Scale toy photos.

Postby Scaleface » Sun Sep 09, 2007 11:47 am

I've seen other people make scaled photos of the toys, showing what they would look like in scale, so I thought I'd try mine. This is a photo of the movie Autobots (plus Arcee and Megan Fox) done to scale, based on the size of the acutal vehicles and the toys in question's robot sizes. It doesn't end up exactly like the movie, since Ironhide and Ratchet don't end up as big as Michael Bay stated they were, but they are accurate to the sizes of actual H2 and Topkick trucks and the proportions of the voyager class toys for robot mode. They range from Megan Fox at 5.5 feet tall, Arcee at 7 feet, Jazz at 15 feet, Bumblebee at 18 feet, Ratchet at 19 feet, Ironhide at 21 feet and Optimus Prime at 28 feet tall.

The Decepticons picture is still a work in progress. Frenzy if 4 feet, Barricade is 13 feet at the head, Brawl 26 feet at the head, same with Bonecrusher, and Megatron 34 feet.

FYI the scale of this photo is 10 pixels tall is 1 foot.

Anyone have any of their own to post?

If you have a scource for that I'd like to see it. I only had Michael Bay's statement that he was 28 feet tall in an early interview here: http://www.latinoreview.com/news.php?id=907

Basing things on the actual vehicles, Dreadwing, Starscream and Thundercracker (50+ feet tall!) end up REALLY big, towering over Megatron and Optimus.

Ok, I think Arcee in that pic is TOO SMALL.

Plus I hear that Blackout is taller the Megs who is taller then Prime. Starscream is probably somewhere in the middle of Blackout's and Megs sizes.

I based Arcee's height on the actual motorcycle Hasbro's concept art said she was, a Buell Firebolt which is 194 centimeters long from end to end according to the Beull company web site. With the toy measuring 14 centimeters long it has a scale of about 1/14. Her robot mode would stand about 6'11'' tall. I know it's tiny, but that's accurate to the real life vehicle. It's only a smallish motorcycle. She wouldn't stand much taller than a human rider.

I know they depicted Starscream as a smaller robot, but an F-22 is very big in real life. In vehicle mode, the toy is 21 centimeters long. Since a real F-22 is 1890 centimeters (61 feet) long, this toy has a scale of about 1/90 scale and Starscream's toy stands 20cm tall in robot mode, so he would stand about 55 feet (17 m) tall as a real life robot.

I know Michael Bay thumbed his nose at the idea of mass shifting Transformers, but he's not horribly accurate anyways. He shrunk Starscream's robot mode, and enlarged Ratchet and Ironhide's robot modes, in an attempt to make them more the same size as robots.

Using the same scale as the Autobot picture (1 foot is 10 pixels tall), Starscream towers.

I think I also read a magazine that said Prime was suppose to be 33-35 feet tall. If I ever find the mag again I'll source it.

How can we measure Megatron's size? I thought his Cybertronian jet should be bigger and more powerful than a mere F-22... and Starscream's robot size, if done exactly to F-22's dimensions, makes him even bigger than Blackout. Are you sure Starscream's robot mode is actually that big?

The size in the Autobot pick just seems to be really off. Are the front ends of the vehicles really that big in relation to humans? Especially the Solstice.

Also I think the autobots' robot modes are larger than their disguises, whilst the Decepticons are not necessarily so, since their vehicle modes are pretty much what they use to attack as well. Whilst Autobots USE their disguises, the Decepticons already have a similar (not the same) body size to their vehicle modes.

Starscream is slightly smaller than Megs. They made his body that shape so he could be.

Edit the image, it is incorrect.

I'm pretty sure Starscream is meant to be very similar in height to Megatron. Both are taller than Prime.

I based Megatron as being 34 feet tall on Michael Bay's statement in an early interview. It's possible it was wrong. Someone please let me know if they have more up to date info.

Starscream's height is based on the actual size of an F-22 and the dimensions of the Voyager toy in robot and jet modes. It's possible however that the Voyager toy isn't 100% accurate to the movie Transformation. Thing is with a 61 foot long jet, and a robot modes that's nearly as tall as the jet is, you can't make a 30 foot tall robot. He's about 55 feet tall unless they did the Transformation wrong somehow.

I have saw the Solstice up close too, it's not as small as that picture seems. He's only slightly smaller than Bumblebee, but he is the smallest movie Autobot. Math and the dimensions of the car/toy put him at 15 feet tall, but Michael Bay said he was 13 feet tall. I went with real world numbers over Bay's interview for this picture.

Hey, but you know what, if you disagree with the scale I used, please post your own. I want to see other people's takes on this.

you understand his legs and arms have to come from somewhere.. compared to the length and the distance from wing to wing.. starscreams body is skinny.. which isn't the case with any of the other transformers. parts can collapse in. or even extend on their own when he transforms into the raptor. not to mention the raptors normal take off weight is about 60,000lbs .. but the raptors empty weight is about 30,000.. which is the actual weight without fuel, passengers, etc.. which transformers don't need.. which leaves a lot more space to fill while transforming.

Weapon: Switch Blade Tail
According to the official game guide, by Prima, it says the Autobots and Decepticons heights break down like this:

Blackout: 35 feet.
Megatron: 33 feet.
Starscream: 31 feet. (iirc, but I'm not even sure they mentioned his size)
Optimus Prime: 30 feet.
Ironhide: 25 feet.
Ratchet: 22 feet.
Bumblebee: 17 feet.
Barricade: 17 feet.
Jazz: 15 feet.

Frenzy, Bonecrusher, Brawl weren't mentioned for their sizes. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say Bonecrusher and Brawl were coming in at around 28 feet (because they were both slightly taller than Ironhide and Ratchet, but not quite as big as Prime.

Now, before anyone comes on here and starts ripping me apart and all that...it *is* in the guide, plus I'm going by memory. I only saw the guide twice, but I made a mental note of their sizes.

Some of the numbers might be slightly off, but not by much. I do remember the guide confirmed Blackout at 35 and Megatron at 33.

Yes it is. Go to the electronics department at Wal-Mart (or any video game store) and look for their kiosk (or endcap display...depending on the store) with the game guides in it. Grab the TF one, and it's in the first few pages, or the last few. (Can't remember which end, but it's not in the middle of the guide, that's where the gaming is.)

Something like $14.95 as well.
