Decisions, Decisions.

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

I'm 14, so as you can imagine, my parents don't encourage me buying Transformers, and they seem to allow me to buy around 2 a year. I purchased Armada Starscream and Galvatron last year, and came to the realization that this year I had not purchased any. I need help deciding which figures to purchase.

I prefer the U3 toys, as I am a huge fan. Similar toy lines like Classics and Universe are ok too
My parents do not allow beast mode transformers, to this day I don't know why
I don't like very many movie figures, most have Transformations that are way too complicated.

Suggestions?

Well, there are worse hobbies out there then transformers so...... I'd maybe say ask your parents why? Maybe it's a money issue, which can be many and hard to understand.

I'd say if and when you have a job, allow a small amount for your hobbies, and be realistic.

But if honestly your only allowed 2....... hard call. I'd say find out what your limits are cash wise, and that will dictate what you could get. If budgeted, I'd say Movie Shockwave is a good call, but that is your call. If the sky is the limit, there are tons out there worth more and cost more.

whatever catches your eye I'd say.

It's because they think I'm too old to be buying toys, and I should be focusing on sports and my future and stuff like that. It's understandable, and I am focusing on my future and sports, but that doesn't mean I can't also buy toys.

I own DOTM Shockwave and DOTM Skyhammer. They are my faves from this line. I haven't transformed them to their alt modes since they came in 'bot mode. But I just love how they look. And only getting 2 a yr would drive me crazy!! Do you get an allowence? If you do, it shouldn't matter what you spend that money on if you're doing what they want you to do, like chores and get good grades. It's better you be into that then drugs or something worse.
Long live the Decepticons!! I love G1 Starscream!!

Don't tell Starscream, but I'm in love with movieverse Ironhide! ;)

Yes, I own shockwave. Click on my link below and there are a few pics of him scattered in there. I have not transformed him yet. I don't know why, just like him in bot mode.

Well, to have your parents see it seriously, I'd say have a shelf or two for them, and let them see it's important to you and there taken care of and what not. But sounds like you have your priorities right and know TF's come as you can find time and afford them. Cause once your sucked in, your wallet feels it.

DOTM Shockwave is an option, but I'd want to wait like a year and buy it on ebay for cheaper

Well it's not really allowance, but a scrape the walls of the pool every day for $20 a week.
And that's a very good point!

Ain't that the truth!!! I'm lucky if I have gas money for my truck. I've spent way too much money this past month playing catch up with my TF collection. It's like you get this voice in your head telling you to go buy more. Or when you just go to look and one is calling out to you saying, "Buy me! Buy me! You know you want to!"

This is one that could turn out good or just ok for you. Cheaper perhaps. But now you get it Mint in box and your still able to return it if something is wrong with it for a different one. Or you can return it if you get it and decide it isn't for you as long as the box is nice and all.

EBAY can be a goldmine as far as price goes at times or it's easier to track down what your looking for. So....... the goods with the bads.

I hadn't thought of that. Still, even if Transformers turn out to be crap, like (In my opinion) 2007 Bonecrusher, I don't really ever return them.

And if you're getting 20 bucks a week, you could always use an x amt for a TF fund and save the rest. 80 bucks a month you could divide up. Maybe if you're parents see you can save money also, they can see you can be mature about it too.

Not sure how to deal with only getting 2 a year.

Growing up, I've always been allowed to buy whatever I wanted as long as I had the money for it.

Figure out what the real reason is that they don't want you buying. I know plenty of jocks that have a toy collection of some sort.

Im also 14 (15 on 7/4/11) and parents actualy got me involved in them by making me watch TF rid, back when it was on fox. My dad will sometimes will make speacial tripes to a store to look for a tf i want.
The dotm line is actualy much easier to transform ( except for leader setinal). If you can only get two i would get the generations Scourge and Kup. They are great figures.

Also as already suggested save $5 a week or any other amount.

Last, do you have any younger brothers or sisters. If so your parents would probably buy a tf or any other toy before you because they are younger. Thats why i like being a only child. I usually get a new tf about every other week but if i help out a lot i could get three or more a week if i use some of my own money too.

I remember when I was around 11 years old my mom wouldn't buy me any decepticon G-1 toys for a while.

Then I snuck a few in & later explained they weren't that evil & the package words were extremly over exagerated.

What's your spending budget for those 2 transformers toys per year?
Is it limited or skies the limit?

It's kinda hard to post suggestions in this thread,if we don't know how much your parents are willing to spend on those 2 figures per year.

It appears your willing to shop on-line & get TF toys from years ago. instead of just getting whatever is on the shelves.

So with all this above info in mind, here's my suggesstions.

I'm all about decently poseable TF toys. lately i'm into updated homages based of G-1 toys. I'm also now into those movie-verse homages based off G-1 toys.

Here's my top 10 TF toys list I recommend to anyone.

(1) Titanium 6 inch Rodimus Prime

(2) Takara 2010 Unicron.

(3)Hasbro's MP Rodimus. it's not out yet but $50 is leaps & bounds better than paying takara's $190+ price

(4)Animated leader sized Megatron

(5) Animated leader sized Ultra Magnus

(6) both the animated deluxe Lockdown in the second gold highlights colors & the ROTF Deluxe Locldown.

(7)$29.99 Human allegiance bumblebee toy.

(8)Cybertron Winsabre ultra size. such a beautiful & powerful looking toy in both modes

(9)classics 1.0 deluxe rodimus & the 3rd party protector trailer/armor.

(10)Classics 2.0 deluxe sized Cyclonus.

You've gotten a lot of good responses by now, but I wanted to throw my opinions in.

First off, DOTM Shockwave is a great figure. His robot mode is a great homage to the G1 character (for those, like myself, who are into that). Also, he's not terribly difficult to transform. I took my time during first transformation with instructions, but afterwards it was easy to go back and forth. He's not a difficult design. If he's one of the top figures you'd like to have now, then get him now!

Second, if you have a Target near you, he's on sale for $17.99. You're already saving $2 off retail price, and if you go to Target.com you can get a coupon for an additional $3 off a DOTM Voyager figure, which Shockwave happens to be.

Third, e-Bay is a good and bad thing. I've been noticing lately a lot of auctions for opened TFs which have starting bids for the original suggested retail price. So, you think you'd get a deal because you're buying a "used" figure, but some sellers still expect you to pay at least what they paid for the new figure. Regarding my previous paragraph, go get Shockwave while he's on sale!

Lastly, you can still focus on other things while having hobbies. You can remain active in any sports you choose and still buy a figure every now and then. Anything you do can be taken to an extreme, and it does not have to be in the collector's market. Just have limits, whether it's money or time invested.

I don't know about the trailer/armor, but I will be purchasing Classics Rodimus
As for Cyclonus, I was never really a fan of the look of the TFTM characters who were reformatted by Unicron.

Shockwave - due to all the suggestions for him, he is #2 on my list of to buys
Scourge - same reason as stated above for Cyclonus
Sentinal Prime - Same reason as stated above for Unicron and MP rodimus
