Scientology coming...
I have very little exposure to this religion/philisopy/organization called Scientology.
I heard or seen this only thru some tabloid articles about Tom Cruise and to a lesser extent John Travolta. Much like an impression that this is a showbiz thing.
Suprisingly, I saw this Scientology group invading our area recently (starting last week). Seen them at book fair, malls, and even on the streets! These poeple wears a distinctive bright yellow shirt, so they're very eye-catching and easily identifiable.
What's this all about? What really is Scientology?

Boy are you in for a laugh.
Scientology is the single best example of how to manipulate people into giving them your money in history. It beats out even the mainstream religions. With Scientology, making money was the original goal.

Its a cult. Governments around the world have banned it. It was a fake religion created by L.Ron Hubbard-a sci-fi writer. Its all about money. The group has a huge army of lawyers. you should read about them.

Wikipedia to the rescue, I guess.
Here's something you're supposed to pay a considerable amount of money before you learn:
Here's something you're supposed to pay a considerable amount of money before you learn:
Xenu (sometimes Xemu) is introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living. Scientologists believe the alien souls continue to do this today, causing a variety of physical ill-effects in modern-day humans. Hubbard called these clustered spirits "Body Thetans", and the advanced levels place considerable emphasis on isolating them and neutralizing their ill effects

Scientology is just science fiction. They make you pay money to get in, and then tell you their crazy story. There is nothing to being a scientologist. It just means you wasted some money one day.
The Jedi order is all about beliefs and morals. It is a way of life that emphasizes peace and justice. A government run by self proclaimed "Jedi" would be one that avoids war at all costs; demands that criminals be brought to justice, but humanely; demands that law enforcement not be so quick to pull the trigger and always try to negotiate; and would not let anyone out of prison without serious rehabilitation, due to the belief that it is nearly impossible to return to light after choosing a dark path (which is apparently true, since a staggering percentage of criminals continue to commit crimes after being released from jail.)
Even science fiction can be a respectable religion, but only if it is based on beliefs and morals. Scientology, is not. Don't waste any money on it.

Cults isolate their followers from the rest of the world and brainwash them with radical ideas. Organized religion preaches from (whatever book said religion is from) and encourages it's followers to go out into the world and spread the good word. Organized religion doesn't feel like they have to hide from ridicule. They feel like they have a good thing and want to share it. But Cults fear the world because their leaders know that the world would condem them for things they are doing wrong so they isolate their followers so they can keep the followers under their power. Organized religion works based on faith. Cults work based in isolationism. I don't think scientology is a cult. Rather, it is a scam.DesalationReborn wrote:Bombus distinguendus wrote:its a cult

The Jedi didnt start the war.
Palpatine was the Sith Lord who was manipulating the Old Republic into having such a huge war in order to kill the Jedi Order. Which is why he programmed Order 66 into the clonetroopers.
Mace Windu was going to kill Palpatine because of that.
It's more on a "I have to kill you to live" sort of scenario.
And look what Palpatine did to Mace Windu? He sliced off his arm and Force-lightninged him out of a window. (killing him.)

Those were all extreme circumstances. And I'm really talking about the actual Jedi cult that many people have been joining lately. It is actually pretty close to being an official religion now. It will probably be approved because something based so heavilly upon morals and proverbs is very easy to take seriously as a religion.
I compare Jedi with scientology because both have their origins in science fiction. One became a very respectable cult, the other a joke.

Not entirely. The Jedi (The plural of Jedi is Jedi) DID fight wars, and fought in just about every major conflict in the history of the Force. But it wasn't encouraged. The Council forbid fighting in the Mandalorian Wars. (Which, in turn, led to the Jedi Civil War)
And, as a rule, enemies are ONLY to be killed if the Jedi has no other choice. Otherwise, they're taken prisoner. (At the same time, the Jedi don't believe in Capital Punishment. Rogue Jedi and Sith are either detained indefinitely, or have their connection to the Force severed.

Like I said, no other choice. Windu knew Sidious would manipulate anyone he needed to to win a trial. (Which is how the Clone Wars ended, and the Empire began)
