Memories of 80's cartoons..toys..etc..
I am sitting here watching Teletoon retro this morning..they are airing He-Man..Thundercats..G.I. Joe etc..
My nostalgic meter is at a all time high at the moment..
As I watch these cartoons I can't help but think back to the "innocent days" of my youth..I remember buying he-man bedsheets, toys etc..yes we were a bit spoiled as kids..
I still have my toys from my youth stored away in boxes in the garage..
What does everyone else recall from that era?
Does anyone remember the massive toy displays at toy stores? I reside in Canada and we had some really huge moms and pops toy stores were (well at least one really big one) and they had all these great action figures..
I thought I'd start this thread to job everyone's memories and get an idea for what everyone else remembered from that time..
Does anyone remember the lunch pails? The Halloween costumes..

Some of my fondest memories are from the 80's..
The toys
The toons
Waking up on Saturday mornings and watching cartoons till 12 then going out to play with my neighborhood friends..
The innocence of it all..
Aaaaaah..

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Re: Memories of 80's cartoons..toys..etc..
You got that right man..watching cartoons and having cereal then going out with friends to play..haha..innocence for sure..
I really think the cartoons of yesteryear were a lot better than what these kids have now..NO WONDER everything is being remade from back in the day..
Does anyone remember collecting all sorts of sticker books that were available at corner stores and purchasing pack after pack to collect all the stickers..
Does anyone have old pictures of their toy set up?
I might have some..will have to do some hunting..
I also remember purchasing those plastic Halloween costumes, the ones that would pinch and pull your hair..

Re: Memories of 80's cartoons..toys..etc..
For me, it's interesting that my life has been centered around Transformers and GI Joe but I wasn't there for the peak of their popularity. While I was born in 1984, I remember playing with them around 1988 or 1989, missing a lot of the iconic toys.
I was really into those neon GI Joe toys. In hindsight, they are terrible looking but I loved them as a kid.
I saw a lot of GI Joe and Transformers cartoons thanks to my grandfather taping those episodes.

For me my memories of cartoons of the 80s usually revolves around holidays and heat. Like sitting in a hotel room watching Dinosaucers on a cheap TV with the door open to the back section of the property, 31 C odd degrees outside killing time till we went to my uncle and aunty's farm for Christmas day.
My TF memory that's the most vivid is being at my uncle's place, in an even hotter climate, watching Dark Awakening with my brother and male cousins while my uncle and dad and other male adult relatives argued over how much petrol was needed to get the BBQ going...
I feel very sorry for kids these days, 20 years from now, their memories of hotel Christmas holidays away and middle of the summer BBQs will be marred with Spongebob and other drawn profanities. Hopefully TF:P and future TF installments can help them.

I just found Qubo Night Owl on Cable not too long ago playing He-Man, She-Ra, and BraveStarr.
I realized that I hadn't actually watched He-Man in a long time, so I sat down to enjoy it and as soon as I heard the opening theme, for just a second I was an 8 year old kid again in Germany.
It's amazing what sense memories things like this can bring back.

Re: Memories of 80's cartoons..toys..etc..
Yeah when theme songs start - whether it be Thundercats, Tranformers etc..you do feel like a kid for a second or so and then you start to think back..
Whenever I'm watching these old school cartoons I just keep having random memories pop into my head..like old friends, what I used to do when these shows were on, how I collected whatever toy I could get my hands on or play set etc..
Does anyone still have their 80's toys from their youth? I have mine tucked away in boxes in the garage..I peeked in there briefly last year but have yet to pull them out after what seems over decades of storage..
I also remember Halloween whenever I watch these old cartoons, particularly because those cheap plastic costumes were a must when you were a kid back then..you had to have them..and I bought various ones as a kid..

I have all of the G1 TF line displayed in my den. I have tons of Joes and their vehicles, He Man and other assorted toy lines in boxes.

My favorites were Mask and Dino Riders. I remember playing with them so hard that quite a few of them had to be superglued back together. Ahh, fond memeroies indeed.
I also never missed Robotech but for some reason I was never able to get any of the toys from that line, and the Yamato Valkries are just too damn expensive.

Every time the theme song hits for those old shows, I'm a kid on Saturday morning watching them in pajamas and eating a bowl of cereal before going out. Memories... *Sigh*
I've got a lot of my old G1 toys and even a Robotech Zentraedi(sp) mech.

Man, I miss the '80's!! Saturday mornings just aren't the same like they use to be. I'm happy the HUB is showing Jem. I still got my Jem doll too!! I miss watching He-Man. I use to have all those figs as a kid but then my mom got rid of them all. I hated it!! Anyone watch TMNT or The Real Ghostbusters?? I use to be big into them as a kid too. The '80's was a good decade for me. The time when kids would go outside to play. You don't see that much these days.
Long live the Decepticons!! I love G1 Starscream!!

I watched He-Man, Transformers, Bravestarr, and so forth..
Yes I did watch Ghost Busters, in fact, I was watching teletoon retro a few hours ago and I was taken back to my childhood when I was watching Ghost Busters, I couldn't believe I remembered watching this episode as a child..it was the boogie man episode..I was just in aw for real that I would recall watching something over 20 years ago..
Does anyone remember M.A.S.K. or SilverHawks? Damn there were so many cartoons back then..

I vaguely remember SilverHawks. But I can say, I still own to this day a Silverhawk toy I got in a happy meal. It was a toy that you could use to see around corners. I use to use it like crazy to spy on my parents, hahaha.

I Think I would actually enjoy this. Downplay the "Magic" powers of the M.A.S.K.s (or get rid of them altogether) and focus on some changing cars (with actual props, not cgi) and I think you'd have something.
You wouldn't even need much of a plot. Bad guy in a Helicopter fight dudes in cars that fly and have guns. Explosions. I'd watch it.
