I say this message lives on to now.
I am NEVER letting go of my Transformers liking... ever (maybe sometime during adultship... I don't know when).
I don't care who makes fun of me, I'll keep on trucking with my Transformers liking.
THANK GOD TRANSFORMERS STILL LIVES ON!
Oh, & I'm new, but not new to Transformers.

I open my sh*t in public just to advertise that I buy them for me. F**k anyone who thinks I'm weird. They're weird for not buying them.

I think this must be an American thing.
In the UK, we dont get rude checkout operators insulting us for our perchases. First tiem I was in a TrU after the move stuff started coming out, an emplyee there ran up to the voice changer and shouted 'OMG Optimus Prime!' (with a disturbing amount of glee).
Everywhere I go here, I run across people who go, OMG, you collect transformers, those things are great, I used to love them as a kid! I havne met ANYBODY (male of female) whao wants to do anything other than transform my tfs when they find out I collect them.
As I said, this rudness must be an American thing.

One of the checkout operators at my local TRU recognised me from a previous visit and she said "back for more?" when I got my last lot.
I am not surprised that people may take the mick out of collectors. Not everyone is into the same stuff.
When I was last in New York TRU I bought shed loads of stuff. The staff were as nice as anything to me. I dont think that rudeness is an American thing, is anything the staff in a lot our UK stores are rude. I get sick of them chatting to each other and then only gracing us with their attention once their conversation is over.
Having said that, I did go into an Irish pub in New York and decided that I fancied Fish and Chips and the waitress said "Being adventurous eh?". Could have been a joke but it pissed me off a bit, I WANTED FISH AND CHIPS what concern was it of hers?

Colecting transformers is not and i repeat not a wierd thing...and as for rude cashiers to hell with them ive never run into a problem with anybody at a toy store in fact most of them start a conversation over my purchase in an interested and friendly friendly tone. But still that doenst mean that others havent met with trouble.

If collecting Transformers is wierd, then i'm proud of it. I'd rather be wierd than normal. Who want's to be normal anyway, normal is so boring!

if your encounter a rude cashier, just ask them what they collect. ceramic Pigs? What can they do? Shoes Purses? F*ck 'em Tell them to mind their own business. I personally have never run into a rude cashier at TRU. They are usually just as excited as me about Transformers. of course I live in California so every one is weird.

Before you do anything else, define normal for me.
Because, let's be honest, nothing on this damn mud ball of ours is normal.
And obviously tfs rock your socks.

This is my first official post on this website. First time poster, long time reader you could say. Anyway I figured that this thread would be the best one to post on first considering its topic. I just want to say that I am all too familiar with hiding in toy isles and pretending like I’m shopping for a nephew or younger brother. The truth is I could care less what perfect strangers think, I just felt embarrassed at the prospect of running into someone that I know (not friends, more like colleagues, co workers, teachers, etc) and having to explain why I’m looking at toys. But after reading these posts from other professional twenty and thirty year olds, I don’t care. I’m happy I collect transformers and ill continue to buy them. I’m sure my collection isn’t nearly as big as most of the people on this board, as I only buy the ones I wanted as a child (nostalgia factor I guess) and Ill continue with the masterpiece collection because they are AWESOME. But yea, kudos to us because sooner then later its going to be our generation running the world. Who knows maybe one day we will see the president or the prime minister with little autobot pins on his suit collar. (not likely)

It has always amazed me that if you collect stamps, coins, books, hats or shoes it is perfectly acceptable.
If you collect toys or comics of any kind (even the vintage ones made pre WW2) you're weird and it's not acceptable.
Its all crap.
My friends all teased me about collecting DBZ figures, the Transformers, but now whenever they come over, they are always playing with them. You may get funny looks from people, and mocked by checkout chicks, but who cares? Im doing something I enjoy, that does not hurt anyone, and is not illegal.

Of course adults are buying them ... maybe because those adults were children when the brand first came out, duh.
Geesh, you really have to wonder about some people.
I can't see where my continuing to enjoy and collect Transformers is any different from the 60 year old grandmas who collect their Barbies.

