The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread

I've only recently started to like the show. All the episodes that went out of their way to make the humans necessary were annoying. I don't care about the humans.
But, having finally gotten used to that, I'm beginning to love the Decepticon characters. Especially Knock-Out. I also enjoy the idea that he's a gay Decepticon. While his sexuality shouldn't be made any more overt than the other characters, I hope nothing is done to rule that option out.

I don't think he's gay, just slightly effeminate. Being concerned about your appearance doesn't mean someone is gay.

Exactly. Who says he's gay? He's a doctor, he's supposed to be concerned about the quality of his parts.

As I said, I like the idea that he's gay. But won't deny that the idea is based on essentially nothing.
Although, I wouldn't call him effeminate. Slightly theatric, maybe.

Today, at BotCon, a live script reading of "Shadowzone" (with an added scene and some ad-libbed lines) was performed by Peter Cullen, Steve Blum, Kevin Michael Richardson, Jeffery Combs, Josh Keaton, Tania Gunadi, Andy Pessoa, Ernie Hudson, and Markie Post. It. Was. GREAT!
Though, some of the actors stood in for some absent cast members. Markie Post stood in for Sumalee Montano as Arcee, Ernie Hudson stood in for Daran Norris for Knock Out, and lottery-selected fans were picked to stand in for Frank Welker as Megatron and the "voices" of Bumblebee and Terrorcon Skyquake.
The added bonus scene was of the Autobots trying to contact the kids from their homes (by that point, they hadn't found out that the kids were in another dimension and were thus becoming desperate to find them, resorting to ANY method they could think of), Optimus contacting Agent Fowler so that he could reach the kids' homes, Fowler calling Jack's mom June to see if Jack was home, and then June calling back Fowler once she realizes that he called her via a government number. Fowler was hilarious in this scene.
After the script reading and some Q&A, episode 16, "Operation Breakdown" was aired prior to its airdate. It was a very cool episode that gave us some insight on the history shared between Bulkhead and Breakdown, as well as exploring the personality of (and some traces of morality in) Breakdown. We also got to see more of MECH, which just kept me wanting to know more about them and their secret operation: Project: Chimera.

I have to say, at 1st I wasn't sure how I would like it. But I gave it a chance of recent and I'm liking it. Still want to see a TF toon without humans and everything takes place on Cybertron. I do have to say though, Transformers Prime has brought back my love for Transformers. And I love Starscream (like that wasn't coming, lol). I like how he is in this toon.
Long live the Decepticons!! I love G1 Starscream!!
Don't tell Starscream, but I'm in love with movieverse Ironhide!
Current TF count: 255 (and growing)

Beast Machines already did that. You can't get more mature and intellectually/philosophically deep than that cartoon was.SlyTF1 wrote:Starscream's Girl wrote: Still want to see a TF toon without humans and everything takes place on Cybertron.

I think they meant they wanted a TF series set on Cybertron without humans, and didn't completely screw up the characters beyond recognition.

Yeah. I think I was the narrator in the first episode. Of course that's a motion comic, not quite a full-fledged animated series.

Yeah, I was talking about a 'toon with the org. TF's set on Cybertron. I didn't really get into Beast Wars, and they're all animals, not cars and jets and tanks, etc. I love the animation in TF: Prime and would love to see more 'toons like that. Would be cool if they could do like an anime anime. Not a kiddy anime.

Right on the box, "Ages 5+." That's why the series is mostly devoid of maturity.

We have been asking the same question since 1984, and no one's given us a solid answer yet.

I was on our sister board TFW2005 I saw a Prime vs Animated debate (Prime won which means I've lost hope for this fandom) Now between the 2 Optimus people prefer Prime incarnation could beat Animated incarnation. I call B.S. on this because I've watch Optimus in Prime fight and frankly He sucks at it The only reason why He won is cause he's voiced by Peter Cullen.

Well, first off, an argument on the internet means jack-all. I should know, I've practically made it a career choice. Second, just because some people on the internet like something that you don't doesn't mean the fandom is doomed or whatever it is you're implying. Not everyone has the same tastes as you, so any deviation from them doesn't mean we've all devolved into chimps.

