i guess i wanted to post this for those who arent invested in FP's dinobots yet. i cant recommend columpio enough, but if cubrar was your reason to dive in then you might want to do some more homework before you commit.

Thanks for the review. I am a bit confused though (since I am not familiar with these toys too much), Fans Project also has a Scoria right (not G1 Slag)? Is it a different mold? And is it better than Cubar?

Scoria is Fans Toys - a different company that focuses on MP scale figures. The people behind Scoria also made Quakewave.

Yep, I think the one released after Swoop is the unknown dino.

Swoop is next, followed by Grimlock, then the unknown dino. Snarl is last on FP's original release schedule.

Depends what you like. FansToys figures are MP scale and have a G1-esque aesthetic, while FansProject figures are more Classics scale and have a really sleek & modern (dare I say 'neo') aesthetic.

FansToys' dinobots are about 10 inches tall; Fansproject's dinobots are something like 7.5 inches tall (like the old ultra scale). So, yea... the two companies are operating in different areas. FP's dinos are more comparable to Planet X or Toyworld, while FT's dinos are comparable to GigaPower or Bullsfire.

On the other hand, they could be making a G1 version of Scorn, which would be :michaelbay: AWESOME. :michaelbay:

I got my non diaclone of Cubrar in today. I am very impressed overall, I didnt want the chrome so I went with the standard release of them. I love it personally. The only negative as mentioned during the diaclone review is the tail and how it hinders movement in the hips swivel during bot mode. Otherwise I give it an A+ just like I did Columpio. Both are amazing quality, I havent seen any QC issues with my two in terms of paint, joints, screws being loose. If anything Cubrar is more tightly assembled then Columpio was joint wise. The thing I notice immediately between the two is the sheer mass difference between Cubrar and Columpio, with now having Cubrar in hand, I feel Columpio should have had a 10 to 15% size increase to off set him as a dino and bot against each other for scale. Regardless I am happy with my purchase.

Now for the second dino bot line I am going to pick up its a hard call between FansToys, ToyWorld, and Giga. So many quality options, and only so much wallet space per quarter.

No I have not had any issues yet to speak of. Both look awesome and transform fairly easily. I try to be gentle with the parts when I take all the 3rd party purchases out, while I expect sturdy construction until I have messed with it a few times and am fully aware of the limitations I remain cautious so I don't accidentally break one of the parts.

It takes a little pressure to make the axe snap into the hand grip, so be gentle with it the first time or two until the rough edge smooths out some in the hands would be my recommendation. The hands definitely hold the sword, guns, and axe securely in place.

Some more pics.

Just thought it would br fun to compare Diaclone Cubrar to old Grand Dad here.

Also just a good excuse to show off one of the more precious gems of my hoard.
Got this on my tenth birthday at a comic shop in '85. :D
I had to choose between this and two Japanese packed go bots or a Diaclone Devistator box set.
I'm still happy with my choice.

Thats nice. If I had the older dinobots from when I was a kid still I might have gone that way. But my brother tore up most of my toys. I dont have a lot left from my childhood.

Wow, that is a pretty awesome thing to have. Diaclone Dinobots are pretty rare AFAIK.

I'm softening towards Cubrar. The tail doesn't bother me too much (especially now I know it can be unpegged from the back panels to free up articulation with no negative side-effects) and provided I'm careful I should be able to avoid what happened to Peaugh's figure (the broken axe). That said I'm still going to wait until all the Dinobots are out before I decide.

Something I noticed whilst transforming Cubrar was that the tail section could benefit from some lube applied to the teeth that join the black part. Mine was quite stiff and didn't move easily into position for robot mode, already some signs of the teeth being chewed up without much movement of the tail.

I'm hearing some people have got their retail version of Cubrar with red heads and others with black. I thought the red head was included with the exclusive versio. Unless FP made a mistake.

Mine didnt have that red head, the weapons were in a sealed plastic bag and the case and clam shell were smaller then what Columpio came in. The box cardboard was more standardized and less rigid. Packaging was a step down from Columpio but nothing to get upset over. If it allows them to make a profit and keep making figures I am good with it, the only thing I care about is the quality of the figure and in that area they got and A+ rating from me.

Okay, I got some pictures taken. I am writing this along side a similar post in the PSX thread. Here's hoping I don't confuse the two...

First up, here's Neptune and Columpio together:

Image
Image
Image
Image
That's Neptune on the left and Columpio on the right. As you can see, Neptune is much, much beefier in the chest. Here's a close-up of the heads:

Image
Now, on to the entire crew of 3P Dinobots, well, with FoC Grimlock, anyway. Sadly, I could not bring myself to bring in AoE Snarl to represent a Stegosaurus..

Image
Now, on to Columpio and Cubrar together. I am surprised at how big Cubrar is with Columpio. I think I'd have liked to see him just a tad smaller or Columpio a tad bigger. (And yes, I now realize that I had Cubrar's hands/dino feet mistransformed. Sorry about that.)

Image
Image
Image
Image
Let's bring all the dinos back together in beast mode:

Image
Image
Here's a mix and match shot of FP and PX:

Image
Back to just Columpio and Cubrar. This really shows how big Cubrar came out to be!

Image
Image
Image
Image
And now, not because I like looking at Dinobot rear ends (well, not just...wait...what am I admitting? :-s ) here's a look at the range of articulation in Columpio's neck and Cubrar's tail:

Image
Image
These didn't come out as good as I wanted. I'm going to maybe take a couple of more pics and post them later.

But, finally, here are Columpio and Neptune together in Dino mode. Neptune sure is wide...

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

And finally, the culmination of everything that is good and decent in the world, I give you this instead. (I need to Photoshop in some distended eyes...)

Are there any requests? Does anybody want to see a particular aspect of these guys photographed?

Great pics !

After seeing the two Brontosaurus side by side, I cant see how anybody would think Fansproject isn't a G1 cartoon homage. Planet X is clearly the "neo" Sludge boasting an unorthodox transformation and a "boxy" aesthetic. On the other hand, Fansproject sports an aesthetic similar to both the G1 Animation and the vintage toy with the extra detals that Fansproject is known for.
