And more English names.
Fennel (Formerly Makomo) is going to take a lot of getting used to. I mean, sure, it's the name of a flower, but there are a lot more feminine-sounding flower-names than that. Bianca (Formerly Bel) even more so considering it's already taken.

I wish I had found this thread sooner.
Right now I'm focusing on leveling up some of my weaker pokemon in Soul Silver.
My current party-
SIMON- Lv.25 male Evee
Quick Attack, Dig, Sand-Attack, Growl
DARLING- Lv.36 female Vulpix
Fire Spin, Payback, Flamethrower, Iron Tail
STEVEN- Lv.37 male Togetic
Metronome, Fly, Psychic, Ancient Power
ZERO- Lv.40 male shiny Gyarados
Twister, Ice Fang, Aqua Tail, Rain Dance
SUICUNE- Lv.41 Suicune
Rain Dance, Water Pulse, Aurora Beam, Roar
ROCK- Lv.53 male Feraligatr
Waterfall, Cut (unfortunately, he's the only one in my general party that can learn it), Surf, Hydro Cannon.
By the way, does anyone know where I can get a fire stone and a thunder(or whatever the elec. type is called, my mind just blanked) stone?
As for shiny pokemon, I have my Gyarados, and SAPPHIRE, a male Ponyta (I'll check his move-set and level later).

A FireStone can be won in the Bug Catching Contest, bought with points in the Poketholon Dome on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, or gotten from Bill's Grandfather in his house on route 25 by showing him a Growlithe (HG) or Vulpix (SS), or on Route 36 via a trainer call.
A ThunderStone can be won in the Bug Catching Contest, bought with points in the Poketholon Dome on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, or gotten from Bill's Grandfather by showing him a Pikachu, or on Route 38 via a trainer call.

Bianca is such an awful name. Sorry to people named Bianca, but it is. I'm more than a little disappointed with the decision to change her name, yet retain Cheren's name. Every other version besides French keeps Bel or a variation on it too.
I try not to complain, but in the time since BW came out I've become quite attached to Belle and Cheren and the name change will take a lot of getting used to.
Makomo on the other hand, it was certain to change I know that, but I can work with Fennel... I'll just call her Fenny.

Re: The Pokémon Discussion Thread
I find the 5th Gen pokes to be kind of a let down, but for some odd reason I went against my better judgment an put Pokemon White on preorder.
5th Gen Pokes I like
-Snivy/evolutions
-Zorua/Zoroak
-Sandile/evolutions
-Kurimugan
-Monozu/evolutions
-Kumashun/evolution
-Zekrom
- and a few others
On a side note..Regarding the upcoming Ash's Pikachu event.3 different sites have this event starting on the same day but ending on 3 different day's. The best thing to do is call your local Toysrus to get the correct date.
Toysrus.com has it being Jan 30th-Feb 5th
Serebii.net has the event being released from Jan 30-Feb 7th
Pokemon.com has it being from Jan 30th-Feb 13th

Well..I know that both PKMN B/W and 3DS have "just" been released and it is too early to speculate on the Gen.VI(IMO we'll have to wait at least two more years since we get the first 3DS pkmn games...) but...
I am quite excited about the whole "Augmented Reality" thing!!
I've played A.R. games before(e.g. ARDefender for iPhone) and I find them really amusing. Also, from what we've seen till now, 3DS has a pretty good A.R. system. So, I was wondering wether this awesome feature could be used in a JRPG like PKMN. I can't stop dreaming of real-scale 3D pkmn battling on my lawn!
What do you think? Could something like this become reality? Or me dreams are just way too optimistic?

Probably still quite a ways off before you could get (good) lifesize 3D projections from a handheld.
Though personally I'm against the idea of Pokémon moving to 3D models over sprites. Call it the old man in me if you will, but there is a special place in my heart for sprites.
Now, for the console battling games on the other hand, I'm all for them going all out with as much 3D as they want. I would like to imagine the hardware that succeeds the Wii being compatible with 3D televisions and one of the launch titles being a successor to Stadium/PBR etc.
That should be the next step, in my humble opinion. Save the sprites on handhelds, save the 3D models for the console!

I am a sprite-lover too...I grew up with a SNES(Final Fantasy V is still my favorite game

I am afraid that Nintendo has a different opinion... They've already made 3D remakes of classic games such as Final Fantasy IV for the DS, why should they keep their best-sellers in 2D sprites when "everyone" asks for more 3D?

