Just curious,
Has it ever been explained anywhere in the transformer lore, be it comics, or mosaic, I mean anywhere... How Optimus Prime in the third season, I believe, came to be just floating around in space in that ship, offline??? You watch the flag ship get blown to bits in Dark Awakening. Then those scientists find him and save him before the ship is destroyed.. Anywho, I never had any of the comics as a kid and thought one day maybe that was explained somewhere... I know of no better place to ask than here with everyone's vast knowledge.
Thanks for any help.
Sooooo sorry i posted this in the wrong place. I meant to put it in the general discussion.

Don't worry about posting it here. Everyone makes mistakes. That's why we have mods. (j/k)
Seriously, though, the G1 cartoon and comic continuities are separate, you wouldn't find an explanation for that in the comics, unless it's a recent story by IDW, but I doubt they printed one. As for an explanation in the cartoon, to the best of my knowledge, there isn't one. When Prime kicks the bucket in TF:TM, they don't say anything about what happens to his body after he gives the Matrix to Magnus (well, Hot Rod) and croaks. It's not mentioned again until Dark Awakening, I believe. Maybe in the season 3 episode where Rodimus and Magnus end up in the Mausoleum? I am not sure of the title of the episode. I am by no means an "expert" on cartoon storyline, but I never heard of an actual explanation. Prime's body was just there.

In other sci-fi stuff they shoot bodies into space. I just figured they'd done the same. Anyway, there are plenty of plot holes and missing bits in the cartoon that you have to fill in yourself! Expecting an actual explanation is sheer folly!

Yeah, and they did shoot his body into space in US Marvel comic issue #27, Funeral For a Friend, so I guess that same ritual can be applied in the cartoons.

Re: Just Curious????
In Dark Awakening, the episode where the Autobots find him, not it's sequel the Return of Optimus Prime where the humans save him, the Autobots say it's a tomb that they built as a final resting place for the Autobots who died in the Great War.
This suggests that after TF:TM, and I would say after they defeat Unicron, is when it was built.
They never show it's construction but Ultra Magnus and Kup tell Daniel that they built it so obviously they put the chassis of Prime, Prowl, Ironhide and the others in it.
Hope that answers your question.
Never a huge fan of the cartoon but despite some shoddy animation, Dark Awakening is one of the best episodes. Wouldn't have minded Furman retrofitting that into his awesome UK post Movie comics set in the reign of Rodimus Prime.

The idea is that the scientist rescued Primes body from the flag ship "BEFORE" it exploded.

sto_vo_kor_2000 that was my understanding as well, although to be fair the animation doesn't really help. At the end of DA Prime is clearly in bad shape, one arm missing with half his face blown off, then miraculously in 'Return' he is virtually undamaged when rescued, his arm has mysteriously grown back and his face has completely regenerated!
Continuity anyone?

Re: Just Curious????
If you want continuity, season three of Transformers is the last place for you to look. Seriously trying to make sense of the continuity glitches will give you a headache. Though for Optimus Primes body being unharmed after Dark Awakening, you could blame the time glitch from that one episode where the Quintessons tried to take A3 out of the rebellion that kicked them out of Cybertron. (honestly surprised that no one has used that as the default excuse)

I havent because I see no reason why it would have had that type of effect.
Unless your just going for the chaos effect.

1: The one from RoOP is a clone?
2: His remaining matrix energy healed him... and gave him a new ship.... damnit.
3: The Quints fixed him up to use him as weapon again, but decide to quit and come up with another plan?
4: Maybe the Optimus Prime in DA was a clone all along, and the RoOP one was the original... which doesn't explain his new ship.
5: Kiss players somehow screwed with time and brought him back?
6: Maybe- you know what this boring! I'm going to play with my new Darkmount/Straxus!
Continuity Logic isn't dispensed in the cartoon, Fools! Only Death!
