The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread
Re: The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread
Also kinda with everyone with Optimus speech pattern this is why we need one more human character to just call him on his crap. Be all like "Dude drop the whole bible talk and speak to me normally I mean my god your not better then the rest of us I talk with Megatron in that cave and he didn't speak to me in "Holyer then thou" speech"

Yeah, "what he says" is okay, but "the way he says it" needs to be toned down a bit.DJ1107 wrote:Also kinda with everyone with Optimus speech pattern this is why we need one more human character to just call him on his crap. Re: The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread
This episode was AWESOME!!!! This show is AWESOME!!!
The Fallen reference was surprising.
I genuinely felt bad for Starscream, and got super excited about him joining the Autobots, like in Armada. Then, when he cut Arcee, I was like WOAH!!! Starscream is EVIL! I can't wait to see what else is happening, Starscream out on his own should be interesting. The immobilizer was also nice...BB's part was awesome. I found the "It wasn't that broken and I reversed it magically and now you're fine" line from Ratchet kinda corny, but the immobilizer wasn't really the "meat" of this episode anyway.

Kinda makes me miss Beast Machines Optimus Primal. Sure the guy was preachy, but you knew he was just off his rocker.
This Optimus Prime ... bloody hell, enough with the "wisdom". Bloody hippy!

Re: The Official Transformers: Prime Discussion Thread
All Prime's are kind of preachy. I was watching an episode of "Cybertron" the other day and he was delivering a cringe inducing sermon on Team work. It seems like from Armada onwards they have made prime to be just a moralistic spouter. Not sure about animated Prime yet as i haven't really seen enough episodes.
I liked "Partners" another quality episode. Good to see more of Airachnid. That fight between Starscream and Arcee was pretty dirty! Starscream is fast stealing the show.
The only downer again is a minimal part for Ratchet.
I wish they would just have Prime with his mouth plate up all the time. Without it he lust looks vacant or unfinished.

^ You refereeing to The Unicron trilogy Optimus at a whole or do you mean from Armada to Prime cause I can name a number of times Movie and Animated Optimus weren't all preechy. Also @YRQRM0 seriously? Your shocked that Starscream was still evil? The same M-F-er who tried to kill his boss, immediately took control when he thought Megatron died, tried to talk Breakdown into choosing his side over Megatron, Killed Cliffjumper, threaten to kill Miko (Which is the only time I rooted him on), Kept precious energon to himself, has a pointer chin the last continuity's, Rubbed it in about killing Cliffjumper, Freaking twisting invisible mustache to were you want to beat Megatron over the head to have him notice he was a back stabber, You didn't think he was still evil? I was the one that told everyone that this premise was stupid but did they listen noooooo.

Animated Optimus was probably the least "preachy" (hate using that word
), as he was young and was alos learning growing in his own life. Though, there were a few times where he'd give the typical words of the wise, like i nthe first episode when he's talking about "We're all cogs in the great machine" and Prowl facepalms going "Not this speech again.
".
As for U3 Optimus, while he did speak like that at times, he may be the only Optimus who's ever told Galvatron to "shut up!"
Though, with all the flak that Optimus Primal gets for being like this is Beast Machines, it did kinda fit for that one. Though, a lot of times, he wasn't speaking about wisdom, but more of ideals and mere sophistication. Like that argument with Megatron I posted previously. He wasn't trying to sound like a wiseman in that debate, but more like a compassionate intellectual.

Okay, maybe evil isn't the right word. But I thought he was really trying to work out a deal with the bots. I mean, maybe he really was intent on joining them? The conflict between him and Arcee started on accident, he didn't even mean to mention Cliffjumper.
Although, after killing/doing something bad to Megatron with the autobots, he probably would've betrayed them again and all, knowing where their base is.

i found the scene where he tries to cover it up, though.
"Who are you talking about?"
"Uh, no one. Who are you talking about?"
Too bad, though. Arcee was kinda smiling when they were insulting airachnid together. If Screamer hadn't made a slip of the tounge...
Antways, loved this episode.

