Titans Return: Triggerhappy and Quake.

I'm not sure if there was any extensive discussions regarding these 2 figures in the Titans Return thread, and I don't want to read through a lot of the old pages, so I made this thread.

I noticed, especially during the recent fan voting, that Triggerhappy is a very popular figure. I agree that he is one of the best deluxes, but I was surprised just how loved he is. But why? Is it the mold? The accessories? Why is he liked so much?

On the other hand, I have rarely heard anything about Quake, a figure which appeals to me very much. He is a repaint, but I think he is much more appealing than Hardhead. IMO, he has a better color scheme, even if the mold didn't change, and if the mold actually more accurate to Hardhead than Quake. So is Quake overlooked because he wasn't a prominent character to begin with, and on top of that his figure is a simple repaint with no remolding?

I think its because of how innovative the transformation is on one while the other is a redeco. The biggest thing about Transformers toys, is that they transform so the transformation will always be the highlight. There is nothing memorable about transforming Quake if you already transformed Hardhead so all he has going for himself from the first time you get him is the deco. It is a stunning and perfect deco, as good as any exclusive that may have cost 3 times the retail price. But its just a nice deco. Triggerhappy is the first of this mold of us to get, a fully new transformation and one we rarely see, where the axis of the transformer switches and turns 180. A Takara designer once said that when giving the option, they try to incorporate a rotation since those steps always make it feel more dynamic. And Triggerhappy has one of the biggest rotation steps I have ever seen in a TF toy, making it feel very dynamic. The only thing comparable in the line would be Kup's leg transformation.

I hope this answers your question :)

Yeah, I was just curious why he was loved so much. I like the figure as well, but like I said, I was surprised by his popularity. I honestly didn't think about his transformation being so innovative. As for Quake, he's the opposite, as you said. He just looks good (IMO) and has nothing new going for him, really. Is Misfire or Slugslinger a redeco of Triggerhappy?

Both of them are based on Triggerhappy, but everything from the upper legs minus a few minor parts up is new. They're Highbrow and Windblade to Scourge, or Chromedome to Blurr.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

They only share his legs. The transformation is thus not as innovative with Misfire since there is 0 rotation. Its a lot more like the Windblade which can be transformed in 5 steps.

I still kick myself in the ass for leaving Quake and Krok on the pegs that one time I saw them. Memories of seeing Energon Ultra Magnus that one time.I'm such an idiot.

I left them on the shelves and haven't thought twice. They're not hard to find here (figures, while things I actually want won't show up in a million waves :HEADHURTS:) but I don't have any nostalgia for them and without nostalgia my likelihood in wanting a redeco plummets. The redeco I want/can't find is Twin Twist. 30+ years of nostalgia there even with having Top Spin already.

I also have an Energon Ultra Magnus. I didn't even know it was hard to find at the time. Just happened to be in Target and they had a shelf full. My how times change...

I think they're more extensive remolds. The actual redeco is Metalhawk, straight recolor on the body and guns, but a new headmaster so technically a remold. Looks good, IMO, but feels a little cheaper.

Triggerhappy looks really awesome. He's also blue which is my favorite color. His robot form is really good and his alt form is like one of the best alt forms currently on the shelf. His design kind of reminds me of something out of Gundam as well, which I also really enjoy. That's my reasoning.

Triggerhappy is just a really fun figure. His jet mode is infinitely swooshable and his robot mode is just a cool Decepticon grunt. And that transformation is inspired- really fun to do and the perfect balance of ingenuity and simplicity. His weapons are kinda gimpy but really you don't need those guns when you can flip away his hands, swing the jet guns forward and make him into CannonHands McGee. I dunno, I love this guy and whilst I do want Misfire and Slugslinger I'll probably be happy with just him.

As for Quake, I own Hardhead and whilst Quake looks like a really nice deco, if I get him I will be replacing his weapons to differentiate him from his green moldmate. Still, Hardhead is a great mold so Quake should be good too, especially in those rocking colours. If I had to pick one I'd probably stick with Hardhead just because my collection is heavily Decepticon biased at the moment, but Quake looks super nifty.
