Unfortunately, each set has some winners and some losers, and many of them are great in one mode but not the other.

Dinobots - All of them are great in beast mode, but Terrorsaur has a horrible robot mode.

Predators - Divebomb is great in both modes (and can be used as a shield by larger bots), followed by Snarl, the tiger is horrible in either mode though, especially robot mode.

Demolition - All great in altmode, the dumptruck is the only one with a worth while robot mode though. The backhoe and tank have better powerlinx points though.

Rescue - The police car sucks all around, the helicopter is awesome in vehicle mode and can be turned into a weapon that looks great on CD Hotshot, and the firetruck is spectacular in robot mode.

Dirt Diggers - All around great except the motorcycle, which has a terrible robot mode.

Clear skies - All great in alt-modes, but the A-10 easily out shines the others with looks, creativity, and articulation.

The way I see it, each set has one of each of the following: an awesome figure, an okay figure, and a weird (but sometimes oddly likeable) figure. Observe:

Dinibot team:
Awesome : Knockdown (triceratops)
Okay : Terrorsaur (t-rex)
Weird : Swoop (pterodactyl)

Night Rescue Team:
Awesome : Firebot (fire truck)
Okay : Strong Arm (police car)
Weird: Divebomb (helicopter)

Destruction team:
Awesome: Broadside (tank)
Okay: Wideload (dump truck)
Weird: Sledge (front loader)

Dirt Digger team:
Awesome: Oil Slick (low-rider)
Okay: Dirt Rocket (motorbike)
Weird: Grindor (monster truck)

Clear Skies Team:
Awesome: Nightscream (dragon)
Okay: Thunderwing (blue stunt plane)
Weird: Steel Wind (grey jet)

Predator Attack Team:
Awesome: Dreadwing (eagle)
Okay: Overbite (wolf)
Weird: Snarl (tiger)

But If I was to pick a favourite set, I'd say go with the Dinobots - they're all really cool, and they get bonus cool-points for being the first set of beast minicons. Knockdown is my all-time favourite minicon, all around great set!

Snarl is the tiger, and I actually like him a lot better than Overbite, the wolf. Overbite won't stand up in robot mode very well...

And Skowl, you like Broadside? As far as I'm concerned, he's the weakest out of all eighteen classics mini-cons... He just doesn't look right and he will not stand up no matter what you do.

Yeah, I think Broadside is cool. And I also like Snarl, the tiger, alot too, but don't know why... he's just kinda cute in his own way, I think he's adorable.

*Smacks Cujo upside the head.*

Snarl has a feline alt-mode and is just the right size for Megatron, or Starscrem, or pretty much any Decepticon to stroke while plotting a la a Bond vilain. In this, he's downright precious. Plus, his beast mode looks like one of those little jade tiger carvings. Hence, he wins.

Have you ever seen a puppy that's soooo ugly, he's actually kinda cute?

That's how I feel about Snarl. Since everyone else hates him, it makes me like him even more.

So you're implying that ISN'T why you like Broadside?

Anyhow, I just realized I haven't made a recommendation... I'd say Dinobots, Clear Skies, or Dirt Digger, in order of preference... Predator attack comes in fourthh, then Night Rescue, with Demolition a dead last.

Well, I'll at least concede that he's quirky and doesn't get a lot of respect. I was just glad beast minicons finally surfaced...

I guess I like Broadside for the same reasons... he's just too weird for me not to like.

What can I say, I love the quirky TFs...

Gah, how can you not like Sky Garry?? He's one one my grails. Such a beautiful brick.

On topic, I recommend the Rescue Team, Dinobots, and any wave 2 set. They are all worth owning in one way or another.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.
