Takara Masterpiece Rumor Discussion
Re: Rumour: Potential Transformers Masterpiece Megatron and Cliffjumper Designs
- Weapon: Fusion Cannon
The more I look at this, the more excited I get. It isn't as beefy as Mightron or Despotron, but the overall look is more true to the cartoon, where Megatron was always pretty lanky. The legs look good, and there doesn't seem to be much extraneous kibble. I want to see more of the headsculpt, but as long as they do as good a job as they did on CW Megatron, I'll be happy.

I bet that if they give it a western release then it will be in stupid bright colours like CLassics Megs and the planned but never released "Lava Megatron"

I severely doubt he'll see a hasbro release at all. If they were to release anything, they would likely pull from the (safe) options already in front of them.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

When did anyone say this would never happen? I thought it was just that Hasbro wouldnt release a realistic gun megatron in the US. That will never ever happen.
As recently as that last Platinum Megatron/Prime set, people have claimed that there'd never be a gun mode Megatron again. When Megatron figures are shown that do not turn into guns, like the G1 tank Megatron from Generations, some people lament that it's not really an accurate Megatron because it doesn't turn in to a gun; the common retort to this is that there's never going to be gun mode Megatrons again.

People on both sides are mincing words and the primary argument was Hasbro in all of this. This isnt a Hasbro release so its not part of the argument.

I hope they work something out eventually. And although I find it unlikely, because Porsche is being such a stickler about this, MP Bumblebee gives me hope. No one thought that would happen, either.
EDIT: And, hey, if they can reach some deal, maybe that'll green light an actual licensed MP Cliffjumper.

Well, I'm not mincing words with you or anyone else, and you are right on one thing: Hasbro is not a part of MY argument. My argument was that people say a gun Megatron can't happen again, and yet, it looks like there's one coming. You brought up Hasbro, not me, and you don't really get to define the argument I'm making. I was saying that in general, people say this figure will never happen. You're limiting that to Hasbro, which is not part of my original statement at all.
But I'm not trying to argue this. I was more making a statement.
Regardless, I think this figure looks good, and I'm glad it looks like more MP Decepticons coming along. I'll probably pass on Megatron, because while people certainly do hate it, I've never really found any problems with the original version, and I never went for an MP-10, so the scale is not really a thing for me.
Come to think of it, the original MP Megatron was one of those things that you'd "never" be able to get in the US without the orange plug, but I got one that never had that plug. And that was "never" supposed to happen because of customs and import rules; Hasbro was never involved.

Dear Death, have you ever thought of doing retro reviews? Since you started, toys have been ok to great for the most part (was there ever a review resulting in less than 5 as a score?). It would be fun to see your feelings towards MP Megs.

I hope it's real and I hope the fusion cannon can go on the side of his arm and not just the top.

They have inside info on what Takara is going to do. Now that many of the more well known unlicensed product brands have their own MP style ecosystems, they rush and try to get their own product out before the official piece is announced. That's basically all there is to it and why you see these spurts of the same character in the same style being announced by multiple brands.Cyberpath wrote:I don't understand why the 3P make "MP" of characters that Takara is very likely to make. And somehow all the 3P companies always seem to work on the same characters at the same time. It doesn't bother me I just find it curious. (I'm surprised Takara doesn't do anything about it though. Some of those 3P figures look pretty convincing lately.) And yet none of them attempt to redo Red Alert.
Anyhow, if this is legit, neat! I need to get that 5G at some point here.

Thou flattereth me, sir - but whoever said that doesn't work?
As it happens, I DO have the original Masterpiece Megatron, and I have considered retro reviews. The thing is with MP Megs, his transformation is so dang complicated I'd have to spend 20 minutes on that alone! And while I may be immortal, not very many others are - and really long demonstrations of transformations tend to try the patience of viewers. Still, with judicious editing, it may be tolerable. And since I judge stuff all the time, who knows?
It's true that my average scores tend to lean higher - but that's because I usually don't bother obtaining figures that I don't really want. And something that I want has to REALLY disappoint me out of the box to get below 6.
Though I have scored low in the past - head over to my channel and check out my reviews of Black Series IG-88, Poo Dough, Supreme Dalek, and the 12 inch Flametrooper. And off the top of my head? Despite the really, really REALLY intricate transformation, MP megs would probably get a 5....
