I think Swoop looks the worst.

So, I got Toyworld's Snarl (Roar) yesterday.

I have to tell you, side by side, comparison to comparison, FP wins hands down.

Toyworld's stuff is good and Snarl will hold me over in the poopy possible outcome that FP doesn't finish. However, the FP stuff is far better polished, designed, and built than the Toyworld stuff.

All my FP dinos have been pretty much perfect in regards to design. The Toyworld Snarl is very nice, but he has a lot of little issues that take him off the same level of perfection.

-soft locking tabs
-difficult to transform parts (i.e. the hands won't roll out without an object to pry them
-micro scratches all over the clear parts

Just little issues where the FP stuff was nice and polished finished product.

I really do like TW Snarl. He's very good. He just isn't jaw dropping like FP Slag or Sludge.

I just got Roar in the mail today from TFSource. Havent popped him open yet. Wondering if I will have similar issues or not. I am very excited to pop open that box.

Also I never saw those versions before only the IDW/FOC styled. So my mistake there. Those dont look bad though either, another take with pros and cons to them.

Wow I never noticed how ugly the Planet X brontosaurus head is. Its got that weird looking storm trooper helmet thing going on with the back of its head. He also has that dino drool effect dripping from his jaw.

I have now had some time to handle transform him back and forth, do some poses and just study the figure. I would agree on all points, minus the scratches on the plastic. I didnt have those. TW Roar is a nice figure, happy with my purchase, my FP figures feel more rugged and polished though. I also wonder about the acids our skin builds up on our fingers and its effects on the gold plastic over time, makes me want to not touch him, which is not why I got these guys in the first place. Debating on whether or not to pick up the second offering the TW line of dinobots.

That's what Apatosaurus heads (probably) looked like, though. And in any case, it's pretty much spot-on to the game design.

i love the "sharp" look of the PX head. and yeah, it fits the game aesthetic obviously.

I don't think the Apatosaurus/brontosaurus had a helmet in real life. Also don't think he had pointy chin in real life. It looks like molded dino drool. I never stated the dino head wasn't "game" accurate. I just stated it was ugly.

OK, the chin I can understand (a bit) but...the back of the head? What? That is the most insanely stupid reason to decry a figure as "looking stupid" I have ever heard.

Cmon now, that thing looks like the back of a Darth Vader helmet. Why is a helmet on a dinosaur head ?

Columpio has a nice round smooth head that looks better.

It just seems like a silly argument to make as a reason to not like one version when we are talking about robotic dinosaurs.

(The tail dragging thing is more about pop culture surrounding dinosaurs than anything else. And I don't recall delving into hyperbole with the tail dragging aspect.)

I don't know if this will put your mind at ease or not, X. I took a closer look at Neptune, and it looks like that ridge at the back of the head is more about having thicker plastic (with some nice detailing) that goes over the neck and allows for some up and down head articulation on Neptune. It's more accidental that it formed a helmet look in the side profile. When I finish grading my papers and exams, I'll try to take a closer picture of the back of Neptune's head to show you the detailing. I'll also put that over in the Neptune thread so we can get back to FP based dinos here.

Actually, that's accurate to what paleontologists think they looked like now.



It's not as pronounced as on Neptune, but it is there, as is the shape of the skull that's leading to the "helmet" you're describing, which is more pronounced because of the joint needing to be detached instead of skin covered

Though it has enough throw backs and writer's contrivances that it can "fit" into the G1 continuity. In the game, Shockwave visits or somehow monitors prehistoric earth and is fascinated by the creatures there, particularly their power and endurance. (At least that's how I interpreted the events in the game.) I liked that aspect of the fiction.

Not everybody has to like that approach. It's one of the great things I love about this hobby and universe (and one of the things I personally hated about Hasbro's attempts at unifying the fiction with whatever that was called, "Aligned" or something? Can't we all use our own imagination instead of having to conform? At least that seemed to be the message from Hasbro on Aligned. Perhaps I am reading it wrong.) We each can have our own personal cannon.

I was going to say something more on complaining about toys created for some of that fiction that exists, but I realize several of us have become repetitive with those statements, and no matter how logical, they are not getting through. I think I'll take NOS's advice...

Aren't the video games meant to be part of the Aligned continuity? Some sort of pre-cursor to Prime.

Getting back on the FP discussion, does anybody remember who was coming next in the line? It'd be cool to get a Stegosaurus now...

WFC/FOC is hardly slaughtering G1 fiction when it's already dumb as it is. It makes more sense that Shockwave would do weird experiments on autobots rather than Wheeljack creating them just for lulz.
