Good point. BUT they've done redecos with the other Lamborghini's, so maybe not?Kurona wrote:Actually, come to think of it... if Lamborghini apparently are so anal about accuracy that they wouldn't allow a chromed spoiler, would that interfere with redeco potential?

What more would you have to do other than what's been done for Red Alert and Clampdown?

Not as long as the colours are believable. The previous lambor redecos are good examples of the redeco potential this mold has.

My understanding, which is based on poor Japanese, misremembered information, beer-induced dreams, and the time I shook hands with Derrick Wyatt and stole some of his power, is that Lambourghini have a questionably-defined policy of not allowing their cars to be represented in an "inelegant" light.

Fortunately the only existing redecos of Susntreaker are the red Spin-Out and the unnamed but completely awesome police deco, both from Diaclone. And given we've had a red Lambo and a police Lambo as well, then it SHOULD in theory be OK for them to do both decos.

The police deco does have a name, but it's the uncreative "Sunstreaker Police Type".Black Hat wrote:Fortunately the only existing redecos of Susntreaker are the red Spin-Out and the unnamed but completely awesome police deco, both from Diaclone.

Hmm, that makes me wonder if that won't be a source of trepidation for Takara; like they wouldn't want to release Spin-Out since retailers might have the attitude of "Isn't this just Lambor? We already stocked him a few years back."
It's not likely, since the retailer-creator relationship in Japan is more of a healthy one than the Western model, but something to think on.

so, the more I look at the pics, and the more I've fiddled with my Sunsurge figure this weekind, the more I hope Maketoys or Fans Toys will come out with an MP Sunstreaker. I just don't feel that either of theses two molds have nailed it. Something, though I can't put a finger on it, just seems lacking.
I also now really, really want an updated MP Sideswipe.

I know they're not necessarily representative products of their lines as a whole but I love that you have the two extremes of the design philosophy there: FansToys Lupus, who is so basic and detail-phobic that it makes this Sunstreaker look cluttered, and MakeToys Contactshot, where the designer pulled additional tech detailing out of their butt because they were terrified at the thought of a gray rectangle daring to exist.

It seems rather unlikely that a company would make an MP-like of a character if an official MP comes out of them. The only ones I can really think of that broke that were Rodimus and Megatron, and only because their original MPs were so globally reviled (and in Megatron's case, also wildly out of scale). There's also that one 3P MP Starscream being worked on by I-forget-which-company, but that seems the exception to the rule and possibly a response to recent criticism of MP-03/11.
There've also been the occasional MP Optimus, but different versions of him (IDW, Studio Ox) and because he's a very popular character. Aside from that... haven't seen any new MP Infernos or Shockwaves or Megatrons happening. I expect the wealth of MP Jazzes and Trailbreakers will also die down if official ones happen.

This is the best Sunstreaker figure ever. A three way tie for best MP figure as well between; Megatron, Sunstreaker and Inferno. I may actually buy this Sunstreaker as a stand alone since I dont collect MP(except for MP Skywarp that was a gift), and SUnstreaker is one of my very top favs. Its beautiful in robot mode with all its Sunbowy goodness, and yes I am all for Sunbow G1ness, also an amazing vehicle mode. All with opening hood, doors, pop-up headlights, both car tailends for real Lambo and animation model and removeable air intakes. This engineering is up there with the magic of Inferno's ladder. I think they have a wizard on the payroll at Takara.

Well from looking at it and knowledge of MP figures so far, I'd say its safe to say. Compare it to G1, Universe, Generations, Henkei or CW/UW I will say MP-39 Sunstreaker is the best SS figure.
EDIT: Although, Henkei is very sweet looking.

Anything to replace Alternators Sunstreaker as my stand in.
Oh I am not doubting this is the best Sunstreaker figure, its line about him being the Best MP figure of all time that got to me. The fake parts and cartoon innacurate backpack already cost it some points over others (like MP Grimlock).
So far my list of top MPs is the following
5. Masterpiece Optimus Primal
4. Transformers Masterpiece Sideswipe (Lambor)
3. Transformers Masterpiece Grimlock (Grimlock (MP-08))
2. Masterpiece Ironhide
1. Transformers Masterpiece Wheeljack
I dont see this guy dethroning any but you never know.

I'm too lazy to pick a top 5, so I'll give you a top three.
3rd: Rodimus Prime
2nd: All of the other MPs I have
1st: Wheeljack

I'm thinking Sunstreaker will fit in nicely with the rest in second place!

Re: Takara MP-39 Masterpiece Sunstreaker Discussion Thread
Ok, perhaps this has been covered earlier in the thread and I missed it, but what is up with the $30 price hike? I know Megs 2.0 got a huge hike as well, but Sunstreaker is same scale as Lambo and the Datsun bros, who retailed as high as $90. I remember preordering Wheeljack from A-E for under $50 (A-E is the way to go, if your're patient with shipping). I hope A-E has him preordered for under $70. This price hike is getting rediculous--$110 from BBTS is too much to swallow. I am finding I will need to stop collecting TFs altogether if this continues (and it probably will).

Strong yen, placeholder price, all factors. There's a good chance he'll drop, which is what I think most of us are planning on.SpaceKaseJase wrote:Ok, perhaps this has been covered earlier in the thread and I missed it, but what is up with the $30 price hike? An interview with the design team for this figure had them mention how they were able to up the parts count for this figure to incorporate into it an even wider range of articulation than ever before. This increased articulation is most likely the cause of the higher price.SpaceKaseJase wrote:Ok, perhaps this has been covered earlier in the thread and I missed it, but what is up with the $30 price hike? Its not. BBTS puts preorders to cash in on a figure's hype. And to not lose out on cash, they put a high estimated price, while they wait for the real price from their supplier. They can do that with Takara products since they arent direct retailers (unlike their relationship with hasbro).
In short, its a made up price only there so that anyone going "oh man, this guy is awesome, I must preorder him right away!" has a place to preorder him.
