Trek's Pike Picked
Bruce Greenwood to play first captain of the Enterprise.
by Orlando Parfitt Nov. 8th 2007
The recent casting speculation over the identity of the actor to play Captain Pike in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek remake appears to be over as it was announced today that Bruce Greenwood has secured the part.
In the past few weeks Josh Lucas and even Tom Cruise have been rumoured to be playing the original Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, but, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the craggy character actor is now confirmed for the role.
The 51-year-old Greenwood has appeared in many bit-part roles down the years, in the likes of I, Robot, The Core, Capote, and perhaps most memorably, as President Kennedy in the Cuban Missile Crisis drama Thirteen Days.
Star Trek fans will know that Pike, originally played by Jeffrey Hunter, was captain of the Enterprise in the show's pilot "The Cage" -- which never made it onto screens. When Star Trek was eventually picked up, Hunter was unavailable and Kirk was born, although the character was used in the two-part episode "The Menagerie."

That guy seems a bit old to play this guy.

I wonder if Captain April will make an appearance.

Witch would be a change of History ether way.Even if they say the the first captain isint Robert April anymore because we never saw him in a live action show......they would be changing what his age should be as reported in the episode "The Menagerie." Pike and Kirk are close in age [witch I aways thought to be a mistake anyway] according to that episode.
The guy in the pic looks like he's in his late 50's but Kirk in the film will be between 27 and 30.Thats almost 1/2 as less and nowhere close to the same age.

This movie sounds even more messed up by the day
Maybe the end of the film will pull a Dallas, where old Spock will wake up back in the future and Kirk will walk out of the shower alive and well
JK
a decent ending would be old Spock coming out of a coma to find out that the whole time travel thing was just in his head. And then Abrams wont receive hundreds of death threats

WHAT. THE. HELL??????????
Now, I have no problem with her, she was good in Beetlejuice and Alien Ressurection, and I reckon she will be a good Vulcan, both in terms of appearance and acting. But Spock has a HUMAN mother, not a Vulcan one. That conflict of his human and vulan sides was brought up continously in series and movies. It was a defining characteristic of the whole character. Unless this is a fake or a ploy to miss-lead us, all hope I had for this movie has just gone down the crapper.

They are either being run by people who know nothing about Star Trek or this will be a reimagining leading to a new TV show about Kirk and Spock
Hey they must see the success of the reimagined BSG and want to go that route

I really liked the original Amanda. It'd be nice if they could cast someone that looks remotely like her, sounds like her, etc. I can't stand it when someone looks completely different from the original actor.

True, but the new BSG had Glen Larson, the guy who created the original, working on it. That's why the new one is such a great show with a good balance of homages/new stuff in the mix. This... this ST film is gonna be a mockery of everythign we hold dear.

I have a theory regarding this vulcan mother business.
What if Sarak told Spock he had a vulcan mother, due to the embarrasment of him being half human. At some point in the movie, Spock finds out the truth about his true lineage, possibly from old Spock, thus creating a nice pre destination paradox.
Lets face it, that is the only way they aint gonna screw up everything.

Even if Sarak did that it would change history.........in TOS episode jurney to bable....Spock and his mother talk about his childhood and how he was teased because he was only half Vulcan.
