Repaint/New character vs. "Super modes"

Postby Decatron » Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:58 pm

Motto: "This is your end."
Weapon: Quasar Cannon
Example- Armada Starscream repainted predominantly blue, toy named Thundercracker.

So why is it Hasbro renamed "supermodes" into new characters? Why didn't they just leave it as the supermode?

Is it because from a sales point of view, they feel the figure won't sell well if it doesn't stand out with its own name/identity?

Bingo, I wouldn't buy "Powered up Starscream", but I would buy "Thundercracker"

Interesting.... nice topic.. i like it.. I personally like the extra character aspect that hasbro decides to use.,.. but then again there is always the supermodes too.. like the paradox of Megatron being renamed as galvatron, and is a recolor which has his name changed, yet is still the same character???? confused yet?? I know I am... :HALUC:

Really it all boils down to getting a little extra mileage out of the mold. For megatron it is especial true. But in the case of optimus prime it way for them to sell figure if people didn't pick up orignal because once the add on figures are released people want the optimus prime to go with those figures. Great example of this is cybertron optimus prime who combine with leobreaker, wingsaber some didn't pick up prime the first time around so they released him with the plant symbols on him he was the same figure with a few differences. But people had to have him if they wanted to do any of the advanced super modes.
