wanna start collecting

i see encore and takara and all different types of exclusives and brands like black optimus etc.

what's the deal with all this, where can i get the info, and what in your opinion is the best place to get them pricewise?


main ones i want to start are

soundwave and the transforming cassettes
megatron
optimus
shockwave

what exclusives and repaints are available for those?

Encore is just the name of the new Japanese only re-issue line.

Commemorative Editions are the American re-issues of a couple of years ago.

Then you have the Book Style Re-issues which are Also A Japanese only line of a few years ago.



Soundwave and the transforming cassettes
Best one for this would be the Encore version, unless you want the double decked American release. You would need to go onto Online stores like BBTS or ActionHQ to order them online. You might however be able to find the American release still hanging around Toy R' Us stores around you.

megatron: Only the Encore Release at this point. No American version due to Toy Safety Laws.

Optimus Again Encore.
shockwave : Sorry no re-issue for him. Ebay will be your best bet to find an Original G1. Or one of the knockoffs around.

It depends also on what, exactly, you are going to collect.

Are you buying G1 reissues like Overcracker's post suggests, or are you looking for all incarnations of those characters? Or just the G1 style versions?

With a hobby like collecting TFs there are a lot of ways that people choose to collect them
