Kiss player Prime vs. Alternators Prime

Postby bran10 » Sat Jan 12, 2008 11:55 pm

What's the difference? I know kiss player comes with a surf board, and melissa... It also has a more red color scheme, with differences in the other colors... Is there anything else?

Kiss Players and Asterisks are a combination of features of both Alternators and Binaltech.

They are completely made of plastic (except for the screws and pins, of course), like the Alternators. As opposed to Binaltech's semi die cast components.

But they are painted on the major parts, such as car exterior finish, like the Binaltechs. As opposed to Alternator's base plastic colors.

Well, I'm not getting my Kiss Player Prime out, but he felt very die casty to me when I fought with his transformation.

Kiss Player's or Altenator's?

I paid more than 20 bucks for Kiss Player's Prime, so in this case I'd say yes, otherwies I wouldn't have bought him. But Kiss Player's Prime is somewhat of a quirky novelty and comes weird accessories.

You are not me.
A toy I would love dearly might be one you out right hate, so it is difficult to give you a recommendation. I don't know what your criteria for toy buying are.

Kiss Player's was very uncooperative as far the transformation went (in comparison to Movie Leader Prime and MP Prime) and suffered some slight color damage. The toy isn't very poseable either.

I wouldn't have bought Kiss Player's or Alternator's as a stand alone, the mold is just not good looking enough. I bought Kiss Player Prime due to the weirdness and haven't regretted it yet.

No die-cast. But a good paint job that makes it look like die-cast. And put a bit of weight to it too.

I'm suspecting better plastics were used, adding to its weight.

I have both... For the most part, Alt!Prime stays in robot mode on a shelf and KP!Convoy lives in his box. He's a very good looking toy and would be nice in a display case or something. But from my limited experience with other Alts/Binaltechs, for actually playing with/transforming frequently, it's really easy to damage the paint on the BTs.

You are correct in your observations. These are also the reasons i was never a fan of Alternators/Binaltech/Kiss/Asterisk lines.

To sum it up. Chipping off paint job, quirky designs, lack of decent articulation for such big toys, balancing problems for some, gigantic kibbles that obstructs transformations and poses.

No! Now then, why don't you just PM me that info as to where exactly you can get a kiss player prime for $20  Hell, if it's MISB, I'll take the info even if it's an alternator prime!

Slightly off topic-
I never figured out how to make my KISS Players Prime's engine/gun attach under the hood. The directions are not clear where the connection lays.

Hey Storm:

See instructions below, hopefully this will help you out.

1) Prime's front end (all my other Primes are boxed up, only this Black Convoy is next to me & accessible)
Image

2) Hood opened up and engine lined up in position. Under hood's engine bay, there's a hallow semi-cylinder receptor & a raised rectangular tab to the right of it.
Image

3) Observe the bottom of engine/weapon piece, there's a raised semi-cylinder & a hallow rectangular receptor to the right of it. There are total 3 "holes" to the right, make sure you attach the raised tab from engine bay to the MIDDLE rectangular hole, and it's the only one that will fit snuggly.
Image

4) Another close-up shot of engine bay for better detail of hallow semi-cylinder and raised rectangular tab.
Image

5) Showing the engine firmly attached to the engine bay.
Image

6) Showing the engine firmly attached to the engine bay from the base of the truck looking upward.
Image

OK, that should do it! Good luck bro!

Cheers,

Wow! I personally didn't gain anything from that, coolpop, as I already know how to set the engine...but I'm pretty sure that took a decent amount of time and effort to put all that together. So on behalf of the dude that requested it...coolpop, you rule! :APPLAUSE:

Thanks so much Coolpop for taking the time to put those pictures together. I really appreciate it. Your pictures helped out immensely and made me realize that my engine compartment wasn't prepared properly.

The two black vertical supports (they're grey on KISS Prime) that span my engine compartment needed to slide over so the engine could fit in. I can't believe that I missed that. #-o This is almost as embarrassing as learning that G1 Megatron's arms extend after owning him for year. Anyway, I am happy that the engine is complete now.

I like them, as a TF fan. I like looking at them whenever i pass by toy shops. But not enough to make me buy most of them, or try to complete the series.

Some Alts/BTs are really good. Such as Skids. I know, the character is not that well-known. But the vehicle and robot design of the toy is impressive.

For the MP line, the toys looks really good on internet and pictures. But not so good when i held them in my hands up close. Especially for the first few ones. A very select few passed my "taste" in the MP line. Namely, MP Skywarp and US Starscream. Only. I'm hoping the rumored MP Grimlock will be much better.

I own 5 Alts/BTs. Of the 5, 2 are ridiculously cheap on sale. So i bought them. (Silverstreak & Rollbar, less than $9 each). One was not what i intended to buy. I bought Grimlock. But it turned out to be an old worn out toy, probably played by the little kid of the shop owner. Loose joints everywhere. Can't even stand up. So i complained and demanded a refund or exchange. The only choice given to me was a trade for Battle Ravage. I reluctantly agreed, rather than leave the problem hanging. I later realized, Battle Ravage, and all of his twins, are the worst ever Alt/BT toy. The remaining 2 are Laserwave and Skids. These too are the most beautiful BT molds i've seen.

For MP series, i got only MP Skywarp.

To each his own... I really like the Alt 'Vette mold, myself.
And I have high hopes for MP Grimlock, too...but I've been pleased with all the MP molds so far so I'm not too worried. Just hope his price tag isn't too astronomical.

MP-01 Convoy

What's to like:
1. Robot mode design very close to the G1 cartoon style.

What's not to like:
1. Grossly disproportionate truck mode.
2. Too heavy.
3. Too big.
4. Robot mode can easily tip over.
5. No realistic interiors for such a big toy.
6. No other companions that can match its indeterminable scale, except MP Megatron. Alternators robot mode seems to be too small compared to MP Prime's robot mode. But the same Alternators car modes are too big for MP Prime's truck mode.

I thought I already posted in this topic....

Anyway, I would suggest getting Alt Nemesis Prime instead of Alt Prime or KP Convoy, he looks much better. 8)

Are all Alt/BT Prime's engine like that? The engine bay looks hollow. Even with the weapon/engine attached.

I haven't seen a single G1 Prime that had proper truck proportions. And out of all the Masterpieces - MP Prime is the most stable from not tipping over. He is built like a rock. It is too bad that more Transformers couldn't be crafted like him. Perhaps you were handling a broken MP Prime, which gave you the feeling that he tips over easily. It's ironic that you like MP Skywarp the best because he is less stable. He can barely stand on his own and he is not nearly as poseable as MP Prime.

Regarding interiors - I think Takara/Hasbro traded Prime's realistic truck interior for the chest matrix, which I pretty happy with. In my mind, the Matrix and his chest compartment opening is more memorable and iconic than his truck interior. I think the omission of MP Prime's interior is a small price to pay compared to the huge tail fins that stick out the MP jets in robot mode.

Even though I enjoy all the Masterpieces none of them are perfect. However, I feel that MP Prime has the most to offer.
