Autobot032 wrote:My collection consists of Alternators, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Classics and the Movie line. As it stands, A/A/E/C/C sits on my collection shelves, untouched. Right now, it's Movie, Movie, Movie, Movie. They're my main focus right now and they get transformed frequently. I'd say each figure, on average, gets transformed once to the opposite mode (if it's in robot, I'll transform him to vehicle and vice versa) and then leave it on display. Sometimes I'll leave the figures like that for an entire week and then come back and transform them. Then other times, I'll transform 'em to robot and back and then back to robot before putting it down.

So as you can see, I don't play with my figures really (although I considering transforming and posing them as playing. :D) and I like frequently and infrequently transform my figures back and forth at any given time....

Will Megatron hold up under that kind of usage if I'm delicate? (If you saw my collection, you'd say I'm almost dainty*.)

*= Dainty as in overly fastidious, squeamish. And under the heading of fastidious: Possessing or displaying careful, meticulous attention to detail. Exacting.

So after all of that long winded crap...if I pick him up on any given day, take my time, go really carefully with him...he'll hold up, yes?

Well once you move him the first time he has very tight joints, but they kind loosen real fast, if you transform him twice a day you will have to get a stand so he'll stand in bot mode.

Good to know. I watched three reviews on YouTube and I realized that he's not as fragile as I had originally thought. No, he's not indestructible, but I do realize now that if I'm careful and take care with him like I do my other figures, he'll do just fine. Patience, a steady hand, and meticulousness will go along way to enjoying him for a long time.

I am glad this review turned up as I am debating the purchase. In years past this would be a no brainer but due to budget limitations I had to think long and hard about this. I think I will purchase the figure, but my concern remains with the ease of getting that orange plug out from BBTS or if I should just eat the huge shipping cost from Action-HQ.

Megatron's main weak joints are his ankle ball joints. Pretty much all his other joints (aside from neck) is ratchet. Tight ratchets too. So when people having trouble standing him or him get loose and collapse easy, the ankle ball joint is always the culprit.

So what to do? The diecast feet is actually hard to disassemble. So not easy to pop the whole joint out and give it some superglue/nail polish to thicken it. But you can always rotate the ankle at 90 degree increments to expose front, side & back of the ball joint surface that rubs the socket, to give it a drop of superglue on the ball, without touching the socket or anything else. Let it dry completely, then do it at a different 90 degree angle. Eventually, you'll get a few hard nubs on the ball joint that give it a lot more friction, therefore tigthening the ankles a lot more. With this fix, Megatron can hold the Fusion Cannon a lot better without falling (though the weight is still there). Without the cannon, Megatron stand very well.

my megs has lost a tiny peg or two but they do little to actually hold the gun together anyway. overall though hes more solid than youd imagine. When you transform him you just have to be patient, its less like plying with a TF and more like making a zoid or something (well kindof!). You need to be careful when pushing/pulling at pieces, you have to apply pressure both sides to avoid snapping things. I wouldnt recommend you try to speed transform megs to show friends who around having a drink!!

Excellent Review, very cool. i must say though that your pics of all the megatron's together look awesome, and i am convinced would look so much better once we can get the Takara repaint of Classics Megatron in Silver and Black as well as the Metallic silver repaint of Megatron leader class which we all know is inevitable.. Onc e that happens my megatron Pink and Blue is going up on eBay..as well as any other normal Transformer releases from the first run movie line up.. i will love to have a completely metallic silver megatron collection to coincide with my MP Megatron, they will just look better togather...

Hi,

Just recieved my megs from bbts as this review was very helpful. His scope looks oversized and it't one hell of a transformation, but 05 is easily one of my new favorites. I'll have to pick up the rest of the masterpieces when I have the chance to. :D

I have a few questions, I did a search, but nothing came up and I'm sure this has been discussed so apologies in advance. If you could link me to that post that'd be great. The orange peg he came with seems to be in very tight. I think they may have used ca glue as I cannot wedge it out with pliers and have tried heating it with a hair dryer to no avail. Is there any other method to remove it safely?

Also I have a problem with the shoulder and arm portions connecting together (they don't want to lol) and it isn't smooth near the rear of the gun. Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Use a small drillbit (like you'd find on a Dremel tool) bore out the center of the plug, and you should be able to break down the stability of the plug and rip it out the rest of the way.

Also, when did you order Megatron from BBTS? Was it before October 1st or around that time? The reason I ask is, I have one on preorder and I need to know whether or not that'll be another bill to drop into my lap right now. If you got one (along with several others) chances are...people like me could be expecting an invoice any day now. =\

Hey thanks auto. I actually used a wrench and ripped it out lol. Took of abit of paint though... Guy who put the plug in got very glue happy... there was almost as much glue as there was parts of a plug. Still cleaning it... Stuff is just nasty... alcohol has no effect on it... :(

I actually order it on the 1st. I wasn't expecting it until December either... so expect to be hit in the wallet soon.

Again thanks.

I just can't justify him. To me Transformers are still toys, and I occasionaly "play" with 'em. Somthing that's only a display piece is not really somthing for my collection.

If you ordered it on the first, and you haven't already been notified it's in stock, I'll bet it'll be coming in December. I ordered it back in June and mine was ready to be shipped last week.

I ordered mine on October 4th, but their page/email said anything before October 1st would ship in mid-October. Well, he ordered on the 1st, and mine was only three days later. I'm hoping you're right. It'll throw a monkeywrench into my money plans if he comes early. Argh!

Another question.

Is there a counterweight or something sold out there that offsets his cannon?

When I put it on him he tilts to the left and threatens to topple over. For now I just leave it off. It's kind of hard to make him look menacing in certain poses when he has a tendency to tilt that way and potentially tip over lol.