It seems weird to me to think that there are people who are embarrassed/ashamed/whatever when they go into a store to buy Transformers. We, as adults, are part of a new generation who grew up on commercially licensed toys. What kind of toys did the baby-boomers have? They didn't have video games, cartoons, comic books, clothes and school accessories to accompany their toys. We were culturally submersed in commercially licensed products ... buying toys as adults, "collecting" toys as adults, is a completely normal part of our lives. It's no different than buying the hottest video game in my opinion. It's just what we do.
Next time you go to a store to buy a Transformer and they ask you if you want a gift receipt, make sure you look the person at the cash register right in the eyes when you smile and say "No thank you ... these are for me!"

I've been collecting them for 20 years. My only regret is that I didn't start from the beginning. Hoistimus is right . It's not just a hobby , it's a way of life. I always hear nonsense such as "When are you going to grow up" , or "you're crazy because you collect toys". Well , I'm still collecting them, and if I'm still around 100 years from now, I'll still be doing it. Incidentally, I'm 49, and I couldn't care less what people think is normal. Just because they let other people dictate their priorities to them , it doesn't mean you have to do as they do. Incidentally, I just saw the movie last night, and it was fantastic. As I always say, "Life is good, but Transformers are better."

I just had to say one more thing. If collecting Transformers is weird, then thank God for weirdness. It's sure better than being what is considered normal [in other words , to be normal, you have to be a sheep]. My advice is: Don't be livestock. Collect Transformers , tell people you collect Transformers, stand tall , and be proud you're a Transformers fan. That's what I do. Till all are one.

I'm 32 and have been collecting for 23 years. I'm a 3rd grade teacher and I have two children. My students love the fact that I collect. Some parents think it's "cute" but I could really care less. The only one that I have to worry about making happy considering my collection is my wife...lol

I don't know, I think some people grow a stick up thier butt at the end of puberty.
Keep in mind however these are the same people that need to run to therapy to hear that they need to nurture their inner child when they can't figure out why they're depressed all the time in their perfect world!
I'd rather know that I'm a resposible adult, and spoil the Little Evilmus inside me cause I can tell you, when I was a kid, my parents had more important things to buy than toys and I love them for it.
They always told me tough when I have my own money I could do what I want with it, and sure enough I am.
But again, busness is taken care of, and I have to tell ya, although I'm somewhat looked down on by the people around me for my hobbies and habits. Come times of crisis, or cander, I am far more well adjusted than those around me that are more worried about being "adult" than being themselves.
KEEP NURTING THOSE INNER CHILDREN!

My retailers know me well!
When the movie toys finaly hit, the check out girl at Target couldn't stop laughing at me and my cart full of stuff and I basicly told her what I wrote in my reply to Elita-One and she shut up, picked up a Cabbage Patch Kid on an end cap and told me she was gonna get it.
There's something liberating in acknowledging you want something. It just struck me as odd that she was so serious about it in all her BLING and designer cloths.
Priorities I guess

Your statement led me to a two-fer so sorry for the double post.
I'm 3rd generation American with a German/Italian heritage. I was also brought up for some years in 3 Korean housholds(altough I can hardly speak a word of that langauge, hand signals are golden), and this just made me very eclectic in my tastes.
As an American Caucasian, I can tell you that there are very strong stereotypes for ALL races in this country, especialy when reguarding cuisine.
When I walk into a Korean Deli, I get the same strange looks, and always shock the staff when I ask for specific item, Kimpshe, an acuired taste, but well worth the suffering once your guts resolidify.
So anyhow, I just moved to a mostly Scotish/Irish Neighborhood that ironicly has Satrianie's from the Sopranos on the corner from me.
***they are revamping this location into a resturant called "THE SOPRANO" I give it six monhs before it goes back to being a legitamite butcher shop***
Well anyhow, on pretty much corner I have a Fish and Chips stop. So before I try it, I'd like to ask what exactly is it, and what's with the news paper, isn't ink bad for you?
PLease understand, I'm not being sarcastic, I just wanna heads up on what I'm getting into.
As for your experience, well my friend, although a few of us are outgoing when it comes to food, most Americans stick to stapels like burgers, wings, and salads for the weak.
Don't look down on that waitress for being shocked by something plainly unusual, thats just the way it is most of the time here.
