LOL, I was one of those kids. I just wish my parents had photographed my face when I transformed Ironhide for the first time. I just remember being baffled for hours thiinking I was transforming it wrong and somehow the battleplatform joned together with the bot to make the "real" Ironhide. LMAO

Hah, I wouldn't of traded mine in for anything. It was part of the G1 experience and the figures will always being a smile to my face.

In all honesty, If I had to sell either all my MPs and BTs or sel all of my series 1 G1s, I would ditch the MPs in a heartbeat. Nostalgia ftw baby.

I see what you mean. I mainly appreciate TFs that look a little different; I think it adds charm and character, hency why I sold my Alts.

I've never handled one of these fellows in real life. Are they quite tight? They've always looked quite flimsy.

I got mine(Ratchet) before the G1 cartoon started so I didn't know about the "real head". So it wasn't much of a let-down for me. 8)

If you are referring to Ratchet and Ironhide, I really don't remember. Mine are err well used. I'll let you know when I get the Reissues. ;-)

I only have 2 G1 figures. Bumblebee, and Soundwave. IMO I would spend the money on Prime or Megatron. I loved Ironhide, but it takes more than a sticker to improve such a crappy figure.
What Transformer are you? (Movie)

My Results:

Ironhide

You are the weapon specialist. You are probably the only Autobot who doesn't give a crud about the humans and repeatedly asks permission to blow something up. You are very strong and big as well as always suggesting the BIGGER sort of weapon. You are also good at sports; mostly contact sports. You can be easily irritated and may have anger issues. You also have a huge truck mode. Sweet.

to appreciate ratchet/ironhide, one has to realise what the toys were meant to be originally: piloted mecha in the diaclone line. scroll down to see the original toy with three! pilots, the head is the seat.

http://diaclone.net/orid/dia037/index.html

had the cartoon characters been drawn closer to the toy modes (almost droid like with a flat screen like face) im sure that there would be far more fans liking these toys. I wouldnt call these toys ugly but quirky. ugly, think fuzors.

I love 'em. I'd be happy to snag them if I didn't already have both the G1 figs in reasonable nick. I'm of the group who appreciate them for being different, and since I always refer to toys over 'toon, if anything, the cartoon got it wrong - or perhaps just made the character models more upright and humanoid to relate to a kid audience. I liked how they were drawn in the early comics - again, the different body shape makes them 'unique' (or as much as they can be when there's two of 'em :P).

<edit> Oh, and Leo - if you are interested in getting them, the joints should be pretty good out of the box. I haven't had them out in a while, but if memory serves, my Ratchet joints are still relatively tight - although my Ironhide's looser through overuse... :P

You know another thing I really like about the mould? No extraneous bits. Unlike most other G1 moulds, all the weapons can be stored in alt mode. :D

That's the one I have! I never got a Ratchet or Ironhide as a kid because I had the black Diaclone. I though it looked way cooler in the black than the red anyway.

I also had a red version of Sunstreaker from that line.

I'm not planning on getting these, shelf space and $$$ are limited.

Reading this thread almost makes me want to get Ratchet and some repros!

Almost.

(By the way, for those of you that want the figures to display solely in alt mode... why not just buy, say, a regular non-transforming ambulance and outfit it with repros or a rubsign? It'd serve the same function and cost a lot less.)

Fuzors were DESIGNED to be hideous. Having a chair for a face is not a design choice.

Diaclone or not, I want a proper reissue ironhide, if they can remold the face of Bumblebee for a reissue, why cant they do it for Ironhide?

Because making Bumblebee show accurate meant changing the head. Making Ironhide show accurate would mean starting from scratch and designing a new figure. And you'd probably still bitch about the result.

Just to make sure we are on the same page, I am the same age bracket as you. I grew up with G1, I have a wide G1 collection, but ugly is ugly. If you can transform these molds and say to me "look its ironhide and ratchet" I will have to laugh at you. Sure TECHNICALLY they are the toy representations of these beloved characters but in bot mode, they may as well be machine gun turrets for minicons.

Lapse of reason is correct, Ironhide and Ratchet got shafted in the G1 toyline. But even with all that going against these molds, if Takara had taken some time and molded faces on those souless plates, I would have been happy to pick them up.

As it is, my G1 collection will be without these icons, they will be reissued again, hopefully the way they should have been.

Being in the same age bracket as well, yes, they're nostalgiac, yes, they have ugly ugly bot modes, yes I wanted them as a kid and yes, I'll be picking up their Encore reissues.

OK so they a bit off in bot mode but I will be adding both these figures to my own collection. I love the old G1 stuff as the memories come flooding back.

I would have thought that there would be some way of having the back of the seat split open and fold down to reveal a proper head but if not then the Repro labels will do just fine but is the face hidden in alt mode?

The takara bookstyle reissue had a remolded more cartoon accurate face. Ryan has galleries comparing both actually.

I am not talking about starting from scratch, I am talking about a molded head that would go in place of the chair thing behind the window. Try reading the entire thread before running your mouth.

its important to recognise that the bots were designed way before the anime representations were though out. the animators would have seen the toy and thought 'thats going to make a pretty lame cartoon character, lets make him properly humanoid and with a head' so in effect its the animation thats off, so to speak.

for a pretty cool update theres always the energon versions based on towline.

Do you have sand in your vagina today? Do you? Yes you do. Run along and ask mommy to change your diaper and clean that nasty sand out.

Now we've got the uncalled for abuse out of the way, maybe we can discuss like adults? Ok. Cartoon Ironhide, in case you missed it, didn't have his head in his chest. In fact, cartoon Ironhide looked almost nothing like his toy. And even if you DO think putting a sticker on the back of the seat would help, why don't you just do that?

Ok, you don't like the Ironhide toy. Big whoop. Why not shut up and let people who ARE interested discuss it?

In case you didnt notice, this is my thread. The topic is about the pros AND cons of these recent reissues.
I am aware that they would have to remold the entire bot for cartoon accuracy, but that wasnt what I said.

What I though would be better, was the nostalgia of the mold, with more character via a molded head instead of a chair face.

Last I checked, a debate features points from both sides of the argument. If you want to post about the warm feelings of nostalgia you get from these underdeveloped molds without discussing their shortcomings, please feel free to toggle the new topic button.

For this discussion though, you are again coming in short of relevance and heavy on sarcasm.

I own the original versions and they are pretty worn out, paint wise, I wouldn't mind getting the re-issues. I have been waiting for Takara to release the G1 toys back again ever since the rest of my Transformers mysteriously disappeared when I moved in 94' so ever since I have been rebuilding my G1 collection from E-Bay and BBTS.com. it would be sweet if they made Masterpiece versions of all the main characters with complex transformations and high-detail, hopefully one day G1 Metroplexe would be re-issued...
