Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum as a member but have visited as a guest plenty of times before, and have taken the plunge in registering with my first genuine question!!
I recently bought the 80s Transformers: Universe compilation, and am planning on getting Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye series soon. I'm really interested in reading the background stories around all these different characters, as well as checking out the awesome artwork. The question that brings me here, then, is surrounding the Japanese series' from Headmasters up until the manga-only series. These profile comics that exist for the G1 branch, is there any mention of these Japanese characters in there, such as Overlord etc? Do they have different names in these US comics? Is there a 'sequal' comic that might have all the profiles of these characters? I'd love to see some artwork of the Japanese G1 characters, especially those like Star Convoy or Super Megatron. There's such a dearth of material relating to them, and with my freshness to the comics (just started reading through the 80s comics compilations for the first time, only on the second volume!) I'm really interested in reading as much as I possibly can, especially about the Japanese series..as I don't know a whole lot about the individual characters! Any help here would be great.
Thanks!

Hi there, welcome to the site!
I'm afraid that there isn't any profiles for the G1 Japanese characters in any of the profile books to date.
Best you can hope for is to send an email to IDW Publishing and maybe they'll do a profile book similar to what they did with the Beast Wars characters.

Yea, I'm curious too. I'd love to see the japanese cartoons translated with the original voice actors. Heres some things I know from watching Youtube videos. Hot Rod becomes Rodimus Prime again somehow. Optimus Prime dies again (apparently by joining Vector Sigma?). Ultra Magnus dies. Soundwave becomes Soundblaster and Blaster becomes Broadcast (or somebody). In another serious the guy we think of as Powermaster Optimus Prime is not actually Optimus Prime but just looks alot like him.
Maybe I don't want to see those cartoons after all.

I have seen all of The Headmasters, Super-god Masterforce, Victory, and Zone; and I've read most of the Zone, Return of Convoy, Operation: Combination, and G-2 manga.
If you have any questions regarding Japanese G1, ask away.

The japanese continuation of g1 is excellent, plus it gives the fans a real ending not that rebirth crap. And the final series "Victory" introduces one of the greatest autobots starsabre and one of the best bad guys deathsanrus.
Total recomend to all who have not see it. (plus star dub not as bad in victory)

It's "Deszaras" (or as BotCon calls him, "Deathsaurus").ausbot wrote:And the final series "Victory" introduces one of the greatest autobots starsabre and one of the best bad guys deathsanrus.

Jim Sorenson's book, The Ark II, published by IDW Publishing, has most of the artwork for these characters, and some bits about the characters behind them. I believe it goes all the way to Star Convoy and Super Megatron.
There's also going to be a "Complete Ark" coming in the next month or so.
