
Nobody can say they have the PERFECT idea, so I'm not going to tout my opinion as you have... I simply think I have a pretty good idea. As far as WoW gameplay elements I like the interface and moveable inventory. I would simply replace spells with abilities and have the actions be immediate, thats what I'd change. I'd have plenty of PlayNC influence as far as enhancments go and temporary powers.

As for spell thing that was mentioned, you could just purchase and equip different weapons and whatnot instead. Your guns could also overheat, run out of ammo or something else to that effect.

Not upgrading from Minibots. Noooo. That won't work. I think you should choose from these separate things. Minibots and Micromasters and things would be faster than the bigger ones, but not as strong. There'd have to be specific advantages and disadvantages between them, like different species. The average-sized TFs could be like the all-rounder ones.
NOT abilities. That's just...off. I would think more of a Two Worlds-type game, though rather than casting spells or whatever, you could have a massive cannon or something, that needs charging up and/or cooling down, which makes it more logical. Weapons configurations would be important too. Like the energy distribution from the Armoured Core series, so you can't have loads of weapons. Bigger TFs can carrier more and heavier weapons than Minibots. Makes sense, no?
