TF toys you DONT like that others tend to

Postby microclone » Tue Nov 27, 2007 7:04 pm

ive reversed my other thread question.

I bought BB 08 becasue I was intrigued by the automorph features. the car mode is pretty decent aside from the weak paint apps but im really not sure i like the robo mode.

unlike many TF his body parts are clumsily aligned, what i mean is that theres no pleasing flow to the overall form, it looks and feels very messy. compare him to an oldie like prowl or a newer toy like classics starscream, or even animation prowl, these all have a neat aesthetic, the robo parts feel like they are in the right places and directions. BB 08 is like a bunch of parts that didnt quite fall together right, also that head, sorry, cannot like that head.

clever transformation though but still quite clumsy. I understand those who love 08 BB but also those who dont.

He's pretty meh. A lot better than classic Camaro BB for sure, but not good enough to justify the inflated prices online. I got mine for 15 euros which is about the standard for Deluxe class figures in the Netherlands. To me, he;s worth just that much. I love his cannon/blade combiweapon and he is pretty sleek looking overall in both modes, but the transformation is quite awkward, with his arms being the most annoying bits. Overall, he's just a slightly-better-than-average figure.

he seemed to get a bit overrated with all the hype of the movie and the fcat that he was unavailable for ages.

Generally, my answer is Beast Wars. But I'd include everything between Beast Wars and Beast Machines too.

Cybertron Soundwave. He doesn't stay together in either mode, his legs can't hold his weight, and he's got more kibble than a 50 pound bag of dog food.

I need to wake up here.... when I posted my mind read it as toys I like that others don't tend to... Anyway.

I don't like Bumblebee or Optimus Prime toys. To be honest I am so sick of Bumblebee that if I find an 08 I will get it and break it. (if I had the $$ do that that though :( )

Movie Ironhide. Hideous to look at, awkward to transform, and that whole shoulder/chest area just isn't working.

Quite apart from the toy, I hate those lousy gas guzzlers, though I gotta hand the toy high marks for at least being accurate to the fugly vehicle. Other than that, impressive leg automorph, but I still don't like it.

Well I have to disagree with you. It's the second best of the transformers movie toy line (in my opinion).

I just picked up Sixshot. What a piece of crap. None of his modes really look like anything at all. Lame spaceship, and the gun mode is a joke. I guess his robot form is okay, and I guess that is enough for him to stand over dead Ultra Magnus on my shelf. But otherwise total letdown!

Isn't that just in the nature of the busy heap-a-junk Movie designs? I reckon deluxe Concept Bumblebee is probably the most screen accurate of the toys, perhaps to it's detriment. I like it, but prefer the classic Camaro version.

The transformation on Concept Camaro Bumblebee is very involved. I've got 2, so I was quite rough with mine in a bid to figure out the most efficient way of working the transformation back and forth. Well it gets quite simple after a while, and to the toy's testament, nothing broke and the joints all seem as tight as ever. It's a solid, well designed piece of work.

But I still get more joy from the classic Camaro version.

Well have little love of the movie designs as a whole, but on o more specific ones...

Cyb Metroplex, what an utter pile of crap, yeah he's reasonably posable, but that's his only real plus point, how anybody can like him is beyond me.

The Classics seekers (especilly starscream). The gun's are too big, they feel very childish compaired to some of the classic autobots, and despite their good posability, seem to be able to successfully pull off very few good looking poses.

I really like Classics Grimlock. His legs are bulky in bot mode, and the "hooker boots" are a definite issue.

Even with the shoulders not locking in ... still a great figure in my mind.

I don't like Movie Leader Class Prime as much as Movie Voyager Class Prime, yet my roommate just loves Leader Class Prime. I don't like Movie Ironhide or Blackout very much yet again, people just love 'em. I don't like Cybertron Primus. Sh!t, the list just goes on and on.

RiD Megatron/Galvatron- none of his modes look like anything but his robot mode in awkward poses. Just a piece of crap to me.

RiD in general was only "meh" to me, the only good figures being Optimus and Magnus. The car brothers were the worst though, they just looked awful to me, X-brawn in particular with the whole front of his alt mode stuck on his forearm.

I know people sing the praises of RiD, but I think it was the least appealing of all the lines.

Hmmm...there's not too many TFs that I don't like, at least of the ones I own, but the one that I see praised quite a bit that disappointing was the movie version of the Cybertron Scout Armorhide. I remember thinking, "I paid $8 for this, when a better movie deluxe figure only costs two bucks more?"
