Just finished re-watching this episode, and even though I laughed when the Decepticons were "drunk" from over energizing, I could help but wonder why G1 TF's respond to too much energon this way, but by the time BW takes place, too much can be deadly. Any thoughts?

I could be completely wrong... but as far as i understand the Energon in Beast Wars is raw and thus, quite unstable.. hence the need for the Beast Modes..
The Energon the Decepticons get 'drunk' from is refined Energon (and in cube form if i remember correctly) and as a result stable and fit for Transformers to consume in one form or another.. over consumption, as we see in Microbots, results in a drunken state..
...and i laugh like an idiot every time i see it

What you have to remember is: Beast Wars isn't a sequel to the G1 cartoon. As soon as you factor this in, all those little problems disappear.

But what about the reference to Starscream's death in TFTM, and finding the Ark in season 2?
Granted, parts fit in more with the Marvel comics as opposed to the cartoon.

Could have fooled me. I thought Beast Wars was shoehorned into G-1 continuity.
The Beast Machines fans like to throw that in the face of people who hate that and like G-1

Ok, let me be a little more exact: Beast Wars wasn't created as a G1 sequel. All the G1 nods came about because it turned out that there were people out there who had been Transformers fans since the G1 days. That's why things don't make much sense: energon being a raw material (would have been news to Prime), Starscream's ghost somehow appearing in the past, etc etc.

Same here. In fact, it was the crossover with G1 that got me to watch it all those years ago.
