"Atlantis, Arise!" first aired October 3, 1985 and "City of Steel" first aired on October 17, 1985.

Altho "City of Steel" was produced before "Atlantis, Arise!" the shows aired out of production sequence.

Buzzsaw made his first appearance in the episode "Atlantis, Arise!"

I thought you might be referring to "Scramble city" but.......the reason I didnt use it as the answer is because I dont think its really the right answer for these reasons.

1] Scramble City never aired in Japan ether.It was a "Direct to Video" tape.

2] I cant find any proof as to when it was released to the public.

All I can find states it was produced and released in April of 86 but I find it very hard to believe that the production of the episode [animation & voice acting] the mass production of the product [video tapes] and mass distribution of the merchandise to retail stores could have all be completed in 30 days.

3]I cant find any indication that it was originally intended to be part of the Japanese cartoon cannon.According to the original script they offer up alternate explanation's for the creation of the combiner TF's as well as their capabilities.

4] I cant find any proof that it was not just orriginally intended to be a extended toy add.

Contrary to popular belief "Scramble City" was not originally intended to be a "Bridge" between seasons 2 and the post movie season 3.

The only post movie character to be introduced into the OVA was Ultra Magnus and Spike was comparatively about the same age he was in season 2.

There's good reason to think that Scramble was more like the Mini Comics that Hasbro sometimes puts out with its TF's....meaning it had no bearing on the cartoons cannon.

And also if you do want to include "Scramble City" into the first apperance catagory then you have to also include the tv adds for the 86 movie.

One of those adds showed a brief shot of the cassets fighting and those tv adds started airing in March of 86.

There's isint really an answer to that one.

At least 5 were seen in the 86 movie and in the episode "Call of the Primitives" the dialog suggest that there was at least 7 of them.

Actually the answer I was looking for was Soundwave, Spike is not Transformer and that is what I specified.He only had a one physical Change which was his color from Blue to Black and His name was changed only in half from Soundwave to Soundblaster but he pretty much looked and behaved exactly the same as Original Soundwave. He was I think the only Transformer who was carried all the way through the entire series from America to Japan. And Takara's Headmasters has been considered to be the last installment of the TF series that was originally created in America meaning that it withheld all the character story-lines carried through to the next unitll its end. Then came Super-God Master Force which the head writer Masumi Kaneda wanted a "fresh start," introducing an entirely new cast of characters from scratch, rather than using any of the previous ones.

I guess you mean "in Japan" again.fact is even if there are people that would like to consider it the "last installment of the TF series that was originally created in America" it really cant for1 major reason.

1] Headmasters omits the "Rebirth" from its continuity.

Headmasters branched off after "The Return of Optimus Prime" so its not really the last instalment of the G1 toon start in the U.S.

Then came Super-God Master Force which the head writer Masumi Kaneda wanted a "fresh start," introducing an entirely new cast of characters from scratch, rather than using any of the previous ones.

But it was later included into the same continuity as their G1 and Headmasters serries.

But it was done pretty shabby.
