Can one really find Devastator robots for such a cheap price? I have awful trouble finding a cheap Hook.

I got my hook for 10 dollars. I also recently ebayed a lot of all 6 constructicons and it went for 30 bucks, so I would have to say yes.

My rule of thumb is 5 bucks for each limb and 10 for the body for the 5 piece gestalts. The only excpetion I would make is Vortex who can be a little hard to find.

Regardless, my point was basically that it makes no sense, to me atleast, for them to reissue a toy if one can procure a mint G1 for the same or lower price.

Interesting stuff. I can rarely find a Hook that isn't broken, let alone one so cheap! I'll have to look harder.

Oh, I wish I had known as I, until recently hapenned tohave 2 extras. :(

I do most of my shopping on Ebay and with a little patience always get stuff for the price I want. Ofcourse, when dealing with ebay, it is vital to have your max price, inclusive of shipping decided before ever ventring on there. Otherwise, things can become quite uncomfortable for the old wallet quite quickly. ;-)

The argument could be made for having something mint and new as opposed to 20+ years old with various wear.

The only G1 I have ever bought as an adult that isnt reissue is Omega Supreme simply due to the lack of a reissue.

Everything else is either Takara, Hasbro or Ehobby reissue because I want it new and flawless. I have a weird thing about owning someone else's childhood bots, I like to avoid it if possible.

I hope that Takara does focus on a more adult market given the damage to the toy industry as of late. Even though MPs might be the focus, if Takara is going to focus on an adult market, it would be hard to resist the financial temptation of more reissues. The molds are made, and have probably payed for themselves already.

I recently received my Predaking giftset, and the first thing I thought when I opened it was why there werent more gestalt gift boxes like this. I for one would buy them all.

That being, that as of right now, providing reissues for collectors is not Takara or Hasbro's core business, which is toys for kids, who probably have minimal interest in reissues of 80 toys. Hell, a lot of our younger collectors who are into BW and the unicron trilogies often scoff at G1 toys.

This could all be changing now as I have read that Takara is thinking o focussing more on the adult market. Then agan, that could just mean more MPs and not necesarily taking the time to remake lost/broken molds.

But yes, you are right on with the list of lost/broken molds.

Point to note here is that even if they have the molds, a lot of TFs will never get reissued as the original 80s versions are still pretty cheap to come by.

Taking your examples of Devastator and Defensor as an exaple. Most of the bots in those can be had for 5 bucks each with another 20 for parts to complete them. And that is going by ebay prices. A reissue would be much more than that, and hence, does not make sense to buy, or make, atleast not the way I see it.

Predaking is an exception as the metal Predacons have always fetched top dollar.

In a nutshell, it comes down to demand. The reissues we will see are the ones with the most demand for them, and most of these will be the Series 1-4. Anything after that would seem highly unlikely to me.

i wonder if takara do consider the rarity/collector market prices of toys and then reissue on that basis? If that is true then devastator is a prime candidate as the mint gift set fetches top dollar even by TF standards. devastator is a toy that has so many parts that pretty much all need to be in good condition to form the gestalt that i can see a big market for a reissue set as its not like buying say a single toy and being done with it, it pretty much has to be complete and in good condition which can be tricky and take time to find.

This is what I think of it, although I have the knowledge to seek out a %100 complete Devastator through ebay, I would much prefer a factory sealed set with all parts intact and pristine.