The flaw with that argument is that Nintendo is not responsible in any way for Squeenix remaking FF4 and other games in 3D, and despite being a property of Nintendo, Pokémon is developed by GameFreak and Creatures.
And given the hardware capabilities of the DS, the move to 3D models could have already been made. Instead, the only 3D influence has been in the field construction and mini games. Also, 2D continues to be in wide and common use in modern video games, particularly on the handheld consoles.
What's good news for the survival of sprites on the 3DS is that the 3D effect can still be accomplished with 2D layers, like an old fashioned holofoil, and with the geek culture's continued love of comic books and animation I can't imagine beautifully drawn 2D panels and game sprites going anywhere any time soon.

By "they" I mean game producers/publishers in general, not only Nintendo.

I am not quite sure about it. Even the games for smartphones(which are not "hardcore" gaming devices like the handheld consoles) tend to be 3D, with the exceptions of various puzzle and arcade games. Of course, you may be right after all...

Paper Mario. Just putting that out there.

If "they" listened to what "everyone" wanted, every game would be a clone of Halo or GTA. If popularity determined what games are supposed to look like, the industry would have stagnated decades ago.
Also according to this, Iris is going to keep her name, and Dent is going to be renamed Cilan. Though this could change.

Generally, you are right. But, what I am trying to say is that PKMN going 3D is quite possible(although, they are traditionally 2D) since 3D is the new "trend". Something similar happened to Mario back in the days of N64, when they rejected the classic 2D platform gameplay for a 3D one, because 3D games were considered to be "must" and the hardware of the new console was capable of something like that.
Anyway, I hope that both you and Tekka turn out to be right after all, since I prefer 2D for games like PKMN, and various 3D features to be just extras.

The original definition of 3D (X, Y, and Z-axis) was never considered a "must." It's why the 2D Castlevania games are considered superior to Lament of Innocence and the like. It's why Pokemon never fully made the switch outside of side games.
The current definition of 3D (pop out of the screen) is a gimmick that I'm very surprised hasn't died yet.

Sorry, but I disagree. Since the mid-90's and especially after the release of consoles like N64 and PSX(or PSone or whatever..) the majority of the well-known, best-selling games series went 3D(Mario, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Mortal Kombat etc). Also, most of the games produced since then followed the 3D way. Games like Castlevania and Street Fighter were the exceptions.
From my point of view, this happened because this was the VG companies' way to:
1. make games more appealing to the general, and especially the younger, audience
2. prove that they were technologically advanced and up-to-date.
It's why Pokemon never fully made the switch outside of side games.
In my opinion, the reason why Pokemon remained 2D is that DS isn't actually capable of real 3D graphics(polygons etc). The various "3D" games released for DS use a sprite/pseudo-3D hybrid technology. I, also, suspect that there would be a storage problem with the DS cartridge, since Pokemon, although it is a 2D sprite game, is already huge. I'm just saying...
Anyway..I think we've gone a bit off topic...
Back to the Pokemon discussion. During an investor meeting of Nintendo, it was confirmed that there are 3DS and Wii Pokemon titles in development.

Also, we learned that Pokemon Typing for DS(a B/W spin-off) will be released in April in Japan. Not much info are known about this game. We just know it will be accompanied by a bluetooth keyboard.

The DS is capable of polygon-style graphics. You might recall one of the launch titles was a remake of Super Mario 64, which actually had superior graphics to the original.

Shadowman is correct, the DS already supports 3D graphics. It already has things like Starfox: Command, and Transformers ROTF and TFTM games under its belt.

We are a mere three weeks away from the western launch of Black and White, and at the risk of my pleas falling on deaf ears again, are there any Seibertronians getting the game(s) who would like to exchange friend codes for trading and battling?

I'm getting white...but I won't be able to until June. I was going to preorder it in December, but then there was a problem with me having a vaguely defined wad of cash that ended up being smaller than I had estimated and a horrible tendency to act on impulse in these situations.

Hey! Sorry for not posting here in while.
Honestly, does anybody here agree that the Pokemon creators are starting to lose their creativity? It seems like they've made everything into a Pokemon now. I wouldn't be surprised if they went on a hiatus for a little while to gain some new ideas. What do you think?

Hahaha, No.
Six hundred and whatever doesn't even come close to "everything," not to mention you can get a lot of mileage out of the same creature/object/plant/etc (i.e. Alakazam, Ninetails, and Zoroark are all foxes, but beyond that aren't at all similar)
I'm surprised we have yet to get a cockroach, maggot/fly, earwig, dolphin, wolf, peacock, koala, flamingo, mosquito, and a ton of obvious dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and other Mesozoic reptiles.

I wouldn't really consider Alakazam a fox but I see your point.
That being said, with all the Dinosaur-esque types they've used I have yet to get sick of them.
