Today I was in my Walmart looking to see if they had any new shipments of Transformers. The toy department head had told me on an earlier occasion to ask for him if I wanted an update on when Transformer shipments would get there.
So I went up to the guy and asked him about when the next shipment was expected, as he had told me to check back this week. The guy tells me that the order is on hold or something or another and that I should check back next month.
I thanked him and told him I appreciated it as I was a collector and that his information was helpful. He then told me that he didn't care about collectors, he didn't care about me, and that he told the Hot Wheels collectors that if they didn't leave him alone, he was going to toss all the Hot Wheels and mess up their cards. He only cared about himself as a stocker or purchaser or something stupid.
Needless to say that I was very upset. I really should have told him off, but I really didn't feel up to dealing with dumb*ss-edness. That and he was about 300 lbs and six feet tall. Kinda intimidating to a 5'2" tall women.
I hate people like that. I'm so upset and furious right now, I can't think of anything to say.
On a positive note, I found Ultimate Bumblebee for my daughter's birthday. The fire has been kindled and now we can collect together. It's great being "The Cool Mom".

First off, awesome that you collect for yourself and daughter. Cool mom indeed.
Yeah that's how it goes. I go to so many local retailers and shops, that I don't really see the same employees twice.

Well, keep in mind that not caring about customers is (most likely)the reason that he has such a poopy job in the first place.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

Well that's just bad business. Though until he actually does something to hamper your collecting I really wouldn't worry about it. I'd suggest just not giving that store your business but as collectors the nature of the beast requires that we try and use very available store we can in search of rare figures, so that's probably not an option.
Also there's really no need to "tell the guy off" anyway. Other people's rudeness doesn't necessitate rudeness in return.

He probably had to deal with some Hotwheels guys earlier in the day. If anyone has ever seen those guys before, they are unbeleivable. I didn't know there was such a thing until I worked in a Target stockroom over one winter. Every morning about 5 of them would line up and run to the hotwheels as soon as the door opened. A manager would tell them to slow down every day. They came around a corner and ran over some female employee one day. Another day, one of them dressed in a red shirt and khakis (sp?) and snuck in the store room because he thought we were hiding the "good stuff" back there. They are unreal, kind of remind me of the egg tester guys from the movie Clerks.
I am sorry that you had that experience there, but on the bright side, if anyone thinks that their transformer collecting has gotten out of hand, ask your local walmart/target if they have any hotwheels guys in the morning. Show up, watch the show, and see how much worse your collecting obsession could be.

Mine was Star Wars guys. I worked at Wal-Mart for a year, and those Star Wars collectors are definately some of the worst. I, amongst some other bulkier male associates that I worked with, were constantly being called to "escort" the Star Wars collectors out of the store. I was never actually there for what they did to get kicked out nearly each and every time they came into the store, but if the way the acted on the trip to the doors was any indication of the overall character, I'd have to they were some of the most vile human beings I'd ever met. They'd go as far as to scream death threats over their shoulders at us once they were out the doors...
*Shrug*
Anyways... The disappointing point about Wal-Mart was that it was open 24-7 so I never actually got to witness the "campers" that wait outside locked doors. Just random gaggles of major jerks. Come to think of it... Since it was the graveyard shift, most of the people I dealt with were drunken college students or just drunken alcoholics.

Doubt it'll do any good. I was reported many times for swearing on the sales floor by customers to my manager, and never once did those reports turn into write-ups. Just went onto my personnel file as "swears a lot." Especially if the guy is department head, then it'll really do no good. Wal-Mart in general has this thing for not caring about their customers.
Wal-Mart is big enough to know that no matter how pissed you get, one day, you'll be back. Where is going to sell you a pack of diapers at 4:30 AM when your little bundle of joy decides to catch a bad case of the runs? Might not be for a few years, but you'll be back one day. In the meantime, Wal-Mart will survive off the rest of their customers, of which there are plenty.
And if they know you're a collecter like this guy knew, then he knew (Like stated previously in this thread) excluding even that one store from your hunting grounds may spell disaster for your collection.

Very sorry to hear about what you had to go through. I have gone through that myself from time to time. I just leave it to the ignorance of those that are not happy with their lives. They try to make others feel bad to make themselves feel better. Shrug it off and go play with your daughter COOL MOM

if you would have gone to the service desk and asked for the manager, and mentioned the "rudeness" he would have been dealt with, believe me!! i used to work at wallyworld for a while, they are VERY strong on rudeness toward customers!!! you might even been able to have the manager check things out for you!happy B-day to the little one too!!

First of all: Best birthday wishes to little lady.
Second of all: Sorry your experience turned out bittersweet.
Third of all: Never, I repeat, never tell the employees that you're a collector. Any leverage you had beforehand, is now gone. Completely decimated.
I learned that lesson quickly, with a Target experience. (My first time shopping there actually). Once I learned that they frown on collectors (and was told so) I kept my mouth shut and used every excuse in the book to get what I wanted. The same goes for all of the stores. (Although K-B and TRU pretty much have it figured out.)

The guy may have been a jerk but Hot Wheels collectors can seriously drive anyone crazy. I wouldn't take it personally.

It's not the Hot Wheel collectors that are bad but the Hot Wheel scalpers. Those little dinkies have gotta be the hottest turn around in all of toys. You can buy the right car for a dollar in the store and sell it on eBay for hundreds

No, really, it's both. And they both make each other worse. Trust me, I know many of both.