Would have been awesome if screamer DID join the autobots for real and a bit further down the road (when the bots started to trust screamer) it would be reveald to them that screamer was the one who killed cliffjumper.
*giggles evily* Would be another major turning point as well as a great oportunity to show some more character development as they deal with the "news" of screamer killing cliffjumper based on their (different degrees of) trust towards the seeker.
But all in all the episode was great. The interaction between the charakters was fantasic, also this little speech screamer had at the beginning of the episode as well as in the end were in ways of storytelling greatly done.
BTW the new episode will air on the 6th of august, right?

Just gotta say I love the way Optimus speaks. His inflections, tone, and emphases are so brilliant and truly fascinating to listen to. I don't care if he sometimes sounds "holier than thou" because it is one of the qualities that really makes him stand out from all the other kid's heroes and role models in television these days. I think the way he speaks expresses an inspiring quality of authority with integrity, and burden-bearing as well which makes the audience, children most importantly, able to empathize with his character, yet be in awe of him as well. Children have very few good role models in media these days; it's usually self-absorbed characters with wise-cracking mouths. If any character in modern television deserves to speak from a higher pedestal, it's Optimus, cuz he's a prime, and he can back it up by his actions, and he's probably better than you.

Killing is just a permanent excuse for temporary problem. Optimus is above such behavior. He doesn't need to kill to get the job done. Killing just leads to more killing. It doesn't solve anything.

Killing is not necessarily evil. Sometimes it is a must. To stand by and watch someone go on a killing rampage when you have the power to stop them is evil. Think on Hitler people. Pacifists tried to appease Hitler to save their own skins, to maintain so called "peace" within their own territories- that kind of peace is temporary and a lie. As Martin Luther said, truth must come before peace. I respect the intentions of pacifists, but speaking as a former pacifist, I think they are truly mislead.
This is just a tv show. Obviously Optimus isn't killing main characters cuz there would be no know. Its not some huge moral choice, but rather writing to keep the story going to entertain people. If I were Jack I'd do the right thing and drill a nice large hole through Megatron's brain. But then the main Antagonist would be gone and that would suck.

It is the universal ideal of the Autobots that all life is precious and sacred. Even mechanical life.
This is especially evident in the G1 Marvel Comics, G1 Optimus (in the body/mind of Hi-Q) stopped Grimlock from slaughtering the most vicious of demons who had ruthlessly attacked both him and the Dinobots:
Another example comes from Marvel G1 issue #64, in which the Autobot Pretender Pincher states:
And in the prologue to the "Target: 2006" UK epic, Optimus give this statement about the Autobots:
That is what separates the Bots from the Cons. The Autobots are not tools of war designed for massacres and slaughter. They only want to achieve true peace and uphold the sanctity of life itself. They do not kill when it is not necessary.
The same goes for the likes of Batman in the Christopher Nolan films. He refused to kill either Ra's al Ghul or the Joker, and still came out on top in the end.
The fact that they do not cross the line is what makes them heroes. Otherwise, they are no better than the low life villains they face each day.
This is especially evident in the G1 Marvel Comics, G1 Optimus (in the body/mind of Hi-Q) stopped Grimlock from slaughtering the most vicious of demons who had ruthlessly attacked both him and the Dinobots:
Grimlock! I see your pain, but this is not the answer! Whatever the creature is--perhaps part of a race created even before us--it is still life! I understand you, Grimlock--I always have. Like Scorponok, you walk the fine line between good and evil, Autobot and Decepticon! Your mind is a perpetual battleground, your war a lonely struggle against your own nature! Give in to hate and anger and you lose! Part of you dies! But everytime you find peace, stay the hand that slays, you win! That is why you must remember that whatever shape it wears, it is still life. And life is the most precious thing of all!
Another example comes from Marvel G1 issue #64, in which the Autobot Pretender Pincher states:
"For an Autobot, taking life arbitrarily is the greatest crime!"
And in the prologue to the "Target: 2006" UK epic, Optimus give this statement about the Autobots:
"We are not warriors by choice. Combat was a way of life forced upon us by the war-mongering Decepticons. We fight only to defend what is ours and safeguard those not able to protect themselves."
That is what separates the Bots from the Cons. The Autobots are not tools of war designed for massacres and slaughter. They only want to achieve true peace and uphold the sanctity of life itself. They do not kill when it is not necessary.

Yeah, but don't forget, Sly also wanted Vince dead just because that character was a bit of a snob.Everyone wrote:Killing is not necessarily evil.
