Dragon Wars
So, I went and saw Dragon Wars tonight. After seeing all the trailers, I braced myself for what would turn out to be Snakes on a Plane with dragons.
Sitting in the theater, watching this film, I got to say it was enjoyable.
Now, you should know why I found this enjoyable. It was unintentionally hilarious, some scenes were just so absurd they were funny, others were so stereotypical they were funny.
It seemed the director, knew nothing about America, and tried to give us an American kung-fu film. He did a pretty decent job.
Still, this movie was a Grade A B-movie. Blows everything sci-fi makes out of the water.
The acting was campy, there were a lot of plot holes. But it really was an enjoyable film.
The cgi was superb, the designs for some of the dragons were original and looked awesome as hell.
For all it's faults, I cannot say this movie was bad. It really was an Chinese/Korean legend movie set in America.
Basically, it kicked Godzilla's ass. The US attempt anyway.

I've seen the trailer on TV and pretty much went "There's a Dragon movie! MUST SEE!!!"
LOL.
I was expecting to to be a horrid piece of sh*t like 'Reign of Fire' was. Might see, but probbaly I'll just see it when it comes out on DVD.

I'll probably see it when it comes out on DVD. I thought the trailers looked awsome, though I got a Godzilla '98 vibe from it for some reason.

What was wrong with reign of fire, Apart from the dragons actually being wyverns.

I liked Reign of Fire. Fun movie. It took a ridiculous concept, and turned it into a really good post-apocalypse movie.

They could have replaced the Dragons with any other sort of monster and wouldn't have mattered.
The movie felt more like a scifi movie. I wasn't impressed.

You do know that; much like wyerms (pronounced worm) and drakes; wyverns are a type of dragon right?

Between Godzilla forums and here, I just love the sound of this movie. Awesome kaiju action, comically lame acting, and destruction. Never a bad combination. Sadly, I don't think it's on any screens in the immediate area.

Well, having watched Dragon Wars, and Godzilla: Final War(for like the 80th time), I would have to say, Dragon Wars gives the big lizard a run for his money.
The only thing, like I said before, is I'm struggling to understand if Dragon Wars was trying to be serious, or a serious comedy(like how I perceive Godzilla films to be).

A serious comedy would be a good way to describe Final Wars, but the Godzilla series as a whole? Not so much. Especially not the slow-paced snoozefests that were Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (though I enjoy this one) and Tokyo SOS (not so much), or the mythic GMK.
My opinion on Dragon Wars will have to remain on hold for the time being - unlike the TF Movie forum, I can hardly judge a movie I haven't yet seen.

Yeah, I think, and I try to lump Godzilla movies into a category that isn't "giant monster" and serious comedy is all I can think of. Godzilla vs Space Godzilla had a good story, not that bad acting and what not, but it had it's usual Godzilla moments.
In fact, the only category I can think of for all the Godzilla films, is just calling them "Godzilla" films. It says so much, but can't be truly defined.