Animated Optimus would beat the crap out of Prime Optimus. He gets the ass kicked out of him in every fight.

I don't wanna start anything, but in regards as to who would beat who in an actual fight, if the two were to go at each other with just their basic weapons and no add-ons or MacGuffins, I'd be inclined to say that the emotionless war commander of Prime would most likely best the young maintenance bot of Animated simply because the former has more battle experience than the former. The most real combat the Animated Optimus has seen would be what went on throughout the duration of the cartoon's present day. With Prime Optimus, however, he has spent millions and millions of years on the battlefield, fighting against all odds for the safety and sanctuary of all life on multiple worlds. He has seen the cruel side of war up close and personal. Animated Optimus, however, only ever took part in battles that were of a much smaller scale with much lower stakes (AllSpark fights aside). If anything, Prime Optimus would be a great mentor to Animated Optimus if the two were to ever meet.
But as far as personalities go, however, Animated Optimus wins hands down. First and foremost, he actually had one! I've said this time and again, but Prime OP is just far too stoic and uninteresting as a character. He actually had a personality in the Exodus novel and was a very interesting character there. But as far as the cartoon's portrayal of the guy goes, he's just a carbon copy ripoff of Movie Prime's personality. Nothing original. He's only ever smiled once, and when he did, it just seemed so out of context. Animated Optimus was a three-dimensional character who started off as a nobody, but then was thrust into a role of leadership he neither wanted nor felt he deserved, and yet took it upon himself to step up and try to be the best that he could be. And in the end, he ultimately became Cybertron's newest great hero and with genuine evidence and creditability to boot! Not since the Beast Era's Optimus Primal had there been a series that produced a character who rose from the ground up to such high merit worthy of savior-like praise. I applaud Animated Optimus Prime: A True Son of Cybertron.

Re: The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread
^And yet he Prime version still got his ass kick by zombies, Megatron, Terrorcons Knockout, Breakdown and a virus. Just saw the new episode after a hiatus (Thats a good sign for the show) and it felt useless and proves why I hate Miko. And that whole Chimera Project at the end is cliché Yeah no way THATS going to backfire in anyway. Bulkhead killed humans and Optimus the sucktastic leader he is doesn't give a crap. Breakdown did but I'll give him a pass because You know he's a bad guy but why all of a sudden the moral dilemma I'll never understand.

To be perfectly fair, he hasn't died yet. And in a series that's okay with killing it's cast, that really says something.

So you've seen the rest of the series and you know the repercussions this episode will have?

Because she was mad that Bulkhead was sitting around because he didn't care that Cybertronian tech was about to fall into the hands of a bunch of terrorists?
DJ1107 wrote:And that whole Chimera Project at the end is cliché
So how many times have we seen terrorists reverse-engineer Cybertronian tech?
DJ1107 wrote:Yeah no way THATS going to backfire in anyway.
Backfire on who? The humans who have been able to stand against the Transformers, or the Transformers they intend to use it against?

It was always kind of silly that the Autobots would tip-toe around humans who are clearly hostile towards them. If they're shooting, they're not going to stop shooting, and pulling punches isn't worth the effort. If half of the major characters in Marvel Comics can kill people and still be considered superheroes, why can't the race of war machines?

Because he's sane. He was just saved by his fiercest enemy while his own teammates didn't lift a finger, you'd start rethinking your loyalties after that, too. And hell, that was without knowing Megatron had no intention of helping him.
This episode has an all-too-underused theme in Transformers that I actually really like; that the Autobots and Decepticons are more than willing to work together if they share common goals. You usually only see that maybe once per series.
MECH is actually doing a good job of proving that yes, human villains can be effective and even intimidating. I mean, Good God, dissecting a still-online Transformer, then using it's severed optic as a trap. You don't see Cobra Commander doing that. Hell, I don't think even the Joker has done that. (Though it does seem like something he would do...)
