Question about repaints

Postby adan » Wed Oct 22, 2008 12:32 am

Hey everybody,

I was wondering how to eliminate brush strokes or simply uneveness in paint applications. The problem seems to be more apparent when I use mat colours, less with the metallics. Should I simply do more coats (I'm kind of lazy and often do just one...sigh, I'm such a newb...)? Is it the brush I'm using? Is it the paint? Or is the airbrush basically the only way to obtain smooth surfaces? Currently, I use Tamiya Colors and decent quality brushes (not sure they're made of camel hair though). If someone could help me out, that would be great.

Thanks. :o)

Some of the pros and more advanced model builders can make perfect strokes, but for the rest of us airbrushing is the way to go. It makes a huge difference.

Thin your paint down and do multiple coats, it takes more work, but its nearly impossible to get an even coat with mattes in one go. Unless you use airbrushes of course

Okay, I see. Thanks, guys. That brings me to another question though. I was looking into various brands of airbrushes and I have no idea which ones are good. Testors seems to be a popular brand. How is their Mini air compressor (basically their cheapest one, the blue transparent case one)? Essentially, I'm looking for something that's not too expensive, but decent quality that yields good results.

Testors is crap...if your gonna make this a hobby...and want less mistakes. Iwata Eclipse. hands down the best airbrush ever.....but me personally i use a Iwata LPH-80 Mini touchup gun.
