What transformer is the biggest waste of plastic?

Postby shortround » Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:38 pm

Here are my rules for what qualifys:

1. If you found it in a dumpster in mint condition in the back of wal-mart, toys r us, target or even fred meyers you wouldn't take it home.

2. If your friend gave this figure to you. You would then tell him were he could stick this figure.

Those are my rules go ahead and let me and world or at least the forum what figure you think makes the cut.

Any Pretender.

Maybe Twin Twist. I remember having him as a kid and hating how utterly useless he was. The roll back and flip got real old real quick.

Zero articulation, poor detail, lame extra gimmicks.

Maybe Thrust was good, and some of the minicons, but that's about it.

I know there were bad ones like Hot Shot and Prime, and horrible ones like Sideswipe, but many of figures of the Armada line were great, including Tidal Wave, who happens to usually go over $70 on Ebay if it's MISB. Unicron was awesomesauce, and Wheeljack was a great Deluxe. So saying all the armada figures are a complete waste of plastic is a little bit of an overstatement, IMO.

The one I had in my possession couldn't stand on it's own two feet. And what was with all of those combiner vehicles that came with it?

The Armada version of Unicron was completely ugly. The Energon repaint, the one I bought, was much better.

Also, Wheeljack was a gross misuse of his name for a mediocre figure, and Tidle Wave really didn't look like anything in either mode.

Of course, this is all just IMO.

I'm find the Energon Unicron to be hideous, he's like a rave kiddie. Armadacron has a deco that looks more like the original which I like.

Not a fan of the name used but the A-Wheeljack is a decent one. Looks cool, and has about as much if not more articulation then 90% of G1.

And Tidal Wave is probably my favorite figure of the last six years. Again the Armada coloring over the Energon. Really don't understand what the appeal of dark colors with day glo green lighting decos is.

Unicron had horrible paint application and a dull color scheme in general. The hideous translucent gray plastic looked bad against the cheese orange. Energon Unicron, on the other hand, had lovely paint apps, even though neon green against black is old by now. The translucent plastic was more eye catching. An overall nicer looking figure.

Regarding Wheeljack, you're speaking of it like being as articulated as a G1 figure is a good thing.

Tidal Wave's alt. mode(s) don't look like anything. Not much of a disguise... a purple and neon green group of floaty things vaguely resembling boats. As articulated as a brick, as all combiner's tend to be, but each individual piece doesn't even have a robot mode, so there's no trade-off.

Energon Megatron... didn't see the point after they did the Galvatron repaint.

And don't fool yourself into thinking they didn't have the repaint in mind already when they made E. Megatron. 8)

Armada Sideswipe

The car mode is OK but the robot mode is...seriously lacking. I have no idea why they decided to use the same mold again (Universe and Cybertron) when there are so much better toys out there.

I've often wondered the same thing. I bought Cyb Runamuck without doing research (checking Seibs galleries or TFU.info) b/c the alt mode looked like a Fox-Body Mustang (late 80's style). Too bad the bot mode is so awful. It's really a shame....
